Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
That Australian pass looked to be offside to me... at least by the standard they've set so far in this tournament. Either way, the Brazilian keeper should have held that shot and she can blame no one but herself for Australia's goal.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Deserved victory for Australia overall, far more organized and structured than Brazil. Can't help but feel though that Australia don't have the requisite quality to get past the true favorites for the tournament such as Germany or France.

Not sure I've ever seen a side as comfortable and unchallenged in a WC knock-out round match as France looks against S. Korea.

I guess there will be more goals still. Neither defense looks really stable...

Honestly thought Switzerland were the better side up until the goal.

Hm. I'm not impressed by Gaelle Thalmann st the moment. The Swiss goalie makes too many mistakes.
The Canadian goalie Erin MacLeod on the other hand was really good so far and frustrated the Swiss big time.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
England vs Norway kicking off soon.
Mark Sampson making lots of changes again; three changes in the backline seems especially risky. Not an awful lot of creativity in midfield as well, so big onus on Caren Carney, Fran Kirby and Toni Duggan to make the difference.

Congrats to England on their first ever knock-out round victory. Good value for that win.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Awful first half from England. Far too negative, couldn't keep the ball at all, left Duggan isolated up front. Much better in the second half with Scott on and being more positive in closing Norway down. I thought the Norway keeper should have done better for Bronze's goal, despite the power in the shot.
England vs Canada in the quarter-finals, then. Can't say I'm particularly confident. Sampson needs to stop picking such reactive teams and really try and go for it.

Corrected for you.
Someone needs to get Alexi Lalas one of those anti-barking dog collars and give him a slight shock every time he starts saying something stupid.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Colombia doing a very good job of frustrating the US but they're getting a massive amount of help from a whistle-happy referee who's calling it just about every time a Colombian player falls (theatrically) to the pitch. For all their talk of having heart and such, Colombia look very eager to practice any and every type of gamesmanship they can here, whether its diving, time-wasting, or whatnot.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Ouch. Not clever by the Columbian goalie Catalina Perez who got sent off now -_-'
o_O Abby Wambach misses the pen real bad!
53.) And Alex Morgan scores the 1:0 against 10-women Columbia.
66.) 2:0 - Carli Lloyd (another PK)

PK miss aside, Wambach would've had a different game had she scored that chances she had in the first half.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Well, doesn't look like the USWNT will squander this lead. Columbia with one woman down obviously can't turn this match anymore.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
It's a real shame that Colombia expend so much effort being incredibly unlikable on and off the pitch with their diving, fouling, talking, etc because they really do have some talent in that side and could be a fun team to watch otherwise.
The US definitely need to re-examine their attacking approach and possibly formation as well though. The traditional 4-4-2 simply isn't working well. Would like to perhaps see a 4-3-3.
