Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
It's a real shame that Colombia expend so much effort being incredibly unlikable on and off the pitch with their diving, fouling, talking, etc because they really do have some talent in that side and could be a fun team to watch otherwise.
The US definitely need to re-examine their attacking approach and possibly formation as well though. The traditional 4-4-2 simply isn't working well. Would like to perhaps see a 4-3-3.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Its unfortunate that the two best sides in the tournament are meeting in the quarterfinals, tbh.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
I guess FIFA wanted to set up a final USA vs Canada somehow and did their best to give Canada a manageable path to the final, while the USWNT always can beat any team if they play to their usual capabilities.

Brazil would of been a tough opponent for Canada and Japan will be if they have to face them as well.
Hardly a cake walk on this side of the bracket...Brazil essentially upset by Australia just made it a bit easier.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
while Brazil are strong and I think they will beat Canada, it's pretty clear USA and Germany are the two heavyweights. It's a shame we won't get to see that in the final.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Not sure how Brazil are going to beat Canada when they're out of the tournament already.
And while the US is a traditional powerhouse (who have never finished lower than 3rd in a World Cup) they haven't looked particularly good in this competition outside of defense. Longstanding records aside, China, Canada, Japan, and others look capable of beating the US at the moment on the turf. The winner of France-Germany will be the strong (and rightful) favorite to win it.

If I had to guess right now, I'd have:
1. Germany
2. Canada
3. USA
4. Japan
1. Germany
2. Canada
3. USA
4. Japan

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
China are ridiculously good defensively. Our defense will likely hold against them, but our attack is really going to struggle to break them down if we keep playing the way we have. Can see that one going to ET.

Not having Rapinoe next game is a disaster. Hope we can move on but the offense without her is worrisome

@B-Mac:
I wrote "manageable", not easy ^^
(And I think Canada would have been less amused to be in Germany's slot with Sweden, France and the USWNT ahead XD)
@Not-James:
Well, it is possible to have Germany vs US in the semi at least. Unless we will see China vs France, of course ^^

People are underrating France I think. They've been one of the better teams to watch and are very dangerous on the counter.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
I don't think people are underrating France. The problem is that France will go against Germany and that is the current Clash of the Titans in the World Cup, which only one of the two sides can survive, and some people just go for the FIFA ranking there.

Not sure who you think is underrating France. Most everyone recognizes them as co-favourites or second favourites behind Germany to win the whole thing... even AFTER their shock upset against Colombia.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Feel for the Dutch there. Missed two great chances already and down 1-0 in the first 10 minutes. If they score their first opportunity, or even get a corner out of it, Japan almost certainly don't get their own scoring chance to take the lead.

They look susceptible at the back though. A better side wouldn't have wasted the chances that the Netherlands did (and other sides Japan have already played did).

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Why is Leroux benched for USA now?
All the resources Canada put towards turning her into a decent player and she is living it up on the bench come knockout time. Shameful.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Because she's not currently better or more influential than Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach. This will be Abby's last major tournament though and Leroux will become a starter in her place... possibly even sooner as Wambach may require rest/rotation in the latter stages of this World Cup, should the US manage to get that far.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Germany vs France is about to begin!
Germany: Angerer (c) - Maier, Krahn, Peter, Kemme - Goeßling, Leupolz - Laudehr, Mittag, Popp - Sasic
France: Bouhaddi - Houara-d'Hommeaux, Georges, Renard (c), Majri - Thomis, Henry, Abily, Necib - Delie, Le Sommer
And France started with an impressive attack, but Louisa Necib missed.
France are currently looking better and more dangerous, but fortunately we have Nadine Angerer ^^
64.) 0:1 - Louisa Necib
84.) 1:1 - Celia Sasic (Hand-PK)
Extra time! Germany already used up all three subs, while France still have 2 subs left.
Still 1:1 after 120 minutes - so it's penalty time!
After the first 9 penalties went in without fail, Nadine Angerer saved the 10th and thus last penalty for the win!
FT - France vs Germany 1:1 (1:1) 4:5 PSO
Germany are through to the semi final! Even though France were better for most of the match, Germany managed to prevail and went through!

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Well that was a rather poor shot.
Not sure why some pundits (Lalas) are talking as though this will be a breeze for the US. China should be a real test for the current US team.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
France were the far better team. That tap in that one of the French girls put to the left of post was the killer. But by way, there was a German girl that could have Schweinsteiger's twin and a French girl that looked like Cavani's african sister.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
US need to score with this pressure now. China look very disorganized defensively but it won't last, and the US need to make it count while they have the opportunity.
