Outside the box they said here. No matter, the decision stands.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Replay suggests that was outside the box. Lucky, lucky call for the US (make-up call, perhaps?).

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Thats Copa America level bad in terms of officiating.
USA deserves this lead though. German women just don't have the passion to win.

Well, ref mistakes happen. This means now our girls need to score, then it won't matter ^^

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Just been watching for the last ten minutes during the halftime of the other game, three awful refereeing mistakes so far:
1. Julie Johnston should have been sent off, unquestionably.
2. The penalty for US was, again unquestionably, outside the box.
3. Even if it was inside the box, the only infringement I could see there was possibly obstruction, but that's an offence punishable by an indirect freekick, not a direct one (in this case a penalty).
For these injustices alone, I hope Germany comes back. They seem to be the better team in any case.

You didn't watch the first half. There the US gals played our girls off the pitch and only Nadine Angerer kept us in the game.

Okay, that was it - so it's the US in the final. Congrats!

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
YES! See it out now!
Looks like the extra time against France took its toll on Germany. They were chasing shadows in the first half and despite coming out and controlling a good portion of the second half are fading again after the US's opening goal.

Can see a solid amount of added time with the two penalties and all. If Germany can score soon they're still in this...

That Johnston gaff aside this has been a GOAT defensive performance.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
I don't think we will be able to come back. The missed penalty was the first blow that sapped a lot of energy, and of course the extratime against France, too. I'm pretty sure Celia Sasic will be inconsolable.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
This entire tournament for the US has been built on a frankly brilliant defense. Our midfield and attack have both been lackluster up until this match (attack still arguably below the players' level) but the defense has made up for it by being a rock.Betty La Fea wrote:That Johnston gaff aside this has been a GOAT defensive performance.
On to the final now. Let's get Wambach that final trophy she's missing!

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Kudos to Germany on a good match and tournament up to this match. I think they were arguably the best team in the tournament but ran into the US at a bad time due to their own fatigue and injuries and the US's form picking up.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Well, it was a pity that the draw of the World Cup was so imbalanced that practically the best teams (bar Japan) were on one side of the draw. I'd say we'll meet again next year in Brazil

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
US deserve to go through regardless of refereeing mistakes but...jeez those were bad.
Why don't men get to do any of the games in the world cup? I don't mind women doing the games, but to be completely honest, the refereeing in every game just isn't at the level it needs to be at. This is something that I've noticed over the last two women's world cups, and 2012 olympics.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Well, did you see the refereeing done by men in World Cup, Champions League, Leagues etc? That wasn't much better either. For some reason refereeing in general looks worse and worse nowadays. We really need video proof etc as the game got faster and the refs can't really keep up.

Annike Krahn in the interview: "Yeah, the penaltiy decision was a referee mistake, but that doesn't matter - I fouled her and shouldn't have done that."

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Couple of interesting twitter responses to the game (all meant in good humor, of course):
Well, perhaps not ALL meant entirely in good humor:
Ken Jennings @KenJennings 20m
Hope Japan beats England. I like our odds when the U.S. beats Germany and then moves on to Japan.
Laura Glass @LGBCGolf19
Did you just say Sasic missed it or sausage biscuit? #FWWC2015 #USAGER @ussoccer @ussoccer_wnt @JulieFoudy @AlexiLalas
Well, perhaps not ALL meant entirely in good humor:
Landon Donovan Verified account
@landondonovan
Love the enthusiasm and veteran presence of @AbbyWambach despite not playing much. That kind of leadership is priceless during a WC
