Re: Carlo's quest to restore balance
Rumors that Bale in the midfield or a CB in the midfield a hurts my soul too
I can only imagine what it would do to Illara. Coach has zero faith in him.
And I'm all for giving him another shot. It's not that he's bad but he's really gotta step up his game.

Re: Carlo's quest to restore balance
Illarra will get his chance when Carlo is eventually kicked out.
If we lose to Atleti this weekend I'm pretty sure the Anti-Carlo campaign against him will start in the press. His extremely weird starting XI's (Varane in midfield ) will come into question if the team messes up.
I seriously don't see what Carlo is bringing to the table tactically that we can't get from any competent La Liga coach. So far the only thing he's done perfectly has been his great man management, but that stuff can only keep you in the job for so long.

Re: Carlo's quest to restore balance
Carlo is one of those old coaches that trust the old more experienced players over the young and talented. Tbh with the pressure that comes with the job he doesn't get a chance to anyways. Soon when he wins us the league he will be more open to the idea of playing the inexperienced more "fitting" players. Also he doesn't exactly have a choice when we have so many overpriced players to fit in at the expense of the teams balance. Carlo is a great coach who has solved ALOT of our problems on and off the pitch and I am sure this season he will solve even more problems. We used to have coaches who refused to do this because they were too scared to

Di Maria vs QPR
We need those vertical passes back so baaaad. they suit our wingers just perfectly, without it the system is broken (aka 2 and a half forwards instead of wingers and a ST)

Di Maria isn't going to help stop us concede set pieces you drama queens.
Having said that Di Maria is going to beast the EPL pretty easily.

our problem so far has been more than just set pieces...no backbone or intensity in the middle of the park. no creativity going forward whether counter or build up.....the fact that we've shelled over a hundred and twenty million euros on midfield "reinforcements", makes one scratch his head at the lack of creativity and fluid ball movement

Re: Carlo's quest to restore balance
We looked exactly like that even when Di Maria was still here though. This is not a new problem it's just been aggravated by not replacing Alonso correctly.
This is how we should line up imo;
---------Ronaldo--------Bale------------
-----------------James------------------
--------Kroos------------Modric--------
----------------Illarra--------------------
Marcelo---Ramos----Varane----Carvajal
------------------Navas-------------------
Ronaldo and Bale would have free roles in this formation with James pulling the strings behind them. The midfield three would provide the much sought after "balance" that Carlo apparently craves.
I would actually start Pepe but Ramos is the captain and they aren't that far from each other anyway.
Varane and Illarra need minutes desperately and imo this team could use them.

Re: Carlo's quest to restore balance
the midfield trio in that line up looks good....if i'm not mistaken cron and bale are placed as forwards, but cristiano doesn't like playing as a center forward, he prefers to cut in and make runs from the wings rather than hold the ball up....not sure on bale as a forward either, he could do that at spurs because he had a free role...positional awareness is key with that style of play and will take even longer getting used too....and also what happens to benzema? who apparently carlo is a fan of...does he become the next victim of the marketing machine?

Re: Carlo's quest to restore balance
Yall still focusing on integrating a DM into the system
While I agree having a DM is going to be neccesarry for us, it won't matter before the big games.
We have proven before that simply outscoring your opponents works as good as any tactic in La Liga. Mourinho won by conceding 100 but scored 300 more. What we need is someone who can deliver these delicous, vertical passes. We dont have that anymore. None to give us assists. Hence why Carlo is opting for a Kroos-Modric-James midfield atm
