Re: Danny Welbeck - Gunner Galactico
All this chatter. Of course some one else will get injured if and when Giroud is back. Relax guys

i dont want Giroud slowing down the game.. Welbeck has done an equally good job especially on the physical holdup part.. and he also has pace to drift to the wings or surge forward.. and Giroud is hardly a better finisher..
I disagree, I don't think Welbeck's hold up play is that good.

Re: Danny Welbeck - Gunner Galactico
I'm glad to at least have options now. Gives us more versatility to have Giroud's aerial presence and holdup play and Welbeck's quick runs to pick out.
And, as Sina said, they can play together as well. 4-4-2 made us so much more direct last season when trying to break down stubborn opposition. Sanogo, for his lack of goals and bambi-esque dribbling, still brought a ton of physical presence. Welbeck can do that now and bring speed and a degree of finishing ability to that two man partnership that 4-4-2 demands up front.

Re: Danny Welbeck - Gunner Galactico
Agree, mixing it up is a good option to have.
But I do think we need a "no. 1" someone that gets the nod from the start of the games, and I also think Wenger is someone who likes that logic of having a player who is set to start upfront game to game.

Eman wrote:Giroud scores goals consistently though. Welbeck is better when he's not playing well compared to Giroud not playing well, but Giroud can play like garbage and still end up with a goal. Welbeck will overtake him in the pecking order eventually but right now I'm on team Giroud, especially if he has pace on either side of him to makeup for his lack of speed.
Consistency!
He only scored in 13 of 36 EPL games with the majority not against anyone that finished in the top half of the table. Not sure his 8 assists really change much either. As a striker at Arsenal that is the kind of consistency and ambition that is making us more and more of a mid table team.
It is good to have options and all and I am glad he is coming back. Just damn, that is as good as it can get for us these days. Giroud would not make the bench at most clubs.

Re: Danny Welbeck - Gunner Galactico
I am happy that Hold-up play is back but there is no way he should be starting over for us. Welbeck has scored 5 goals in the league and cup games. He is fast, dribbles well and tracks back also. His overall contribution has been positive so far.
We still need a WC striker. If it was up to me, I would start Giroud as CB, I believe he could solve our problem for now.

All this talk about him being better than Giroud is laughable really, Wellbeck's composure in the final third is piss poor

Welbeck disappointed me, all them chances we created today and he din't even manage to stick one in the back of the net. Until he scores a hattrick again, Giroud > Wellbeck

Welbeck is barely even a striker. He has no real appetite for goals.

That's what I've always been saying... Giroud is still our best not so best striker, if you know what I mean.

Re: Danny Welbeck - Gunner Galactico
Love this guy, pace, trickery, dribbling, incredible technique on the ball. Great goalscoring record when played in his best position.
Big season ahead of him. For god's sake Arsene, please don't stick him on the wing, play him in his best position in front of Alexis/Özil/Ramsey/Cazorla and watch him flourish. We've tried the big man and it hasn't worked out in any way. It's time for Welbeck and Walcott to get the same kind of trust.

Re: Danny Welbeck - Gunner Galactico
If only he were more clinical. Being out of position isn't an excuse; it doesn't prevent Alexis or Walcott from scoring regularly.
Still, it's worth trying again.

It isn't necessarily an excuse. Some players cope well with getting into scoring positions from out wide, it seems like Welbeck isn't one of them but stats show he's a capable goal scorer when played through the middle.

He scores plenty for England from out wide though.

Re: Danny Welbeck - Gunner Galactico
I'm not against giving Welbeck a run of games up front. He definitely has attributes of a striker which we need.
But the thing is he will then need to score. And our problem atm is scoring. So it may not be that wise to throw in someone who's is popular for not being that clinical in front of goal. Giroud's inabilities aside, he does score goals.

Danny Welbeck undergoes knee surgery
Danny Welbeck has undergone surgery on his left knee after being unable to sufficiently step up his rehabilitation work.
The striker has been working throughout the summer to recover from the injury sustained at the end of April.
It had been hoped he would avoid surgery but after increasing his training workload, the injury to his cartilage did not respond as well as hoped and the decision was taken last week for him to undergo surgery by a leading specialist in the field.
Danny is now expected to be out for a period of months and everyone at Arsenal wishes him well.
