Neither of the penalties were penalties and in any case the only reason the ref gave the first one was he succumbed to the pressure of the Juve players to change his mind.

Which is a bigger issue than whether it's a penalty or not, the mere fact he wasn't going to give it and did so after the Juve players surrounded him.

That simply cannot be allowed to happen and quite frankly neither can this referee being given big games. He clearly didn't have the bottle for it and lost complete control of the match early and often.

“It’s a huge shame after a good performance,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia.

“We came to Turin to play our game, but you saw what happened and that affected the match.

“For years the same old incidents keep happening. I don’t know if we were beaten by referees, but we certainly were not beaten by Juventus tonight.

“Yes, we are angry, but also aware we are a great team and must lift our heads straight away.

“This was a match we really cared about, but Juventus ought to have their own League, as by hook or by crook they always win.

“Are we back to the same doubts? I am not the only one saying this, as these are things everyone in Italy should discuss.

“With Juventus when there is any doubt whatsoever, it’s always a penalty. I have to stop now, as if I keep talking then I’ll get suspended.”

Post by Juveman17 Mon Oct 06, 2014 1:36 am

"Controversial decisions are part of football but when they happen in a Juventus match then the same old cliches are regurgitated. The reality is that Gianluca Rocchi, a referee who has been suspended for some diabolical decisions in the past, should not have taken charge of Serie A's most important match.

This is the official who apologised to Stefano Pioli for the maddening decisions made in the match between Milan and Bologna. The same man who provoked the usually happy Massimo Moratti to say, "I never want to see a referee like Rocchi again," for the heinous decisions made in Inter's loss to Napoli. This was also the man who felt Felipe Melo didn't deserve a red card for his two-footed challenge on Alexis Sanchez in the Champions League midweek fixture.

Of course such farcical refereeing is accepted and criticised for what it is in Serie A, but when the match features Juventus conspiracy theories dominate. In truth, while certain decisions went the Bianconeri's way, there is no denying they too suffered from Rocchi's ineptitude."

Totti has every right to complain. Juve fans have to accept the fact that their club is going to have a bad reputation because of its past cheating until everyone forgets about said cheating - which will be never. So deal with it.

Also, cheating or not (to clarify, I don't think Juve cheated at all), it is well known that referees generally favour the following:
1) home teams
2) big clubs.
Part of what separates a good referee from a bad referee is that the good ones will make the tough decisions even when that will make them unpopular in the eyes of the majority supporters.

How can you be so confident that people will never forget ?

I mean very few still remember or even know that Milan got relegated back in the 80's due to Totonero scandal hmm

Aside from a horrendous display from the ref, Roma v Juve was a great match in which two Italian giants went toe to toe. Each team responded positively after the opponent scored and it made for a really entertaining match. The defeat has left a lingering taste in my mouth but what we showed today was the mentality necessary for winning a Scudetto. Even when we are not at our best we are able to challenge the champions until the final whistle and I'm certain that on the return leg at the Olimpico we will avenge this loss in impressive fashion. Forza Roma!

Actually, no. It was his assistant calling it, but it did look like the players had him change his mind.

So that's a silly statement to make really, it's the last thing a ref would ever do.

Except he did, it's clear as day that the pressure forced him to change his mind.

It's the last thing a ref should do but he did and it shows his incompetence.

I'm already looking to Chievo, Jesp. Thanks brah.

Roma had their say yesterday and if we were gonna lose a match like that, we did it the right way. Can't ask anymore from those players. They did everything they could to win. That game was almost like a microcosm of last season.

Having now seen the goals, I can understand why the first penalty was given, I think the criticism of the referee for that decision is perhaps too harsh, though I do understand Mole's complaint about the reaction of the Juventus players to the initial call. Pjanic's foul seemed to be outside the box though and Vidal was certainly in the line of sight of the keeper for Bonucci's admittedly lovely strike.

Also Lichtsteiner's rugby tackle on Totti in the box. rofl

...............................................................................
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has admitted that Arturo Vidal was in an offside position for the winning goal in Sunday's 3-2 victory over Roma.

After Francesco Totti and Juan Manuel Iturbe had turned an enthralling top-of-the-table Serie A showdown in the visitors' favour, Carlos Tevez slotted home his second penalty of the game before Leonardo Bonucci volleyed home with just four minutes to go.

However, Vidal was standing in front of Roma goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski when the defender struck his shot from the edge of the area and Allegri felt that, while Juve merited all three points, the goal should not have stood.

"The images speak for themselves," he told Sky Sport Italia. "Vidal was in front of the goalkeeper.
"It was a very intense game in which both teams played well. It was a game between two leaders but we worked harder for the win.

"The game tonight proved that we are a great team achieving great results, but Roma are doing just as well.

"The boys handled the game well and deserved the win."
"Clashes are part of the game," the former AC Milan boss mused.

"Rocchi made some big decisions when he had to make them. I think it's pointless to speak about him."
