Who will advance to the quarter-finals?
Re: Last 16: Netherlands (1B) vs Mexico (2A) 29.06.14 18:00
Was a clear penalty, yes he exaggerated the contact but there's a clear trip by Marquez.
Anyway as expected a really close game and again i find myself feeling sorry for the loser
Congrats to Holland and to Mexico who like Chile were tremendous value in this tournament.

Robben dived there but deserved a penalty earlier in the game.
Anyway, I feel bad for Mexico, thought they were the better team throughout the game. Netherlands today, like against Chile, reminded me of why I haven't been too impressed by them- Spain game aside.

No f*cking way. Seriously, that was one of the worst performances in the WC and they still progressed.

It was a soft call, but unfortunately it is also the correct one. He was fouled in the box and thus it is a penalty. Obviously if I were ref that late in a game I wouldn't call for a penalty.
Re: Last 16: Netherlands (1B) vs Mexico (2A) 29.06.14 18:00
Clear penalty. Robben might have exaggerated but he was clipped. And besides he was denied a stonewall penalty on the first half too. Netherlands deservedly go through.

I agree completely.
Most of all I want to say immense credit to Mexico. They were thought to be one of the worst teams at the tournament by many including even you. Considering that they have punched well above their weight. Unfortunately they are continuing their unwanted habit of going out in the second round.
The Dutch can't possibly play that badly. Just what the hell were they doing today?
Re: Last 16: Netherlands (1B) vs Mexico (2A) 29.06.14 18:00
Scumbag Mexican coach can bore off.
He's the idiot responsible for Mexico's exit and then he goes and whines about everyone being against his team. Mexico were dominating until he decided to retreat and play defensively for the last half hour.
Commiserations to all the Mexican fans here. It must be heartbreaking to go out like that.

another day, another robbery.
Hard to feel sorry for Mexico though. First half they were pretty much running the game. For some unknown reason, as soon as they scored, they decided to sit back and defend for the rest of the match.
Why sit back and invite pressure? The Dutch were on the freaking ropes.
Ah well...

Dutch are overrated.. they didnt play badly.. they just play like that. Against Spain they were lucky because spain sucked more that than a hooker, but against other teams they were no were near as good, other sides were better..

The dutch played exactly like they played in the last 3 games, the problem today was that Mexico had 3 CBs to stop their counters which didn't work once.
Their defense was really poor today though, possibly because of De Jong's absence

I have heard this crap too many times at world cups and other tournaments and am totally sick to my skin with it. Any time you are out blame the referee, start a conspiracy theory and completely ignore the many things you did wrong. It's Portugal's favourite line that they have been using for years and Mexico also I have heard use it before. It's great to back the underdog but shame on all those who start this kind of crap.
Re: Last 16: Netherlands (1B) vs Mexico (2A) 29.06.14 18:00
Mexico lost the moment they subbed out GDS. At that point they stopped attacking and just tried to contain the pressure of Robben, Sneijder, et all. You don't park he bus when you're only up 1-0 against the dutch. Van Gaal on the other hand kept twitching the system until he found a solution that worked.

But that Robben theatrical dive was just pathetic.

Van Gaal got lucky that Mexico backed off. His defense is in shambles tbh.

Is there any team worth rating at this world cup? Perhaps not.
Re: Last 16: Netherlands (1B) vs Mexico (2A) 29.06.14 18:00
Mexiko were not robbed. They dominated and were the better team till they scored and probably for another 5-10 minutes. Just because they were better in the first 2/3 of the game doesn't mean they deserve to win the game.
Anyway this defense is horrible and Cillessen...
Seriously I don't even want to think of a game against Argentina and I know they haven't played great so far but still.... hope Indi doesn't play a single minute in that game

lol Arg vs Ned would be lulzworthy.
Both teams got no defense and midfield.

It hurts me any time a team does that. Atletico did just the same thing against Madrid in the UCL final. Do teams really believe they can hold on to one goal leads by sitting back and inviting continuous pressure? Anyway modern day defensive standards are lower. Even parking the bus has it's flaws and is often dependent on luck. It's important to at least go for some counter attacks and keep the pressure on the other side. Also what happened to the old world tactic of holding on to the ball so that the opponent gets frustrated and does not get many chances with it? That technique is so absent at this world cup.

Did you watch the first 70 mins of this game? Dutch basically sat back and denied space.
Same would happen against Argentina, the game would be 2-1 either way max, Van Gaal won't allow Argentina to attack like that to be able to score that amount.

It was a general comment about the unbalance between the defensive and offensive ability of each team, not an actual prediction.

Germany did exactly that against Portugal and USA. I think Löw wants our players to conserve energy for later stages as much as possible. The tactic is easy, high intensity at the start-> score a goal and then keep the ball/ eventually score from a counter. We didn't sit back at any point even in the Ghana match.
