It's probably been Norway's most disappointing overall performance in the winter olympics, that I've witnessed in my lifetime :PGood thing I'm not a huge fan of any of these sports or athletes. I think snowboarding is the only winter sport I actually care about... oh, and twin-tip skiing.

Really? But as it stands you're top of the medals chart. Finland's got just 3 silvers Very Happy
Not that I care, really, but Norway is still doing great, I would have thought.

Russia v Finland ice-hockey match starting right now, would be great to knock them out at their own Olympics, but I'm afraid this could get ugly for us...

when you play a solid team game like Finland does vs a bunch of individuals like the Russians good things happen....Russians are full of selfish players when things get tough most of there skilled players stop playing team game and just try to win the game themselves, hence why we saw 1000 icings because they were just trying get breakaway passes

Rask is so solid, one of the biggest mistakes my Toronto Maple Leafs ever made was trading him away after they drafted him

Norway have always dominated in the winter olympics, so we (Norwegians) expect them to dominate every time the winter olympics is being held. It's probably partly due to the fact that we don't do that well in the summer olympics. It's a sort of arrogance that's similar to how the English media keep expecting England to win the world cup. Only difference is that we have been hauling in gold medals since before I was born, whereas England rarely ever get anywhere in the world cup Razz

Our overall performance in the winter olympics this year has been relatively sub-par, and I keep hearing colleagues complain about it. I don't know if any of the off-field drama had anything to do with it, or if it's all just excuses, but there's been a shít ton of talk in the media about some of the athletes struggling with unrelated issues, like the tragic loss of a dear friend or family member, Silje Norendal (snowboard) who couldn't handle the pressure, and other similar things. There was also a lot of talk about our ski-waxing team doing an awful job, and the head of the ski-waxing team might get fired soon. I'm not a super-devoted follower of the winter olympics, but I think people should stop trying to look for excuses. It's not like we haven't been winning anything at all this year.

I would be extremely grateful if someone post a link to Russia - Finland ice hockey highlights. I can't find video on the net and I'd love to see goals from this game.

Today and yesterday were the days of hilarious German fails... Yesterday three of our Nordic combined guys fell over each other right in front of the finish line, today the cross country team's last skier was interfered with and he fell down, too, when he was just in front of the finish line en route to a medal, and in giant slalom Stefan Luitz missed the final gate in the second run when he came in with the second best time

same story all tournament these weaker teams just sit back and collapse around there net while Canada just pours on the pressure

there goalie had a lot of luck, should of been a penalty shot on the hand on the puck in the crease.

but 2-1 moving on to play the Americans...this will be the best game of the tournament I guarantee, both teams will go for it and it will be amazing to watch.

rematch of the 2010 gold medal game

With 9 gold medals in total, we currently have 1 more gold medal than any other country. I can't believe we've managed to turn things around already, despite the majority of our biggest names having failed to live up to expectations. It was only a few days ago that the news headlines and so-called experts on TV stated that this had been our weakest overall performance in a long time.

You just got another Gold in the Nordic combined team. Congrats! Your final skiier was really clever in that race and managed to keep our guy behind him by 0.3 seconds. ^^

Canadian Women win gold 3-2 in overtime after being down 2-0 to the American's with 3 minutes to go in the game. Whole country is extremely proud of that group of women, they were underdogs to a younger faster American team but never gave up, 4 consecutive gold medals in women's hockey for Canada now, haven't lost a game at the Olympics since 1998 ,Marie Philip Poulin goes down in history for her amazing 2 goal performance. Spectacular game.

Jennifer Jones also won gold for Canada today in women's curling going undefeated after beating Sweden in the gold medal match today, first time a woman has ever gone undefeated in Olympic curling.

great day for Canadian women

Yeah, I watched the Curling final. It really was chess on ice with the better end for the cooler gals. I think I would need a telescope to properly determine where the stones lie in the house from that distance, much less manage to get one of those things even remotely into a useful position! XD

Lot of controversy over the judging in women's figure skating.

I didn't think anything at first, but did think that Sotnikova winning over Yuna Kim by 5 points was ridiculous. I thought it could go either way, but that it would be extremely close. I thought it could swing the way of Sotnikova for the extra jump, or for Yuna since Yuna was flawless, and Sotnikova messed up once or twice. Yuna had the lead by 3/10 going into it too. I felt the result was odd, but didn't think more of it.

After reading some stuff today, I do have to admit that perhaps I had not thought enough of it. Sotnikova winning by 5 points is pretty damn ridiculous when you compare the routines and how well Yuna skated. Add in Sotnikova won it and this takes place in Sochi, I certainly have reason to believe Sotnikova's scores could be inflated- therein lies the controversy.

Anyway, Yuna Kim. What a skater. Queen Yuna

Yuna Kim was fantastic. I wish she'd have gotten Gold. As a matter of fact, I even found Carolina Kostner better than the Russian girl. Kostner was really amazing with the Bolero, and IMO she would have been a worthy Silver medalist.

Great game between USA and Canada. Being that I'm a Blackhawks fan, I was a bit torn tbh, but I have no hard feelings about Canada taking this. Will be rooting for our bretheren to the north against the Swedes.

Yuna Kim is a figure skater from South Korea. Now I'm not an avid figure skating fan (unless it's Winter Olympics time), so what I say is not from observation but rather from hearing and reading what others say, but she is the "Michael Jordan" of women's figure skating. One of the best of all time. She looked like it, too. She hasn't even been skating consistently since 2011 but comes out, qualifies for the Olympics, and finishes second, and arguably should have won. From Wikipedia:

She is the current record holder for ladies in the short program, the free skating and the combined total under the ISU Judging System. She has broken world record scores 11 times under the ISU Judging System since 2007, eight of which being records she herself set. She is also the first female skater to surpass the 140-point and 150-point free skating mark and the 200-point total mark under the ISU Judging System. She has not finished any lower than third place in her entire career

She says she's retiring, but I hope she comes out of retirement to compete in the next Winter Olympics- which are in her home country of South Korea. She'll be 27 then, but she could probably come out and dominate.
