I might watch an event here or there.
Sochi is looking like a disaster though already...

Greg Wyshynski ✔ @wyshynski
"People have asked me what surprised me the most here in Sochi. It's this. Without question ... it's ... THIS."
Stacy St. Clair @StacyStClair
"My hotel has no water. If restored, the front desk says, "do not use on your face because it contains something very dangerous.""
Stacy St. Clair @StacyStClair
"Water restored, sorta. On the bright side, I now know what very dangerous face water looks like. #Sochi #unfiltered"

What do you want to talk about? The poisonous water, unfinished hotels (some without furniture or electricity), or rampant hacking of any and all electronic devices?
Or maybe the fact that Russia also has a World Cup in 4 years and change...

will absolutely be watching, 3 Canadians in the snowboarding slopestyle finals
and of course the Hockey tournament, we should win....but Russians on home ice will either be really motivated or choke under the pressure.

I think the Norwegian guy (don't remember his name) deserved to win it. I have absolutely no idea what tipped it in Sage's favor... he should've been third, in my opinion. The Canadian and the Norwegian were both better than him.

McMorris (Canadian) had a more difficult run, but was apparently not scored as high because he did a triple cork one of the hardest tricks but because many guys try to do it the judges didn't think it was as creative as Sage's who didn't do a triple cork and did a technically less difficult run because of it.
the judging was very questionable to all those involved as the judges are not the judges that are used all year round on the pro tours that these guys ride on.
on a side note, McMorris who was the gold Medal favourite did his run with a broken rib that he broke just 2 weeks ago at the X Games and still managed a Bronze Medal, very proud of him

Re: Winter Olympics 2014
Yeah, our team isn't looking good this time around. Too many 'past it' veterans, a handful of promising youngsters, some plain average guys and only a few players whom you could expect to make a difference against the top sides. Hopefully Rask will shine in goal, though, he's from my hometown and the same part of it, too, I used to play with him occasionally as a kid at our local ice rink, he was outstanding already back then.
As long as Sweden don't win the thing I'm fine, preferably not Russia, either.

Sandbech (Norwegian) is a great rider, but I was really shocked when he pulled back-to-back Front 14 and Back Triple... like, wtf? Even with the absence of Shaun White and Torstein Horgmo (most consistent rider from team NOR), the top 3 really set a high standard in this competition. I don't think anyone expected Sandbech to place among the top 3, but he really stepped his game up after Horgmo got injured, and in my opinion, he deserved to win it.
I also followed snowboard slopestyle for women and judging by the Norwegian rider, Silje Norendal's form prior to the start of the competition, I was pretty confident that she'd place among the top 3. However, she placed second to last after a pretty disappointing performance and she now claims that she struggled psychologically I hope she'll do better in the future, she's amazingly talented.

Yeah, that's her. I used see her quite often, back when I still had interest in snowboarding. She lives in the neighbouring city of Kongsberg, and that's where me and my friends used to go skiing/snowboarding. I was about 17 at the time, and she looked like she hadn't even entered her teens yet I got interested in the women's slope-style competition when I found out that she was competing in it. It was pretty odd seeing her all grown up and competing in the olympics, when my only memory of her was this tiny brat that always occupied one of the ski-lifts. Kind of makes me feel old

Re: Winter Olympics 2014
Oh, there's a thread for the Olympics ^^
Well, I'm, sure watching. Winter sports are pretty big here in Germany after all. Just watched the luge relay. Good job by the luge team! They got more than half of the gold medals and half of the medals of the German team in general so far XD
"You cannot beat the Germany team in the luge. It is like having Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the same team." - Colin Bryce, former GB bobsledder on BBC TV

Re: Winter Olympics 2014
It's probably been Norway's most disappointing overall performance in the winter olympics, that I've witnessed in my lifetime :PGood thing I'm not a huge fan of any of these sports or athletes. I think snowboarding is the only winter sport I actually care about... oh, and twin-tip skiing.
