So are you denying the fact that Suarez was an important part of Liverpool's amazing season? That, in effect, was the message I got from MJ's post.

Also, basic cursory fact checking just shows that Liverpool is doing what Tottenham did last season by selling one of their star players for a bucketload of money and then reinvesting that to strengthen the squad by dividing the resource into multiple players.

Basic, cursory fact checking also indicates that Liverpool are buying the players who performed with Soton last season and there are still 1-2 Soton players linked.

Unless you mean a more detailed investigation into Liverpool's tactics, Rodger's philosophy and transfer plans - which is already beyond some of the Liverpool fans in the forum, judging by the mixed reactions in the General Section by Liverpool fans towards the Suarez sale.

He did not say important though, he said that Suarez "carried" the team. That implies far more than simply being important, it implies necessary. And even a cursory look would show that there are several other players who were just as influential last season, therefore completely undermining his statement and sentiment.

And the players Liverpool are signing from Sotton, even on the most straightforward level, are clearly being signed as rotation/squad players rather than starters as they were for Southampton. Again, it does not take detailed knowledge of Liverpool's tactics or approach to realize that Lallana will rotate with Coutinho or that Lambert will be a bench option at most. It takes simple logic and the most simple of reasoning.

And don't pretend you don't have the exact same type of dissent over every single action taken by Arsenal, no matter how seemingly straight forward or simple it is. Pot and kettle.

25m is a lot to pay for a rotation player tbh.. even if you have pocketed 75m for the loss of Suarez.

tbf.. arguing over the intention behind the word "carried" is just an argument over semantics. Its pointless. People used to say Henry carried Arsenal, it was accepted despite obviously not being entirely true.

Liverpool lost their star player, there is no denying the ramifications that has, how they react to that is yet to be seen. I suspect it won't be a case of the spurs fiasco repeating itself, however there's no denying the uncertainty that comes with having to reshape to compensate the loss of a player like Suarez.

For the record.. I would prefer pool to make top four over any club, bar Arsenal. I don't mean to stir the pot.

Whereas Liverpool sold the one who carried them to 2nd and have been basically trying to metamorphose into Southampton. One season in 2nd doesn't guarantee anything especially when the previous 4 were 6-8th.

Too early to call it for anyone, the window isn't even half over.

As lazy and inaccurate an argument at Owen's, to be fair.

Right, my bad. It's lazy to assume that a team that finished 6th or below for 4 straight seasons could be in danger of losing their freshly gained top 4 status after losing their top goalscorer (regardless if you have Sturridge, it's also damaging to lose Suarez as a partner and could affect his play) and have already brought in 4 players using the money you sold him with and be in for even more.

I've seen this one before, Spuds flopping with Bale's money. Now it may not necessarily prove to be the same scenario and Liverpool may well finish in the top 4 but to put that at Arsenal's expense is very premature and misguided but if you expected not to have your toes stepped on in the Arsenal section after Owen popped in with his annual parody of a pundit predicting the top 4 then that's hilarious of you.

Not going into responses from Pecc and MJ, which are sensible to say the least.

1. 'Carried' clearly implies something a lot more to you from a semantic view. Doesn't change what I said about the message MJ's post in the Arsenal section conveyed, which is to suggest that he was an important and influential player.

2. Your club, your transfer policy, your tactics. I do not pretend to understand why or what Arsene does, or any other manager for that matter. It may seem rather obvious and trivial to you, but that doesn't do justice to what the manager sees and perceives in training and player assessment. Hence, I don't think it is fair to call it straightforward or simplicity of logic or reasoning. I don't think Liverpool is on oil money to spend about 25m on a bench player either. Then again, there was also a time when you paid 35m of Andy Carrol as a main striker - or wait, was that also a squad signing? Because he was only of that quality, at best. (I'm sorry to bring this up, it's like throwing Silvestre or Squillacci at an Arsenal fan, but it reinforces the fallacy in your argumentation).

3. Dissent - where is the question of pot and kettle? Read my post before you jump to an assumption, no need to get so defensive! You are simply reinstating what I said about even the clubs' own fans not being fully aware of the inner workings or strategy of the club. Juve are selling Pogba and/or Vidal and replacing them with scrubs and Conte just resigned - after one of the most successful domestic seasons in their recent history which culminated with a record breaking points tally, and was preceeded by a replication of our own 49 unbeaten games run. How many Juventini really get what's happening there? There is always dissent within the clubs' fans - that's what creates the framework for interesting perspectives and debates on an online forum. If everyone saw everything the same way, this forum would be just another crowd-based news aggregation/sharing portal. And when your own fans have such a wide spectrum of views, it is rather naive to waltz into another fan section and calling out a post as lazy. If you want a better metaphor, try stone and glass houses. :coffee:

Arsenal's potential opponents in the qualifying round for the Champions League:

Athletic Bilbao (Spain) (if Zenit beat AEL)
AEL Limassol (Cyprus) (if they beat Zenit)
Dnipro Dnirpotrovsk (Ukraine) or FC Kobenhavn (Denmark)
Feyenoord (Netherlands) or Besiktas (Turkey)
Grasshoppers Zurich (Switzerland) or LOSC Lille (France)
Standard Liege (Belgium) or Panathinakos (Greece)

So I guess we're hoping AEL somehow beat Zenit because Athletic Bilbao is by far the toughest team we could draw from that lot.

Hopefully we avoid Lille as well because they are pretty tough at home and could potentially cause an upset.

However I think we should be able to beat all of them, including Bilbao. But let's not make a big mess out of the matches and get some poor team so we can at least rest in the 2nd leg after getting a 4-0 lead.

But most likely we will get Bilbao.

Zenit lost their first leg against AEL 1-0. Still got the home leg to come but that gives AEL a chance of knocking them out.

Other results:

Dnipro Dnirpopetrovsk (Ukraine) 0 - 0 FC Kobenhavn (Denmark)
Feyenoord (Netherlands) 1 - 2 Besiktas (Turkey)
Grasshoppers Zurich (Switzerland) 0 - 2 LOSC Lille (France)
Standard Liege (Belgium) 0 - 0 Panathinakos (Greece)

This was posted on an Arsenal page.

The 350,000 agreement makes Israel Arsenal's "official and exclusive travel destination." Below are just some of the benefits Israel will receive from this deal:

- Israel will be featured on digital perimeter boards and 450 high-definition LCD screens at the stadium on game days;
- Israel will feature on the team's website, Arsenal.com; and in its magazine.
- The televised ads will reach audiences in an estimated 198 countries.

Because I, and many other Gooners won't be happy to hear this.
