Can't put this on Ayre, I'm sure he did what he could. It's either on FSG and us not having enough cash or willingness to meet their asking price OR Dnipro's owner simply refusing to sell. Although if he didn't want to sell I don't know how the negotiations could have gone as far, medical and everything, as they did.

In my eyes the blame on this important yet failed window is on FSG, then on Ayre, Rodgers and the transfer committee, whatever that is.

If we don't make top-4, our failure in this window is going to feel, well, quite damn big.

What I find most frustrating is that this window wasn't even about outright quality. When we have everyone fit, we don't necessarily need anyone to replace one of our current players in this moment in time. But what we really could have done with was decent cover in at least one of the following positions: CM, LW, LB, ST. And making such a cover signing should've been the easiest thing in the world. There were a huge number of loan deals in this window, no financial risk whatsoever but could have provided cover in our thin squad. Yet we sign no one when having our best chance to make top-4 in a few years and are having a bit of an injury issue.

That's what I cannot understand. Why didn't we make at least a depth signing like that?

Exactly. I don't know how we waited till the last couple of days if we were seriously interested in a wide player and wasted so much time after Salah's transfer happened. I was already skeptical of signing Konoplyanka, all that within three days especially with that clueless *bleep* Ayre as our negotiator. Our transfer committee is a joke, I seriously don't think they have alternative backup options in mind beforehand in case we miss on a player.

I'm not as disappointed this time around as I was back in last season's summer window. We never needed Konoplyanka/Salah and the 16m would've just been a waste of money which we could've rather invested in a midfielder. We needed a midfielder and in that respect, this window definitely has been a failure. But on the other hand, I'm also glad we didn't sign him. That money will be put to better use in when far better and effective options will be available.
