Btw Derby play Chelsea this weekend in the FA Cup. So you can watch Will Hughes in action if you're interested. I'm definitely going to be watching.

The kid is class at such a young age. His positional awareness, technique, dribbling, ball control, passing are already polished to a very very high extent. He's still maturing physically but at 18 he's already as tall as Gerrard. And his body is still maturing, he's a bit skinny now but his body will surely fill in. I think he'll be a dream CM for a top team in PL.

There's no doubt in mind we'll get him, we have a very good relationship with Derby, who have given us first dibs at Hughes. Hughes is die hard Red and wants only us. Really can't go wrong.
And btw not hyping him, his qualities I mentioned are really not exaggerated, and he is probably the best English talent along with Barkley atm.

Re: Winter Window || Jan 2014
He will be 19 in April. Unless he is crazy talented (Maradona) or we have an abysmally thin squad, there's little chance of him getting enough games (even if we are competing in four competitions) necessary to keep him developing.
We are likely to sign another midfielder this window and will have SEVEN players at the start of next season. That's not counting any youth players making the grade. We may sign him and let Derby keep him for next season (if they get promoted) or loan him to some weak/promoted PL team.
Bottom-line is, there should be a long-term plan, strategy, vision to optimize such young talents. Talents don't develop playing with the reserve squad.

Sportsdirectnews reporting our double bid for Rakitic & Alberto Moreno.
Echo says we are far from agreeing a deal for Salah, suggesting we still have not come to terms with Basel's 12m pounds asking price. We offer 9m pounds. .
This window is boring

So what would people think if we signed no one in this window?
Not necessarily a bad option, in my opinion, although I'd really like a CM.

No, we should sign a player of good quality in this window because in case Suarez decides to leave in the summer, it will help us better to cope without him since this player will be more settled in the league in the these six months.

Re: Winter Window || Jan 2014
I don't know about that. Replacing Suarez with a single player is a mission impossible for us anyway. I wouldn't go with that way of thinking. Besides, if Suarez is really going to be on a £200k/week contract from next season on, that should offer us some serious protection to losing him. Also, when it comes to attacking players, I don't fancy anything but a (left-)winger in this window. We've got Coutinho and Sturridge and I've been very impressed by Sterling. He has reduced his ball-losing dribbles a lot from last season and is, instead, making some very good runs this season. I'd hate it if we signed an attacking player of the status that would relegate Sterling to the bench more or less permantently.
Moreover, I feel we can cope with an injury to an attacking player better than an injury to a CM at the moment. We haven't missed Sturridge too much, but when Gerrard's been injured we've been far more stretched in midfield, both in terms of stamina and quality.
I'd actually be excited about Salah if we signed him (then again, I was excited about Aspas), but I don't think we necessarily need an attacking signing, at least not a household name. But a CM, yes, please.

Don't say that

Re: Winter Window || Jan 2014
See next window we will have Borini, Suso and Assaidi back...I am not sure whom we will keep and with whom we might try to cash in. So we will actually have enough options in the squad for all competitions we will play in. In addition to these players, I still think that we need one more top player, prferably a CAM (other than Suarez, Studge in attack because as of now hendo and Cou are not putting the ball in the back of the net). As I said, a settled player will have more probability to deliver something than a newly signed player in the next season. We should try to get a goal scoring CM or CAM who can finish what we are not able to do it now.
Considering the case of Suarez leaving, I dont want it to be Bale-Spurs situation.

I just hope when the window closes there is AT LEAST one player that we sign who walks straight into the team like Sturridge and Coutinho did.

Art only wants prem proven
Rememeber when he was hoping we'd sign Vic Moses and Callum McManaman on permanent basis
If we don't sign anyone, we can kiss top 4 goodbye.

Moses I've fancied for a while and still think he can be a good player, but did I really want McManaman?
Gotta hold my hands up and say "my bad" if that's the case
Anyway, yeah, we should totally get Mulumbu

Why have the Salah rumors died down?
If we do sign him, What about Sterling? Assaidi and Moses can kiss the LFC futures goodbye? Ibe loan pls ( He's still injured though )

Reina
Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
Gerrard - Lucas - Henderson
- - - - - Coutinho - - - - -
Sturridge - Suarez
Some players who'd provide good depth and competition for starting places and alternative tactics & formations:
Micah Richards
Andy Carroll
Raheem Sterling
Jonathan de Guzman
Davide Santon
Shaun Maloney
Ali Al-Habsi
Callum McManaman
Mohamed Diame
Steven Nzonzi
I'd like to see a few of those names on our squad list next season.
I don't watch that much other leagues, so don't really know what sort of players would be available from abroad.
Alternative XI !
Al-Habsi
Richards - Skrtel - Agger - Santon
McManaman - Gerrard - Nzonzi - Sterling
Suarez
Carroll

Re: Winter Window || Jan 2014
The Salah rumours have died down because after 10 predictions of him having a medical "in the coming days" papers and hacks have realised that it's not imminent. As the Echo have already stated, we're interested but don't wish to spend 12+m on him in January and are willing to wait until summer, so that we can pursue other targets this window in more pressing areas.Nishank wrote:Why have the Salah rumors died down?

Re: Winter Window || Jan 2014
Keep in mind Nish we'll have 4 competitions next season whether one is CL or EL is still to be determined. And this season our squad is so thin even for 2 competitions. Moses can definitely wave goodbye to us. Assaidi, though, can be very useful if he plays the way he's playing at Stoke.
Ibe is obviously too young so a loan deal would probably be best for him. As far as Salah goes I don't see him hindering anyone's development or taking game time from anybody. We used Brad Smith as a winger ffs, just shows how thin we are so I can't see how having another option would hurt us.

Re: Winter Window || Jan 2014
I don't think is the time for us to buy players for squad depth. I honestly don't think Salah will be a first teamer. There's certain areas which need improvement and for the money we are spending on Salah, we can certainly find better players for those positions.

He (Salah) would be a starter given the state of our current squad. He isn't great but he is better than Raheem (few times I have seen him). Also, neither Coutinho nor Sturridge were finished article when we signed them (and they did walked into the starting XI). I'm not too keen on Salah but he is worth the risk. Besides, what better player can you get for 10-12 million!!!

Re: Winter Window || Jan 2014
By the way, do you think that other top clubs might become interested in some of our players because the way they've been performing this season? Besides Suarez.
Could we end up fighting off bids in this or the next window for Henderson, Coutinho or perhaps Sturridge, or are we safe there?
I wouldn't be surprised to see Chelsea bid for Henderson, they are going to need a CM before next season.

Nah I think the only player besides Luis we have to be worried about this window is probably Agger. The rest are safe. We might have to fight off teams in the summer for Sturridge or Cou but this winter we're good besides the two I mentioned.
But in reality I'm very confident that no one will be leaving.
