Palermo confirm Arsenal-Viviano deal

“Stefano Sorrentino and Samir Ujkani will be our goalkeepers this season,” President Maurizio Zamparini told Stadio News 24.

“We haven’t received any offers for them, whereas Viviano will go to Arsenal.”

Just to put this into perspective: this will be the 2nd highest transfer fee ever paid by an English club, behind the £50mil spend by Chelsea for Torres.

Who'd have thought we would do that?

As for our other potential signings, I'm definitely satisfied with a Szcz-Fabianski-Viviano lineup at the back, although Ba isn't the long-term solution to our striker issue, but I guess with Giroud's recent form and Ba's potential, it could all workout for the season. If anyone can get the best out of a striker, it's Wenger. Of course, we will still need to sign another striker when he leaves next summer.

My main worry is that we still aren't being linked with CBs. I'm guessing the plan is pretty much to use Sagna as a CB when needed and use Flamini at RB to compensate if necessary? Give me a Song or Mascherano who can play CB and DM and I'll be able to sleep soundly.

^ I agree. I would have liked a keeper on a permament deal, someone like Begovic or Guaita, but Viviano could be a smart signing if it really pushes Szczesny this year.

The striker situation is still a problem imo. Giroud has started off wonderfully but every top team has at least 2 strikers they can rely upon if one is out of form or injured. Theo can be used at ST, but he's far more dangerous making runs off the flank, especially with Ozil coming in now.

Pastore is a good player, despite his time at PSG being underwhelming he's still young, who could thrive under Wenger. I know that AW has said in the past that he was interested in Pastore. But I'm surprised one marquee AM-type is coming in this window, can't realistically conceive of a second one. Maybe he's just a back-up inquiry in case Özil falls through at the last second.
