Napoli claim Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign Edinson Cavani over his asking price.

President Aurelio de Laurentiis, speaking at a news conference to officially unveil Rafael Benitez as the Serie A club's new manager, told reporters City were not prepared to meet a £54m buy-out clause for the highly-rated striker.

"Manchester City do not have money to pay for Cavani because they say we won't pay that," De Laurentiis said on Friday.

"Abu Dhabi (City's owners) say they would never pay 63m euros (£54m) for Cavani."

Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid are all in the hunt for the 26-year-old Uruguay international but De Laurentiis believes his departure is far from inevitable.

"With Edinson nothing has changed," he added. "Headlines I've read in the papers did not represent his words exactly.

"He could never deny the importance of a club like Real Madrid's, but don't forget that he made his name at Napoli.

"If a club like Anzhi (Makhachkala) enquire about him, maybe he says no, but other clubs like Bayern (Munich), Barcelona or Real Madrid could persuade him to leave.

"He knows that he has a contract and an obligation to us, and there is a buy-out clause.

"Cavani knows that at Napoli he is the most important player. I do not know whether, at Real Madrid or in other teams, he will be as important."

Aulas is bashing Gomis daily on Twitter, clearly hinting that he is unwanted and would lose his spot in the squad if he was staying. This is biggest pushing out campaign I have seen from the club so far.

Gomis had refused Turkey and Russia in the past, England is much more attractive.

I have big hopes on him for next season. Hope he can bag 10 goals for his first true season in the team.

There are some rumors that Monaco might take Gomis to buy Aulas support, but I don't really see it.

In other news, one of France big hope, Thauvin, currently at the U20 WC, had signed at Lille last winter before being left out on loan at Bastia for the rest of the season, wants now to join Marseille and doesn't want to play with Lille anymore.

He hasn't even played one match with Lille so far....

Aulas set a deadline for the Corchia deal for monday.

Apparently both club agreed on the price, but the club would like to pay in two times.

Aulas is being an idiot. With the way he's treating players, he's destroyed any feeling of loyalty towards Lyon. So unprofessional.

apparently chirivella already has a protective clause in his contract and liverpool would have to put up 4 mil for him... on a related note if the dl teams could start actually training their own players and stop raiding other clubs that would be great
