Terrible Transfer. At 37, he will be rubbish. Yes we get a legend though he won't be great imo.

Stay mad, finally a reason to watch the A-League. Chaka

He'll tear the league apart if the referees offer him the protection they should and his minutes are restricted sensibly. If the deal is finalised I'll definitely go to watch Heart vs Sydney. Maybe even Victory vs Sydney so that I can cheer for his side in a match.

Did you see his last season at Juve? 6 goals and 2 assists is not bad at all considering he only started 10 games last season.

i dont think theres one person in Sydney FC who could care less about how well adp will play, in fact as long as he can actualy get on the feild regularly the only person who will care about how well hes playing is the manager

?? At 37 he still looks an excellent player. He was still very good for Juve last year, he'll be incredible in the A-League. We haven't had a player of that calibre play here yet.

It will attract fans yes especially with the growing Italian population in Sydney though I can't see him play regular 90 minutes of football, not even 60 minutes.

Latest on Michael Ballack [via TWG]:

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1121178/Ballack-bound-for-the-A-League

The unveiling of German superstar Michael Ballack as the A-League's next drawcard is imminent with official confirmation of the decorated midfielder’s arrival expected next week.

With Alessandro Del Piero already in Australia and former England international Emile Heskey on his way, the arrival of Ballack to lead Western Sydney Wanderers in its inaugural A-League season is another stunning coup for the competition.

Sources in Germany confirmed to The World Game that 2002 World Cup finalist Ballack - who turns 36 on 26 September - has opted for Australia over rival offers in the Middle East and MLS in a one-year deal in excess of $1 million.

Ballack is poised to join Wanderers in time for its A-League debut on Saturday 6 October against Central Coast Mariners at Parramatta Stadium.

And, in a mouth-watering prospect, Ballack would line up against Italian legend Del Piero in the round three derby against Sydney FC.

Ballack's signing would complete a stunning trio for the A-League but, while his deal has been mooted as far from a sure thing by some, Football Federation Australia's Head of the A-League Damien De Bohun said the fact he's even linked to a move to Australia is an important step in the game's growth.

"The interest in the league, I've never seen anything like it," he said.

"There's no doubt Del Piero's signing has opened the eyes of athletes all over the world.

"There's all sorts of rumours flying around but the fact that someone like Ballack would even contemplate coming to the A-League is huge.

"Four or five years ago that wasn't a conversation people were even prepared to have."

Free agent Ballack - who has maintained his fitness since leaving Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season by training with the German national team's top conditioner - is expected in Australia in the first days of October.

"Michael is excited by the prospect of coming to great city like Sydney and being a part of a new project in an emerging football country," the source said.

"He has kept himself very fit and obviously the match-fitness will come quickly from that.

"He will certainly be in Australia for the first game and over the next few days the finer details will be sorted out and it all be revealed to the people in Australia that he is coming."

TWG understands Ballack – who scored 42 goals in 98 appearances for his country – will be handed the Wanderers armband by coach Tony Popovic.

And Heskey confirmation:

ADP > Ballack, but still Ballack is an awesome signing. The derby will be a replay of the 2006 WC Semi-final for those two.

Anyone watch TWG tonight?

Popovic was coy over Ballack signing and fans are getting a bit fed up over the delay.

Apparently there are stalls over money which isn't surprising... I think the FFA should do everything to get him because WSW need fans. I'm a bit worried that the ADP signing will pull some potential Wanderers fans to Sydney FC.

Otherwise backup option is Shinji Ono, and "two or three other guys" according to Popovic.

-----------

Meanwhile, Jason Culina is training with Sydney FC Shocked How good would Sydney be if he joins... god damn...

Ian Crook confirmed he wants to play 4-3-3, Del Piero could start in the front 3 for now.

Narrow formations like that only work in Italy. No thanks.

Behind the number nine is the way to go.

That is not true at all. Anyway, how is playing behind a lone striker any less narrow than playing behind 2 strikers?

4-2-3-1 has wingers and fullbacks?

Partly kidding around with that comment I made Forza but I hate formations without wingers. If you watched any of Sydney last year they were crying out for some decent wingers.

If you playe ADP behind a 2 forwards... then I presume you're meaning play a 4-4-2 diamond with Ale at the top right? We played that last year, it f*kn sucked lol

I didn't see a lot of Sydney last season. Are you saying that they played with no width last season, or that they had wingers but they sucked?

If it's the former, there is no reason why a 4-4-2 with midfield diamond has to be narrow. You could also have a 4-3-1-2 with wingers. Another option with wingers, 2 strikers and a man in the hole would be a 3-5-2.

On the other hand, if the problem is Sydney not having decent wingers, that in itself would be a very good reason not to have wingers in the formation.

All that being said, playing ADP behind a lone striker is not a bad idea, I'm just suggesting that there is room for tactical variability.

Sydney played with no width and the players they had capable of playing on the wing were old and slow. They had a few quick players, but the coach continued to play them centrally.

4-4-2 diamond is IMO either too narrow or too weak centrally... 1 AM and 1 DM is not enough to play the sort of game Sydney want to, which means the other players tuck in and play as centre mids. Thus there is no width other than the FBs.

I dont really get how 4-3-1-2 has wingers and while 3-5-2 may actually be excellent I can't see it happening. Again a very Italian formation these days...

I know Milan play without much width but... yeah, different kette of fish here.

Sydney this season spent most of their money on acquiring good wide players (other than ADP)... so I think thats the way we'll be going 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. Luckily my two favourite formations.
