Arsenal v Everton, Tuesday 16th April 7.45pm, Emirates Stadium, Premier League

Arsenal v Everton Preview Arsenal-v-Norwich-City-Premier-League

Premier League Table

1. Man Utd 80pts
2. Man City 65pts
3. Arsenal 59pts
4. Chelsea 58pts
----------------
5. Spurs 58pts
6. Everton 55pts

Opportunity for Gunners to stamp authority on top four

When Swansea City came to the Emirates on December 1, and left with three points courtesy of a late Michu brace, Arsenal were left languishing in tenth place in the Premier League table, five points off the top four places. Fast forward four months, and Arsène Wenger's men are flying, sitting in third spot. Saturday's victory against Norwich at the Emirates was the Gunners' 8th win in 10 league games - the joint best form in the top-flight along with champions-elect Manchester United.

"That typifies us at the moment," says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who had a huge impact from the bench on the weekend. "We really have built that team spirit, we never give up until it's over." Three goals in between the 84th and 91st minute further confirmed Arsenal as the late goal specialists this season. Wenger's side have now scored 28 goals in the last 10 minutes of league games in 2012/13. Vice-captain Mikel Arteta knows how important a place in the Champions League for a sixteenth successive season is for the club; "It's massive, we have to keep fighting."

But Everton also have a European dream. David Moyes' side are fully aware that a win at the Emirates would propel them to within just a point of Arsenal. 4 wins a draw in their last five games, the Blues are in strong form. "It's a vital game," says Moyes. "There is a lot to lose."

Match Facts

* Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League games against Everton (W8, D3) since a 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park in March 2007.

* The Gunners have more wins (26) and scored more goals (82) against Everton than they have against any other side in Premier League era.

* Arsenal have lost only one of their 20 Premier League home matches against Everton (W16, D3, L1).

* Everton are unbeaten in their four visits to London this season (W1, D3). But they haven't kept a clean sheet in 13 trips to the capital since a 0-0 draw at Fulham in September 2010.

Team News

Arsenal

Fabiański (rib) is a major doubt, but Rosický (hamstring) is available andMertesacker returns from suspension. Diaby (knee) remains out.

Excellent preview mate

I would probably go with the same team, but i do wonder that maybe Arsene is thinking of starting Wilshere somewhere in there since he would be much more sharp than against Norwich. However that would mean dropping Ramsey who was one of our best players against Norwich if not the best. Rosicky is a must since given his form atm. Walcott would be obvious too. He plays well against Baines and baines threat usually reduces to 50% when Walcott is there.

Hopefully we keep our good record against them. Fellaini will be a thorn in our backsides all game. Anichebe's pace and power will trouble Mertesacker. Mirallas is very tricky to play against at times.

None of that would matter much if we can keep most of the possession and strike early on. This team does a lot better with belief within themselves.

Anichebe and Fellaini are going to bring murder to our defence. We need big Mert and Kos to be on their A game tomorrow

Great work

Huge game really pumped for this

losing some aerials might be inevitable but collecting 2nd balls necessary
Fellaini come from behind to press and force a error
should be less predictable and Arteta and Aaron take turn to drop and Receive when want to play from the back

Walcott as RG said can do well vs Baines
in reserve fixture he went left and needed to take extra touch to cross
that was exactly when we were discussing possibilty of Santi playing inside-creative role from left
draw wont do them any good hope it will be some more space
Anichbe was so wasteful on counter chances vs spuds
more like that pls you African prodigy Arsenal v Everton Preview Trolldolski

Everton have netted the joint-most headed goals in the top flight (13) along with Norwich (who netted their 13th against the Gunners last Saturday) and Manchester United.
The Toffees have conceded the highest number (14) and percentage of headed goals in the Premier League this season (38%).

I figured this game would end in a draw, but if you guys wanted to drop all 3 points and guarantee a 5th place finish that'd be cool to... cheers

Great preview Sam.

A must win game, must score early and please no stupid mistakes at the back. I dont know if I want to drop Vermaelen for Per. I thinks its better to go with Vermaelen for this game, Per is too weak to play tough Everton team.

---------------Giroud------------
Podolski-----Cazorla-----Walcott
------Arteta--------Ramsey------
Monreal--Koscielny-Vermaelen---Jenk
----------------Fabianski----------

I probably won't be able to watch this match live; it's going to kill me! affraid

In looking at the run-up to the season's end, I feel like any points from the Man Utd game will be a bonus. But this one against Everton will be massive for our final momentum and place in the table.

just noticed that we have a phenomenal record against Everton despite being tough opponents.. may be the best against any top 10 team..

great preview Sam.. Thumbs up
the most interesting thing today will be the squad.. that is the most practical lineup..
but i will play the more fit one among Rosicky and Wilshere as the CAM.. Rosicky as CAM and sadly Wilshere in for Ramsey if both are fit.. and after seeing the performances of Ox i would prefer him over Walcot.. and may be a defensively better Monreal for Gibbs for this match.. Podolski has no slots.. and an interesting option as someone posted is seeing him behind Giroud if both jack and Rosicky are not completely fit..
so my personal selection would be..
Sczeny
Sagna --- Kos --- Verm --- Monreal
Arteta --- Wilshere(Ramsey)
Ox(Walcott) --- Rosicky(wilshere)(Podolski) --- Cazorla
Giroud

Great preview as ever Sam!

My 2 cents:

* Jack should be on the bench. Rozza, Mikel and Rambo are a competent midfield. Jack's been out for 6 weeks, doesn't make sense to give him two starts in 3 days. Ease him in, and ease the expectations on him.

* 6 games left: Everton (today), Fulham (20 Apr), ManUtd (28 Apr), QPR (4 May), Wigan (14 May), NUFC (19 May).
=> This game is crucial for both sides.
15 points off the 18 and it would be a champions run of form since the losses to Chavs and Citeh in January. But that means not slipping on the potential banana peels of Fulham and QPR. Wigan game is shortly after the FA Cup and their 4th game in 10 days - with that and the relegation battle, they could well be knackered. A win against ManUtd, and not letting c*nts win trophies at our home, would be much desired.

That said, I have a bad feeling about this one. Sad

I should have a bad feeling, but I don't.

Everton operate well against teams that don't really put Everton on the pedestal. Their players will have to defend well against our team, their midfield can't handle our midfield, Coleman is fast enough to stop Gervinho but not defensively good enough.

We should win, and we will.

Also, Fabianski is probably out.

Fabianski is a major doubt but we will decide that tomorrow [Tuesday]. He got a kick in the rib [against Norwich City].

Sagna Mertesacker Koscielny Monreal/Gibbs
Arteta Ramsey
Walcott Podolski Cazorla
Giroud

Think we'll see this side and hopefully a more comfortable win than usual.

I was talking about how both Everton and Arsenal have managed to be competitive with shoestring budgets, how they promote youngsters from their respective academies, how they buy for peanuts and sell for a bomb...

As for the "nearly men" comment:It was with respect to how Arsenal have been on the verge of winning things but don't and how Everton have always been on the verge of an European entry but don't end up getting the CL slots...
