Re: Transfer Rumours
Whats best for the club is Valdes staying because he's the best GK in the world for Barca.
We should sign a GK anyway and he can groom him. The situation would be ideal. Forget the money, its worth it.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Your right. It would be nice if we got Ter Stegen to rotate with Valdes vs Reina rotating with Ter Stegen. HUGE difference as I consider Reina to be on a decline.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Exactly... Reina would be a massive step down in class.
BTW guys, rumour that Benitez wants Mascherano at Lazio!!! Fee could be 15-18m... Take it and run!!!
But lets not get too excited, just a rumour. No substance yet. We don't want to get our hopes up lol.

Spot on kizz. The very same thought came to my mind as well.
Re: Transfer Rumours
kizz, I suppose you mean Benitez wants Mascherano at Napoli. It could be a win-win for all concerned but then it absolutely mandates that we sign no less than two center backs this summer.
Re: Transfer Rumours
A rumour on Twitter right now says that Barca have received a very high bid for Pedro, probably from PSG.
Re: Transfer Rumours
No... Pedro is not on PSG agenda... maybe Monaco.

High bid... how much is a high bid? If it's anywhere 25, SELL, SELL!
And sell Alexis too.
And sell Alexis too.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Barcelona need a goalkeeper with good commanding of box (i.e. scrap De Gea, he's too passive). Someone who comes out on crosses and cleans up/punches what your defenders are clearly unable to deal with. When you look at the goals Barcelona have conceded this season, especially in big matches, 40% of them have been corners (headers). It is actually an embarrassing stat for a top team.
Someone like Diego López would have done very well, he has what Barcelona need (i.e. box commander and great on feet) but he's out of the equation I guess?

Re: Transfer Rumours
What is Ter Stegen like with his commanding of the box?
Most of the media seem convinced that Valdes will stay another year and then he will join next season.
I was going to say its bound to be good because he's German but that would be just awful stereo typing

Re: Transfer Rumours
From what I've heard, he's got quite an aggressive style when coming out and also good at organising the defence. Could be what Barcelona need. Not sure about his ball-playing skills though.
Bundesliga Fußball wrote:In his three ‘Man of the Match’ performances against the Bavarians, Ter Stegen had the highest number of touches amongst his Gladbach team-mates with 62 on Friday evening. His 57 Bundesliga appearances, to date, may have come in a flash but Ter Stegen is becoming the cornerstone of Gladbach’s resilience this season. Dante’s departure to FC Bayern has had a huge effect on the solidity of Favre’s back-four and his increasing confidence has been invaluable this season. Ter Stegen is dominant from corner-kicks, collecting 11 of them and securing 43 cross-balls in his grasp.
His distribution of the ball is up there with the best in the Bundesliga. Ter Stegen has made 126 accurate throw-outs this season and 12 successful goal-kicks which have landed at another team mate. To put that into context, German number one, Neuer, has managed 99 accurate throw-outs and only one accurate goal-kick.

Re: Transfer Rumours
If we managed to sell Pedro and Mascherano this season.. christ that would be great but realistically nothing will change and we'll be lucky to buy a new GK and maybe a center back.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Not sure if anyone has already asked, but can you lads give any information on Luis Alberto? I've seen one (supposedly) reliable and respectable poster on Barca/Spain players say that he's good enough to immediately go into our first team despite being only 20 years old. I've also seen different reports as to his primary position ranging from CM to CAM to LF/LW... is he simply very versatile or are some of the reports inaccurate? Any information you can provide would be appreciated.

Re: Transfer Rumours
He started many games for Barca B as a 9. Sort of played like a false 9. He showed ability as a passer, making some great passes...putid in font of goal.
Free thinks he could make a fine midfieldr and I think I agree.
In some games he played in midfield with a striker ahead if him.
Don't think he would start at Pool. Just my opinion though.

No need to be disrespectful to a player that has given 10 times more to our club than your idol Alexis.

Indeed he is very versatile. Hrs has played as 9, lw, Cam and Cm for us. However his best position is CAM or CM. He is a great passer and set piece taker. He has like 20 assists this season. However, he has a problem: he is slow and is not very good defensively. In a top team like Liverpool that's a problem because they usually want a better defender at the double pivot and someone faster at AM.

Re: Transfer Rumours
We'll almost certainly start with Lucas in a holding role and Gerrard just ahead of him as our distributor. Ahead/alongside them is a question, as it could be Henderson in a midfield 3 or when we need a bit of extra work rate in there, or Coutinho ahead of those two if we want creativity... there's also the possibility of a new signing coming in and Coutinho shifting left again.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Whatever happens, the third midfielder in the triangle will need to be mobile and able to track back at times (or a lot in Henderson's case) so I'm not sure that Luis Alberto would fit, from what you've said so far.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Good on the ball, a bit slow for the high line, injury prone, fits the Barca profile but imo doesn't address the weaknesses of the club. Good 3rd choice, not good enough to start along Pique. The Sanchez wrote:Ezequiel Garay, 26, has been linked with us. What do you reckon?
