Re: Football lost today
To be fair to Pirlo we asked him to play as a CDM in a Catenaccio system. When we play for possession he dominates.

Re: Football lost today
Ye it was a sacrifice, and it could have cost u some goals. If one was to do that again, Pirlo could have played the second half instead, letting someone else absorb the pressure defensivly. But stuff like that is impossible to measure ofc, and I am sure Pirlo is a great and respected leader figure out on the pitch, good for morale etc.

Re: Football lost today
I agree, if we want to play pure Catenaccio for a whole game Pogba would be better suited purely because of age and size really. But we kept Pirlo on and he sprayed some long balls which completely cut Celtic open. Not to mention his vast CL experience (I don't have to tell a Milan fan)
I imagine in the 2nd leg unless we field a weakened team we'll see him dominating things as we play our usual serie A style of play.

Re: Football lost today
Wouldnt be good ol UEFA without some drama in the return leg, no?
Predicts an early red card for Juve and a bunch of ugly "lucky goals" (if there is such a term) for Celtic, turning it around and eventually winning, making the whole world of Britons running around naked in the streets of turin. The whole thing ofc ending with Roma Ultras stabbing the lot down, and stealing the headlines.

I feel for Celtic because they were always the underdog coming into this. Can't blame Juve though because they played great imo.

Re: Football lost today
Wait, didn't Celtic beat Barcelona by defending the entire game and having zero possession of the ball? Everyone said they were heroic. Juventus teaches Celtic how to defend right and score when needed, and they are looked at as crooks. Hypocritical

i personally wouldnt say that but you see the difference- its the change in quality.
celtic took down giants using any means necessary. juve have more than enough quality to play celtic (who progressed by the skin of their teeth) off the park but chose to play defensively. you see the difference.

Why would Juventus attack when they went 1-0 up on the road within three minutes in the tie? I'm sure they were more than content with a 1-0 win away from home.

i think so too, and if you look back i think i had the first post where i defended juve
but i just dont think the situation you cited is hypocritical considering juve were playing scrubs and celtic were playing the best team in the world.

I'm here to apologise on behalf of all Juventus fans/players for an Italian side playing Catenaccio.
Pinning Celtic back went really well for the last 20odd teams who went to Celtic park didn't it

Re: Football lost today
Why do people behave like Catenaccio was invented yesterday or something ? I guess football has been dead since the 60s then ?
Italian teams play like this all the time especially when the first leg is away and this time it was done simply to outwit the opposition ,i mean see how clueless Celtic were with the ball yesterday. The lack of imagination, ideas were so blatantly evident.Isnt that an intelligent move on the coach's part ?Why would i expect ignorant people to get it anyways coz everybody here expects teams to play like Barca, and those are the same people who think having more ball possession=dominated the game
Sepi:"Liverpool are the 3rd best possession based side".Like it holds any sort of relevance or something

The mighty Captain Brown sure as hell doesn't. Gets pushed by Licht in the box and practically hits the Linesman

I didn't see the game but just from the sounds of it I appreciate the game played by Juve from a tactical point of view but I don't agree with it.
But I would say that being a Barca fan.
I won't comment any more on this though.

how about neil lennon b1tching about the refs after the game. he's such a little fire pants that one. if pepe starts and scores in the 2nd leg and celebrates in front of the curva it would top it off

I think I would die a happy man. The Pepe golf swing topping off our progression into the last 8 as Lennon limps back to Glasgow and pretends his teams title race actually means anything.

Re: Football lost today
Some English-supporting fans here can't support parking the bus when the team they want to win does it and criticize it when it causes them to lose. When Celtic or Chelsea do it and win it's not only a perfectly legal tactic but also a masterpiece in defending. Can't say I don't enjoy them getting a bit of their own medicine.
Although I have to note that I am not talking about Sepi. I think he's been converted to Cruyffism which, so i'm not misunderstood, is not a bad thing at all

Re: Football lost today
Juve fans acting like a 6 foot year old ripped guy who just beat the crap out of a tiny 16 year old teenager who is 5 foot 4, and then goes on GLOATING about it all the time.
pathetic. like it's understandable since this is Juve's best European round in over half a decade, but it's getting pathetic.
I refuse to make remark about "Title race meaning anything" because I'll be banned, but you get the point.
@BC: Yes man! I've seen the light and become a tiki-takaist. It may have brought inconsistency to my team now, but if our owners aren't idiots and back up the idea, it'll pay off dividends long-term. You simply CAN NOT go wrong with possession , limiting opposition team to 1 shot in 80 minutes, and then losing 2-0 after missing a penalty . One day, this Liverpool curse will fade away, the same way Juve's faded away. I believe

Re: Football lost today
Am I the only one not shocked to see an Italian team, basically Italy's national team play defensively? I mean it's so unheard of right?
Anyways Celtic sucked, they need to practice their shooting honestly how many wasted opportunities. No one else to blame but themselves.
Was also disgusted to watch the game with English commentators, I thought I've heard biased talkers before but jeez this one took the cake.

Re: Football lost today
Another excellent thread Sepi. Would rep you if I could.
Glad someone pointed it out, British football has been slowly trying to play football the right way and then these Italian cowards set the sport back by another decade or two.
You have Pirlo, Vidal and Marchsio in midfield against an average Scottish side which probably costs less than Torres transfer fee alone and you go on to play rugby style and kick and run. It's not as if they had Xavi and Iniesta in there. Scott Brown is their best midfielder for Christs' sake.
These are the kind of games that loses young fans/talent to other sports. The wee lad that was supposed to become the next Messi might be the next Chris Paul solely because of this atrocity of a match.
Sad to see Italians ruin the sport but hey, at least they're consistent.
