Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
It's well known, David Villa wants to leave Barcelona. Balague confirmed he was "desperate" to leave 2 weeks ago as he wants first-team football (as well as to play in the centre-forward role).
Journos on spanish tv last night said any move in Jan is unlikely due to different reasons (i posted them on here already). However, as Jay says, not sure that included a loan.
A loan deal with option to buy in summer is maybe best for all parties.
Here's hoping.
(As for gards44, as I said, he's a Spurs fan, but very reliable, followed for year)

Sam Allardyce said:
"We've struck a deal with Arsenal, I'm glad to say but unfortunately our registration went through too late and they've refused to allow him to be available for selection tomorrow (against Manchester United).
"I think that will be it in terms of strikers. We're due to get Andy Carroll back (to fitness) so we should be okay."

Really? Villa, a wideman who wants to play centrally is supposed to come where we have Giroud and another wideman who wants time centrally? If we get Villa on loan, Theo's gone.

Sign Villa and Adrian and let Theo go, tired of him holding us hostage.
Theo should be given until Monday Jan7th and if he dont sign he should be sold.

David Villa is an "exceptional player" - what Wenger always says he's looking for.
Villa can play any of front 3 roles.

Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
His pick is Zlatan Ibrahimovic or something.
Are you saying that we should rely on Walcott to be our striker, then? It'd be very risky to do so, because thus far he's been a mixed bag. I'd like to say we can rely on Giroud, but we know he doesn't quite suit the team.
Villa wants to play centrally, but the main motivation for him wanting to leave is to get consistent playing time again, which he would certainly get at Arsenal.
I don't see any reason why we can't play Villa and Walcott together in the same team. They can interchange positions during a game or they could both play as inside forwards. We could play one centrally and one wide depending on the situation.
Considering it'd only be a loan, it would give us more options up top and give us a good backup option if Walcott down the middle doesn't work out.
And there's the added bonus of limiting Gevais' game time, harsh as that sounds.

So we'd have Podolski, Giroud, Theo, Ox and Villa. Obviously that means the displacement of one of those four. Villa wouldn't accept a bench role, it would be an odd move to bench Podolski with his work ethic and efficiency, Giroud is catching form and benching him for Villa would be a slap in the face to Theo (not insinuating he doesn't deserve a bit of a smack).
So someone's not starting or the more realistic scenario given we sign Villa, Theo doesn't get promised the central starting berth and signs elsewhere.

Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
It'd be the same if we signed Adrian, or any other winger/forward. He's a centre forward, first and foremost, but can play in wide positions, so he's in the same boat as Villa, Walcott and Podolski.
While Adrian would be more likely to accept a bench role, he'd be a permanent signing and would have to get minutes on the pitch in the long run in place of Podolski, Giroud or Walcott. Villa would need minutes, but he'd only be here on loan. It'd be short-term compromise while Walcott proves himself down the middle, because ultimately that's what we're looking for; if Walcott doesn't work out, then we'd need someone else.

Podolski can sit on the bench if he continues to be highly inconsistent.

I can just imagine the fury if M'Vila signs for Spurs
And I don't know why anyone with ambition would want to sign for QPR.

Cant blame Wenger he is looking to sign next messi for 25k. Holtby and Mvill are too old and have not part of Arsenal plan to win the FA cup in the year 2025.
The only way I can see us do some Panic buys is if we get embarrassed this weekend. There is no pressure at all on Wenger. Wenger has not got the Memo yet, The transfer window is open.

Are you guys kidding? A loan deal with option to buy doesn't suit "all parties". Barça wouldn't be interested at all. We need Villa until the end of the season, if you want him, pay him.
