Think he was making a more general statement: "players will join the EPL from Italy and Spain". Didn't specifically mention that we were going to sign a player from Italy and Spain.

Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
Most reports suggesting that the board are not holding back funds from Wenger. Even the club's communications director, Mark Gonnella (who's actually on twitter) is saying that Wenger is not having his hands tied.
Logically, it doesn't make much sense for the board to hold anything back from Wenger and then come out and say to fans that their is money to spend. I know a lot of people like to think our board are full of greedy and nefarious villains but I really don't think they're lying to us when they say funds are available.
Apparently, Gonnella argued that a) where would the money go if it wasn't available to spend? and b) fans would be able to see where the money is going because accounts are public. Pretty good points.
Of course, it would be nice if they exerted a bit more pressure on Wenger to get things done but that's a different issue.

That's where Dein is being missed. Our transfers has been pretty poor in the last few years.

Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
There's a theory out there that Wenger is actually having to do too much since Dein left. On top of having to manage the squad, he's had to take part in some of the negotiating for the transfers. Unable to successfully divide his time and expertise between both jobs, we've suffered in both areas.
Just so many things wrong right now.

Yeah like how he called up SAF last minute to demand 2 million pounds more seems a bit odd.

'The Times': The Arsenal Board HAVE given Wenger £50m to spend in January and advised him to spend it. - http://thetim.es/SVFCgS
Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
I don't like the idea of Guardiola coaching some team that is not Barça, but Arsenal would be one of the options I would like the most.
He would be perfect for Arsenal IMO. He would bring some unknown gem from the youth teams and his tactical, motivation and fitness planifications would ensure a much more competitive short-term arsenal. With your current squad, Guardiola would be competing for Top-3 and minor titles for sure.
Another thing is his transfers which are not very good and thus, making a great team that can win the EPL or CL would be quite an achivement. Maybe the club should try to get a sporting director like Barça or City have to help Guardiola in the transfer department.
Nani would be a great signing for Arsenal too.
Nani + Wanyama/Capoue/Sissoko + Cavani + defender and Arsenal could really be a force.

Thats why we are always fighting for top 4 because we always bring unproven young players instead of buying some real talents.RealGunner wrote:According to FootMercato Arsenal scouted last Saturday the 17yo midfielder Paul Arnold Garita who plays in Ligue 2 for Châteauroux.

Wengers will never spend, his ego>>>>>>>>>>>>Arsenal, wenegr's favorite game Russian roulette.
Wenger is old school, he is saving the money for a rainy day, he cant see the stadium is flooded.
Which manager in the world would turn down the money the board is giving him to spend?
50m will solve our problem and will make us a top team if spend on right players. We can buy 3 quality players that will improves us right away.

As much as I hate the Arsenal board, I do believe them and I think its Wenger being stingy and sacred to buy.
He wants his kids at Arsenal to prove us wrong, he does not want to hurt their feelings.
Gervinho needs love too.

Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
The fact that Wenger has 50M to spend means didly squat.... there arent too many WC players that will cost between 20-25M who will take less than 85k/week.... The Arsenal board are sucking Arsene dry.... I understand the arguement for being self sustained and being sensible and all but this board is hardcore. they havent spent a net dollar since they sold Ashley cole....

Re: The Official Arsenal Winter Transfers/Rumours Thread
The timing of Ramsey's renewal is pretty terrible, given his own poor form and the state of the squad at the moment.
Putting that aside, a new contract is a tremendous show of faith and even if things go wrong, we could be able to get a bigger fee for him.

Anyone else feel as though that all of a sudden the corporate side of Arsenal is trying to distancing themselves from Wenger. My guess is that if we end no better than mid-table that Wenger will be gone and a lot of people will be talking about him.

I agree, but I hope we send him on a loan. We have nothing to lose if we resign Ramsey as long he stops playing on the wings.
