Atletico may be the smaller brother in Madrid but they still pack a big punch. After finishing 5th last season Simeone and his men are aiming even higher this season. The chance of champions league football is on the table as Malaga are slipping and Valencia are in continued debt. The key players will have to stand up this season if they wish to showcase their stuff in the champions league next season. Falcao will have to continue banging in the goals while Adra Turan and Cristian Rodríguez will be the supply line for him. Falcao and Cristian Rodríguez spent two seasons together at Porto so they will have a very good understanding. Elsewhere Chelsea Loanee Thibaut Courtois will have the job of keeping the goal, after a stellar season last season Simeone and Atletico will be hoping for more of the same from the young Belgian. New signing Emre Belözoğlu is expected to improve the midfield alongside Thiago, Gabi and Raúl García who returns from a successful loan at Osasuna. Óliver Torres Will be hoping for a breakout season for the club after playing throughout preseason.

Atléti lost on Pentalties to Deportivo de la Coruña in their last friendly before the season's kick off. The match finished 2 2 after all of regulation time and extra time. Adrian and Godin missed the penalties as we lost 4-3.

Probaby not but you never know.

Atleti do well in the Europa, I doubt beating them will come easy for anyone, including newcaslte. it would be a good match though, especially if Cisse tries to defy the laws of physics again.

Well, the two matches where I watched Atlético in full were the EL quarter final matches against Hannover 96 last season. Atlético looked pretty good then and went on to win the whole thing for a reason.

I liked what I saw of Thibaut Cortois, btw. I hope for you that Petr Čech will play well for a while longer still. ^^

I hope Cech hangs around too but I feel very safe knowing that should anything happen to him Courtois is almost ready to take his spot. Give him 6 months like with De Gea and he will be ready and there for the long haul. Helps me sleep easy at night.

Also, I know in a few years Courtois will be ready and then no matter who gets the nod we will have a world class GK in between the posts.

Atleti on the other hand might need a new GK next season unless Sergio Asenjo or Joel steps up. Neither seem good enough right now.

Juanfran is out of the first match with a knee injury. Shame really

In other news Atleti have denied rumours of Geromel joining from Koln, great player but not really needed.

Juanfran and Filipe are out for the opening match against Levante.

So we drew 1all with Levante. Arda scored our only goal.

Decent result overall. Would have liked three points but I will settle for 1. Next up, Athletic!

I am a Chelsea fan but Atleti is my second team. I will be watching them this season because I am interested in Courtois.

No, he played the first match in LM of a -3-4-3 and second at LW.

He is a sure starter imo. We don't have much depth on the wings.

Yep Rodriquez is a sure starter unless Simeone moves his love child Arda to the left wing and uses Adrian on the Right

The guy is abit wasteful but he was good against Bilbao, didn't like him against Levante but he will only get better
