Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud
- Position: Forward
- Age: 25
- Birth Date: Sep 30, 1986
- Birth Place: France
- Height: 1.92m
- Weight: 88 kg
EARLY YEARS:
A young Olivier Giroud was initially attracted to football through French and Dutch legends Zinedine Zidane and Marco van Basten. After being taken with football he joined his hometown club Olympique Club de Froges at age eight.
Five years later he joined his first professional club Grenoble where he trained until he turned 19 when he signed his first professional contract. In his first season after having signed for Grenoble and being promoted to the reserve squad (2005-06) he quickly proved to be an indispensable fixture in the starting XI scoring 15 goals in 15 matches in for the reserve team in Championnat de France Amateur 2 French football's 5th division.
He was promoted to the senior team the following year and made 18 appearances for Grenoble in the 2006-07 season scoring 8 goals in the process.
The next year, in a bid to gain valuable playing time at the age of 20, he was loaned out to Istres and would flourish under the tutelage of Istres manager Frederic Arpinon. Giroud made 33 appearances for Istres in the 2007-08 season scoring a total of 14 goals.
Upon his return to Grenoble, Giroud expected a bump in playing time due to his fine form in the preceding season however was mildly surprised to discover that newly appointed Grenoble manager Mehmed Bazdarevic had deemed him unworthy of a spot in the squad and had him transfer listed. He was purchased by Ligue 2 side, Tours. He would go on to make 44 appearances and score 24 goals with them.
RISE TO PROMINENCE:
He was later purchased by Ligue 2 side, Tours. He made 44 appearances for them and scored 24 goals. Two years later, as a result of his prolific scoring record, he was bought by Montpellier and loaned back to Tours for a year to further develop his game. His current statistics with Montpellier are 71 appearances and 33 goals.
Wiki: As a result of Giroud's performance and the team as a whole, Montpellier
topped the league table in November 2011.
In January 2012, Giroud was linked with a transfer to several clubs.
Montpellier's owner Louis Nicollin responded to the rumours on French radio station RTL and surprised many by deeming one club "not
big enough" for Giroud, while also declaring that the striker would cost
"at least €50 or €60 million".
Playing Style:
Giroud is known for his aerial dominance, poaching ability and ability to create chances. Standing tall at 1.92m he uses his height and strength to win aerial duels. He's also renowned for distance shooting winning two games through 90 minute shots scored outside of the penalty box.

He reminds me alot of Mario Gomez. He would be great addition to Arsenal squad but i dont think its going to happen or maybe if RVP decide to leave.

He could definitely be labelled a poacher but that would brush over the areas he excels in outside of close range finishing like his remarkable long distance shooting ability and his creative passing.

ok. i caught some glimpses of his dribbling and shooting ability in his highlight vids. i dont like evaluating players im not familiar with through highlight compilations. it works much better when you can see single game highlights of a player, but there weren't any i could find on him

Sina wrote:
Yeah but this year Giroud scored 25 goals and got 9 assists
The year before he got 14 goals and 3 assists
So there's a massive contrast while in Chamakh's last two seasons he had basically the same output
16 goals 7 assists
16 goals 2 assists
If you group the years together then yeah they look pretty similar but we're counting on this being Giroud's breakout year.

Re: Olivier Giroud
dude the fact that giroud has 250 shots on goal while chamakh has only 94, just says everything. chamakh problem is that he is too one dimensional, he is only good with the head and cant shoot. while gourid has got a shot and is good with both feet. all we want from gourid is to just whack the damn ball, jeez its not that hard being a striker for arsenal its frakking easy. people like chamakh just make it hard for themselves by being sooo poor on the ball and being afraid to shoot.
anyone can score as much goals as rvp did this season its not hard, heck even ade did it, and we all know how crap he was infront of goal. all you have to be is a competent shooter of the ball.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Just because Giroud comes from Ligue 1 doesn't mean he will be another Chamakh. They are quite different to each other. What's more, Giroud more impressive for his country.
Re: Olivier Giroud
Not exactly, he is more than just a poacher. He can create goals too.lenear1030 wrote:djoe26 wrote:He reminds me alot of Mario Gomez. He would be great addition to Arsenal squad but i dont think its going to happen or maybe if RVP decide to leave.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Montpellier boss Rene Girard has admitted that the Gunners are favorites to snap up the 25-year-old if Arsene Wenger can agree a deal.
"Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England, if Arsene agrees with the president, he will sign for them," he told French radio station RMC.

Re: Olivier Giroud
He is nothing like Mario Gomez, he has good technique and creates chances for others.
I highly doubt Giroud would join Arsenal to be 2nd fiddle to RVP though, he rejected Bayern because he didnt want to be 2nd fiddle to Gomez.
I think its more likely RVP leaves and Giroud replaces him and you buy an AM in addition to Giroud.
