Olivier Giroud Empty Olivier Giroud

Post by S Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:27 pm

Well there was a thread posted about him in Juve section.

So i thought of bringing it up in the general section since a no.of people like MrNick09 and RG watch Ligue 1 regularly.

Of the couple of videos i have seen of him,he seems to have great technique and a monster left foot, not sure about his speed though, although you cant derive much from videos(excuse me if i'm being a little ignorant here)..Ligue 1 fans and fans who have watched him,do you rate him highly ?

Well, I watched him in the France friendly against Germany and he looked pretty good there. There were some rumours that Bayern is interested in him for a reason, although I doubt he'd like to sign up to sit mainly on the bench.

Bayern will be the worst possible destination for him imo especially for an up and rising striker like him.I hope he doesnt choose them.

Anyways i need to scout him more to be really convinced that he would be a good choice for Juventus.

And France NT fans and people who watch France regularly is he a regular for NT or i mean could he claim or good enough for a starting berth in Euros ?.If so ,it would be a good time to catch a glimpse of him.

I like him a lot, he is a skilled big man with enough game not to feel isolated during a game. He moves very well for his size, i think he would surprise some with his agility and moves. More importantly, he makes very good runs and has been able to finish most of the opportunities his team created for him. He is very good in the air, not just for finishing but he plays a lot of lay offs as well when they are on counter. He also scores goals from all kind of positions, and different types of finishes as well. i think you can see that on youtube, volleys, one touch drive, long distance shots etc...

He scored a lot of important goals for Montpellier, it's interesting because they are in a title hunt and he keeps scoring. Not only that, but he has been in constant progression over the years, stepping up always. His rise has been slow, but definite, i dont think we are dealing with a one season wonder but a guy that will keep growing. I am trying to make the separation from some of the youngest CF to come out of france lately that didnt confirm, like Sow, Gignac, Chamakh or Gameiro. But thing is, he has been very consistent with his scoring, showing a good pattern overall.

I think he deserves a team that will play around him, i wouldnt want to see him ending up like Chamakh in a top club, but behind a world class CF. He is good, really, brings a complete package so he deserves his own team, may it be a step under the elite clubs, but he will shine brighter that way.

So Nick you are basically saying he is not an out and out CF ?

Of the videos of saw of him,he gives me an impression of Oscar Cardozo you know.Capable of playing Target Man ,good feet, great in the air and obviously a great left foot plus he has got this poacher instinct.I'm not sure if he can take on defenders though.

Anyways i got to know OM and Montpellier are playing today thankfully before the Dortmund-Bayern game so i'll watch them.

Well, think of Llorente, but with a lot more agility and speed. I have seen him trying to run past people with the ball, or fixing a defender in one on one, he can certainly do something, but he is no aguero either lol. Remember, he is a big man so he wont try those moves often, but he feels comfortable going wide to cross the ball in actually, he does it a lot this season, and he picked up 7 assists from his general play.

Thier captain and Centre Back M'biwa and playmaker Belhanda, both will move on to bigger clubs this summer i feel.

Rémy Cabella a midfielder with great ball control is very good too but i reckon he will stay.

He is probably the 2nd best French striker after Benzema. Although they are very different players

Giroud is a Classic No 9 with Modern Attributes. His link up play is amazing, can score with either foot, decent first touch on him and he is a very very clinical finisher, his heading ability is excellent as well.

Think he has a release clause of 13m, Not sure but he is supposed to be Arsenal bound.

His emergence was akin to that of Andre-Pierre Gignac a few years back and we all know what happened to him.

To Giroud's credit, he's far more of a complete forward and I honestly think he's going to be a top talent for France. Only a matter of time before Montpelier lose him.

thats what i am worried about as well mclewis, Gignac was fantastic for Toulouse as well.

It's a gamble and that is why Wenger won't pay more than 15m if we do get him.

That's the real question, but like i said, he is less of a risk factor to me because he had some nice scoring seasons with his previous teams. He made a name for himself in D2, and then in D1, scored some last year, and he is blossoming now.

Gignac however, just shot through the roof in one year, then after that it wasn't so glorious.

I dont think he would fuss much if Juventus gives him a job.

@Mole, Jovetic+Giroud would be a brilliant proposition.

This report disagrees with you.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2012/03/01/2938675/montpelliers-giroud-admits-interest-in-serie-a-switch

Like Nick said he wont have any qualms on joining any Serie A team in this case Juventus for example if we bid for him.

If his price tag is under 20m Juve would not have any worries in bidding for him. That price tag is not too steep. His asking fee could also shoot up if he performs in Euros

That is why i wanna know if he will be claim a starting spot for France NT come the euros..

I think OM-Montpellier game is about start now..Good time to watch him play.

I do question whether he would start tho, Benzema's spot is more nailed on than Wolves relegation Laughing

For him to start, Benzema would have to play outwide or as a #10 and i find both quite unlikely.
