Re: Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud is close to agreeing a move to Arsenal, according to L'Equipe. €12m transfer could be completed by the end of this week. Wenger made his move at weekend. Arsenal offering less than QPR but Giroud not afraid of RVP competition and has heart set on Arsenal.

He should be up to the challenge for giving RvP competition if all the hype surrounding him is worth anything to go by. Plus Arsenal and QPR are not even in the same level to merit a comparison. He is replacing Chamakh in the squad - simple as that.

he will play, RVP will burn out by mid season if he plays all games due to playing all year round and euro's plus knowing his injury history Wenger will play him less knowing he has another goalscorer. Wenger had to risk RVP last season as our backups weren't performing
we are gonna play atleast 50-60 games next season, Giroud will probably start in 15-25 of those with 10-20 subs, he should easily play atleast 30 games next season

Re: Olivier Giroud
He's not a poacher. Very technical player. He's used as a target because he's tall and strong. But he's perfect capable of going outside and linking up... showed that plenty at Montpellier. Just watch the game winning assist he had against Lille on the second to last day of Ligue 1 in stoppage time... plenty of speed and awareness:

According to L'Equipe: He will be van Persie's successor when van Persie leaves after the next season on free. Basically we will have both next year. If this is true I'd consider this a successful transfer campaign. If M'Vila joins too after the Euros I'd consider this a fantastic transfer campaign

Well if we have RVP, Podolski, Giroud and M'Vila ... we'd probably win something, then RVP would stay .urbaNRoots wrote:http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Giroud-futur-gunner/290920

Giroud to Arsenal almost done. Announcement this week, not a replacement for RvP. Story across BBC soon.

Re: Olivier Giroud
How are we signing a player who is at the euros? We are announcing a deal before the player actually signs it? Or is it possible for a player to sign when physically not in London?

Re: Olivier Giroud
Is this really happening?
Are we signing two very, very talented World Class players this early in the transfer season after all the brouhaha that happened last season...?
This itself seems to me like a trophy,Signing WC players

Giroud and Podolski are like new signings. Re-signing RVP would be like a trophy.

I guarantee this wont be settled until the Euros are over. You know how we are with the 'PAPERWORK' at Arsenal lol.

Re: Olivier Giroud
hmm just get the deal done already because im really anxious to see what happens next. This can not be our last signing, we really do need a dm as the end of last season showed. and possibly we need a AM aswell because wilshere might not come back ready and on form.
we need two more players:
AM
DM
we might also need a young versatile defender to cover at rb too, as i am not sure how sagna will return. moreover, i simply dont trust jenkinson.
but of course we need to sell players aswell:
bendy; 9mill (having a great euro's )
vela: 5mill
squallaci: 1mill
park: 3mill
chamakh:7mill
djourou: 4mill
total: 29mill??

Re: Olivier Giroud
Hey, for our standards this deal is being done really quickly. We're 14 days into the window and pretty much have two good players in already. Still plenty of time to secure a couple more, and hopefully sort out the futures of certain players.
I'm reaonably optimistic at the moment.

Feeling the same here. Talk in France, and at the BBC is that Van Persie will not be sold, and that Giroud will arrive to play alongside him, rather than replace him.
Reassuring, yet Wenger said Nasri and Cesc would stay last summer, so can't rely on anyone at this stage, really.
Re: Olivier Giroud
REWB, Jay, Sam - I share your sentiments. But despite all these positive signs, something makes me want to be weary about this till it is on the official websites of either club.. I am not sure how a player involved in Euros is being signed even when he isn't physically in London - is that possible with Arsenal?
And either way, what I really want going into next season is the futures of Song, RvP and Theo sorted. Getting rid of fringe players is one thing - but getting our stars to commit is a higher priority for me. We should not go into next season knowing full well that (if RvP is staying the last year of his contract) our captain is leaving at the end of the season. It would lead to a lack of morale and commitment from the team. We need mental strength, not these thoughts bleeding our conscience.
