Former Player: Toni Kroos

Watch this video and try and vision yourself in the stadium and you are watching Toni Kroos for the first time, do you think you will consider him an attacking midfielder or a Central Midfielder. I think to me Toni Kroos is a false defensive midfielder, he operates mostly at the back, behind Schweini and Gustavo but in the line-up it looks like he's playing as attacking Midfielder but whereas in fact he is actually playing as extra DM.

He isn't a defensive midfielder at all.

I guess you didn't watch the video, Madrid fans will have a lot more to say regarding this. they played against 3 defensive Midfielders, and they didn't just know it.

Ryan Bertrand played in the CL final as a winger, Does that make him a winger? He also recently scored a goal, does that make him a CF?

No, It makes him versatile. There is a difference, Kroos is an AM who can play more than one position. I am a fan of his from way back.

He is not a DM.

You guys don't know him as much as me, first of all he's not that MUCH of an attacking midfielder any-more, you used to know him in his youth days, there was a time he played as left winger, so should we consider him a left winger.

Most Bayern fans consider Kroos as CM/DM, I bet they know more of him, you simply have to go to forums like Bayernzone.


In anycase I only ask you guys to pass you judgement based on the video I posted but it seems like no one watched it, everyone wants to act like they are smart.

That's what you don't get, in the formation it looks like he play as AM but in reality he is a 3rd midfielder inter-changing with Schweini and Gustavo.

I just can't decide if you and the Messi fan make this forum that much better or worse

Personally, i think that Kroos can play each of those positions: CAM, CM, CDM.Jupp Heynckes realised this and made a formation that gives him enough liberty to cover all of those 3 positions during a match.

And about that vid.Maybe in that game, Kroos was used in a more defensive position because that was the tactic.But i also saw him playing more offensive.He adapts well.

I can see from your post that you actually did read what I posted, it's always relieving to know posters that pay attention to details as much as you, are still around. Not the ones who read the tittle of the thread and just dismisses the thread or ideal straight away.

Yes and this is an evidence why he's truly the perfect false 8, he has become expert in that aspect.

You can see how he always come from deep, to springs attacks, he can play behind Oezil, if he's truly a natural AM why would he be able to play behind Muller and Oezil easily...?

You can see some people in Goallegacy lack football knowledge, but are quick to pass their point through, many Bayern fans consider him as holding midfielder and want him to develop in that position.

Why are we making new terms? Why say "False DM"? Why not call him a German Regista, or a deep lying playmaker.

I suppose your reasoning was that he may have started above Schweinsteiger and Gustavo (I don't know, because I didn't actually watch the match), and only came deep to receive the ball. It's not really a revolutionary concept, it's just an AM dropping deep to get on the ball and start the attack. It looks as though Bayern want attacks to start through Kroos, which seems odd to me as Schweinsteiger is more than capable of starting moves and distributing the ball. If anything, it's removing an attacking player from the picture. To me, it doesn't seem much different than when Gerrard drops deep to receive the ball and start the attack for LFC. It's not necessarily a good thing, as it removes one of those attacking options from a good attacking position. It's much better to have a Pirlo style regista who can distribute the ball, and allow the attacking players to maintain their positions. That just my opinion, though.

He played as a CAM(No.10).

But he dropped too deep & became a CM reducing the formation to a 4-3-3 odd. He does not have the operational speed to play CAM or the quick thinking part.

As a DM Kroos is Garbage & cant defend to save his life. He in the future will be the World's Best CM & he is still pretty good but he at present does not have the defensive capabilities to play CM against top teams forget DM.

That is why he needs to paired with a pure destroyed like Gus & have a Schweni to add extra support.

It takes CM's like 25-26 to fully mature & grow up. Kroos is in the same stage as Schweni probably furthur ahead. 1 Season back he could not defend. Now he can defend quite a bit.

IN say 2 years I think he will improve furthur & become a complete CM. For now he is a cross between a CAM & a CM who is on his way to become a World Class CM.

This is just a magnificent player


Kroos is way better than Ozil, Loew isn't so much a good coach.

Kroos is the better player though, you simply have to look at the limited he had but still did damage. Low must drop Ozil in favor of Kroos and Drop Podolski in favor of Reus. That's the only way Germany can win trophies.
