In the end of May 2012, the Swiss NT will play two friendlies, the first in Basel at May 26 against the German NT and in Luzern at May 30 against Romania. For the German NT, the match will be part of the preparation for the Euro 2012, but as things stand, Löw will omit the Bayern players from his squad as they need some recovery time after the CL final plus the friendly match of Bayern against the Dutch NT on May 22.

Re: Swiss NT
Barnetta what a goat ripped Germany to pieces and he's on a free this summer.
Someone will get a major bargain, i hope we go back in for him.
BTW it gives me great pride that the first 3 goals were created and scored by 2 players that we tracked for the last 3 years

Re: Swiss NT
Only problem is that Derdiyok is pretty much off-form atm and Djourou and Tranquillo spent most of the last time on the bench.
I hope that Hitzfeld will manage to get them in shape so that they will win their qualifiers.
This group won't be easy, but it should be manageable for Switzerland IMO.

Re: Swiss NT
Well, Shaq's problem is that he has Ribéry, Robben & Müller in front of him. Nonetheless he already had some playing time and could show some of his talent for Bayern, too. As for Granit Shaka, well, unfortunately it looks as if he still hasn't fully arrived in M'gladbach.boss wrote:hmmm Shaqiri & Especially Xhaka are playing oftentimes with Swiss NT than their current clubs ! imo ...lol

Re: Swiss NT
Tunisia - Switzerland 1:2 (0:1)
Tunisia: Mathlouthi; Bédoui, Chams, Abdennour (58. Souissi), Gharbi; Ben Yahia, Hammami (70. Belaid); Oueslati, Darragi, Jemâa (54. Zouheir Dhaouadi); Harbaoui (68. Ben Youssef).
Switzerland: Sommer; Lichtsteiner (46. Rodriguez), Djourou, Klose (68. Von Bergen), Ziegler; Dzemaili (46. Behrami), Inler (46. Fernandes); Shaqiri, Xhaka (72. Ben Khalifa), Barnetta (84. Hajrovic); Derdiyok.
Goals:
40.) 0:1 - Eren Derdiyok (FK Tranquillo Barnetta)
59.) 1:1 - Zouheir Dhaouadi
90+6.) 1:2 - Xherdan Shaqiri
Well, the match started rather slow, but towards the end it was almost watchable for a friendly... Pity that Yann Sommer didn't look so good for the Tunisian goal (he obviously miscalculated the ball's trajectory), but other than that he guarded his goal very well.
Interviews with Yann Sommer, Ottmar Hitzfeld etc: http://www.sport.sf.tv/Nachrichten/Archiv/2012/11/14/Fussball/Hitzfeld-Die-Mannschaft-wurde-belohnt

Re: Swiss NT
In the Greece friendly, Ottmar Hitzfeld will not start his customary Nr.1 Diego Benaglio as the Wolfsburg keeper is suspended for the World Cup qualifier against Cyprus in March, but he will start either veteran Nr.2 Marco Wölfli of BSC Young Boys or young and upcoming keeper Yann Sommer of FC Basel. It is expected that Hitzfeld will choose the GK tomorrow who will also start for the Cyprus match.
I just had to find a reason to post a fresh pic of Yann Sommer

Swiss NT Call-up for the World Cup Qualifier against Cyprus on Mar 23, 2013:
Goal: Marco Wölfli (YB), Yann Sommer (Basel).
Defense: Johann Djourou (Hannover), Timm Klose (Nürnberg), Stephan Lichtsteiner (Juventus), Ricardo Rodriguez (Wolfsburg), Philippe Senderos (Fulham), Steve von Bergen (Palermo), Reto Ziegler (Fenerbahce).
Midfield/Attack: Granit Xhaka (Gladbach), Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern München), Gökhan Inler (Napoli), Valon Behrami (Napoli), Blerim Dzemaili (Napoli), Tranquillo Barnetta (Schalke), Innocent Emeghara (Siena), Pirmin Schwegler (Frankfurt), Valentin Stocker (Basel), Admir Mehmedi (Kiew), Eren Derdiyok (Hoffenheim), Haris Seferovic (Novara), Gelson Fernandes (Sion).
On Stand-by: Josip Drmic (Zürich), Roman Bürki (Goal/GC).
Ottmar Hitzfeld is still secretive about whom he wants to put between the sticks for the Swiss NT, but if he watched the match of Basel vs Zenit, there should be no doubt that Yann Sommer is the right choice as stand-in for the suspended Diego Benaglio.
