Re: Swiss NT
Yann Sommer and Stephan Lichtsteiner were sent back to their clubs already and won't take part in the friendly against Poland on Tuesday.
Vladimir Petkovic decided they should better get some proper rest as Sommer already had 23 matches over the full distance this season with Gladbach and the NT and Lichtsteiner had 19 matches with Juventus and the NT.
"Let's go home - coach said we were due some days of rest!"

Re: Swiss NT
International Friendly - Poland vs Switzerland
Poland: Boruc; Olkowski; Cionek, Glik, Jedrzejczyk; Krychowiak, Jodlowiec, Kucharczyk, ZIelinski, Rybus; Lewandowski.
Switzerland: Bürki; Lang, Schär, Von Bergen, Moubandje; Gelson, Inler, Kasami; Shaqiri, Stocker, Drmic.
Goals:
4.) 0:1 - Josip Drmic (assist by Xherdan Shaqiri)
Roman Bürki is doing really well in the Swiss goal so far! By now the third save already after 27 minutes!
45+1.) 1:1 - Artur Jedrzejczyk
Uh-oh. In the 60th minute, Roman Bürki did one of his infamous kung-fu kicks and hit Robert Lewandowki at the head. Fortunately there was no injury to Lewandowski, but Bürki got a well-earned yellow that might even have been a red if the referee would have been more serious. And the following beautiful free-kick ended in the net...
61.) 2:1 - Arkadiusz Milik
87.) 2:2 - Fabian Frei (assist by Haris Seferovic)
FT - Poland 2:2 Switzerland

Well, it makes sense to rest some of the guys. Imagine, Yann Sommer already played 23 (!) competitive matches this season since mid-August! (As comparison, Roman Bürki only had 13 competitive matches so far.)

Re: Swiss NT
Well, 80 minutes, Switzerland played abysmally bad. Suddenly, in the 80th minute, something exploded and Josip Drmic scored a brace and Vale Stocker scored another one inbetween. The first Drmic goal was a beauty, by the way.
Yann Sommer had no chance with any of the goals against (first Fabian Schär decided to complain to the ref because of a perceived foul, and in the meantime, his opponent overran him and gave the assist to the totally free standing Novakovic, and with the other goal, Timm Klose lost his opponent and he was completely free to score), and he even managed 3 wonderful saves or Switzerland would have been completely steamrolled.
Oh, and Samir Handanovic had a great game, too, despite the 3 goals - he did make same wonderful saves, too.

Unfortunately there is a dearth of good fullbacks everywhere, and neither Stephan Lichtsteiner nor the other option on RB, Silvan Widmer are really convincing for Switzerland.

Re: Swiss NT
Problem is that he got the captain's armband yesterday and spent far more time lamenting to the ref than playing.RealGunner wrote:surprised to hear that about Lichtsteiner. He is quite solid in general
(This was a disease by which Valentin Stocker caused the first goal, too. Ilicevic ran along on the wing and Stocker thought he handled the ball to control it and started to slow down and signal to the ref, while Ilicevic just ran on. The ref thought (rightfully) there was nothing, and then Ilicevic was already in front and could cross to the totally free Novakovic - and boom! Goal!)

Re: Swiss NT
In fairness, Lichtsteiner has always spent an unusual amount of time complaining to referees. It's why he's so entertaining to watch. No matter what, you know there will be off the ball entertainment.
Vucinic is the only player I've ever seen who spends a comparable amount of time annoying the officials.
