I feel the

Oier
Balliu/Just- Gomez - Lomban - Grimaldo
Roberto - Ilie - Rafinha
Deulofeu - Dongou - Tello

Would like that to be the team for the Mini classico unless Tello/Roberto are called up for first team. Then I think Espinosa and Kiko drop in.

Anyone seen any of Agostinho Ca? I haven't yet. Hoping he'll win the DM spot and be good there.

Would like to see Araujo and Luis Alberto a bit more too as well as Juste the new RB. I think these guys can maybe win over their positions.

Interested to see Edgar Ie when he's back too.

Maybe by end of the season:

Oier
Juste Gomez Lomban Grimaldo
Agostinho
Roberto Rafinha
Araujo Dongou Deulofeu

I haven't watched Juste, but I doubt he will be able to displace Balliu. Balliu is doing very well for the B. Same with Planas and Grimaldo, although it's obvious that Grimaldo will be given playing time for his condition of wonderkid, but Planas is probably quite better than him currently.

Gerard Deulofeu, his own worst enemy
Posted at: 08:00 on Monday, September 3, 2012 Category: Opinion Pieces, Youth Written by: Alexandra
Gerard Deulofeu, his own worst enemy

Gerard Deulofeu has been one of Barça’s most talked about youth players for a long time. He was only 9 years old when he was featured in an interview on television for the first time. He was 14 years old when he was dubbed ’the new Ronaldinho’, the next wonder kid at La Masia, and this is also when the top English clubs started to fight over who could land this Barça talent at their club. The hype hasn’t stopped. This summer he helped Spain secure the U-19 European Championship title without a problem. He was there to help the youngsters on the team, though he himself was only 18 years old. Last season also marked his debut with the first team, meaning that the expectations and talk about Gerard Deulofeu that has existed since he was 14 years old has blown up even more. He has already featured on the covers of the major sport papers in Barcelona more than once, and now, instead of calling him the new Ronaldinho, people are calling him a future Ballon d’Or winner.

There is no doubt that Deulofeu has a very special talent and that he could win the Ballon d’Or one day. But he has a problem, a problem that in my eyes is very big: he believes he is the best already. It’s not unusual for a player that since childhood has been dubbed a wonder kid to get ahead of himself and believe that he is ready, even if there is still a long way to go. There are so many cases of players labelled as future stars who fail and end up playing in lower teams instead of becoming the very best. This is something I’m very afraid of seeing happen to Deulofeu, and lately, instead of proving me wrong he is starting to prove me right.

Gerard is one of the players at Barça I’ve been following the longest. I started watching videos of his incredible skills on YouTube when he was 14 years old, and I’ve followed him on and off ever since. For me, it’s always been a certainty that he would make it to the top level because he has that amazing thing, a special talent. Over the years he has shown quite a substantial ego, and he has named Madrid’s star player Cristiano Ronaldo as a role model. There’s nothing wrong with his choice of role model, Ronaldo is an amazing footballer, and sometimes you have to be egoistical to succeed. However, it is harder to make it at the highest levels if you go alone rather than with your teammates. I’ve always been sure that Gerard, being at the best school of humility – La Masia, would come around and become more humble and more of a team player. I’m not too sure anymore. Watching him the last few seasons and during the summer’s U-19 Championship, I’ve only seen a boy who is there to make it all on his own. Sometimes his skills help him and he succeeds in passing 4-5 players, but on the highest level, it won’t be that way. What will happen when he notices he can’t pass them all? I love the skills of Gerard Deulofeu, but I just can’t stand his attitude.

Being in Barcelona for a month now, I’ve noticed that many of the fans I talk to over here share the same feeling as me. They don’t like Gerard’s attitude. We become upset when he dribbles an opponent on the pitch and will come back to the player in question and ask if he wants an autograph as well. It’s that kind of self love I can’t stand. I really hope he will change. If nine years at La Masia have not been able to change his attitude, I’m not sure anything will be able to do so in the future. Gerard Deulofeu is an amazing football player and he can go as far as possible, but he is his own worst enemy. If he keeps on this path of always going solo with the same cocky attitude, it will be Deulofeu alone that prevents himself from becoming the best in the world one day.

How accurate would you call this article? I mean obviously it's subjective but do you guys think his pessimism is well substantiated?

Watched B game yesterday, they won 2-1 vs. Ponferradina. Luis Alberto and Lobato scored. We played:

Oier
Balliu - Lomban - Carles Planas - Grimaldo

Roberto - Ilie - Rafinha

Lobato - Luis Alberto - Femenia

I don't like Lobato very much but he had a great game. Best player yesterday. Rafinha was good, with many Iniesta cutting moves. This Luis Alberto guy has ability, but is too slow to play striker, he scored from a free kick in which the GK missed.

oh, i will if you want. I just forgot.

I'm watching the b vs las Palmas. Deulofeu just scored after a super one two with Luis Alberto. This guy is very talented, he is giving a killer balls show today. A pity he is so slow. perhaps he could become an awesome midfielder but he can't play as a forward.

we are playing with:

Oier
balliu lomban planas grimaldo
lobato ilie rafinha
dongou Luis Alberto Deulofeu

Second half was very bad because the pitch was inundated. it was unplayable except for rafinha who seems to be a great water Polo player. :-P

Watched until las Palmas tied in 75. A pity cause we dominated most of the game.
will post highlights on Monday.

Dongou couldn't do much. He played almost all game in the wings where he offers very little. Did a good play in the second half when he cut in and gave a good pass to Deulofeu.

Here is an excellent article on learning football in La Masia. Its an Australian journalist who went to watch some 6-7 year old teams train and play. Really interesting.

'Junior Lessons from Barca'
PART 1 :
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/craig-foster/blog/1122269/Junior-lessons-from-Barca-Part-1?_nocache=1
PART 2:
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/craig-foster/blog/1122271/Junior-lessons-from-Barca-Part-2/?_nocache=1

Btw... the part where he says Catalans and Australians have a sort of simpatico and Barcelona feels like home to a Sydneysider is so true... Its really weird but you won't go somewhere that feels more like Sydney than Barcelona... Both beautiful harbour cities with a very similar feel.

Nice article. When I coached a kid's team I tried to follow these guides, however, it's very difficult to always keep your cool and never shout at the kids our give them only positive messages when they lose. Sometimes they are soooo unfocused and pay so little attention.

I guess it's much easier with kids playing at Barça though: watching the games at Barça TV from our kids, you can see that aside from great technique, they are very disciplined, understand tactics and pay a lot of attention to the coach in mid time talks from a very young age.

I've not been to Sidney, but my sister lived there for a year and also says that it's "similar" to Barcelona. I suppose it's the weather, which is mediterranean at both places. Btw, It should be "Catalans have a "simpatía" for Aussies", not a "simpático". Simpatía = simpathy (noun). Simpático = simpathetic (adjective).

From my experience of youth coaching, I can understand free when he says how difficult it can be to remain positive and calm. I think personality is important and your level of patience.

I think I am naturally patient, so that helps. Finding something that they can relate to is very important which probably relates to what Free said about watching Barca TV.

Yeah, agree with all that.

Btw free. Simpatico is an English word lol.

simpatico |simˈpatiˌkō|
adjective
(of a person) likable and easy to get along with.
• having or characterized by shared attributes or interests; compatible : a simpatico relationship.

I know why you had the confusion but there's a little lesson for you Wink hehe

Ah, thanks had no idea. Why does he put it between inverted commas then?
Surely, it must come from the spanish word though?

Not sure... you're right, he should not have.

Yes, it would from Spanish. Just means you share character traits; are compatible; have a lot in common.

Deulofeu has been choosen as Euro U-19 best player over Jesé, who was the top scorer.
Don't know why they choose the best player so late, but I think it's deserved. I wathced a couple of games of that tournament and Deulofeu was the spark of that team and much better than their peers.
