Mertesacker 'glad' to have made Arsenal switch
The German defender has hailed his switch to the Emirates as the correct decision, whilst also explaining that Germany need to exhibit defensive unity if they are to win Euro 2012
Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has claimed that he is still happy with his decision to move from Werder Bremen to the Emirates last summer.
The German defender did admit that he was forced to rush the massive decision due to Arsenal's last-minute approach, yet despite this Mertesacker has insisted he is still delighted to have completed the move.
"I'm glad I made this step," he told reporters. "It came pretty sudden and I had to decide quickly. I was looking forward to a lot of things that came true. It was very important to me that my family feels well, and that is the case."
Mertesacker will represent Germany at Euro 2012 and is hoping the side can use their recent matches with Group B rivals Portugal, in particular, to their advantage in Ukraine and Poland.
"We had some encounters against Portugal," he said. "We'll try to avoid 1-to-1 situations. I think Portugal had very good individual players in the last years, also when we played against them. But we always responded as a team. We showed that we can confront the individual class as a team.
"We didn’t play often with the squad from 2010, but one could see in the past years, that we are able to replace players. It'll be important to defend as a team, so we don’t get in problems."
Germany have the youngest squad at the European Championship and Mertesacker insists what the squad lack for in experience they will make up for in talent.
"We will try to be confident and cope with the situation," he told Arsenal's official website. "We’re very young, but we have a very good squad and that makes us confident.
"We have so many young boys who played a good season in the Bundesliga, like Marco Reus or Mario Gotze. These players are very young, with high potential, and we want to see them in a good mood, and good shape, in the summer.
"We have learned a lot from our disappointments - we have always reached second or third place but we want to win trophies. There is a lack of this, but with a young generation [coming through] that is very good, we will try to reach our target now."

Arsenal XI set to face Boreham Wood in July
An Arsenal XI will take on Boreham Wood FC at Meadow Park on Saturday July 21, kick-off 3pm.
The friendly, a staple of the pre-season calendar for Arsenal’s younger players, will see a mixture of reserve and youth players test themselves against ex-Gunner Ian Allinson’s Conference South side.

Three giant portraits of Poland's star players now adorn one of Warsaw's tallest buildings, the Orco Tower.
The images of Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, captain Jakub Blaszczykowski and fellow Borussia Dortmund hotshot Robert Lewandowski can be seen from several places around the capital. The Euro 2012 co-hosts' stars were put onto the building by Nike's 'My Time Is Now' campaign, which in this instance was designed to bring the people of Poland and their team together.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Jamaica international Nigel Neita is delighted with his progress at Arsenal.
Neita's international call-up for Jamaica's friendly against Costa Rica in March came as a welcome surprise - and it is testament to the young forward that he has caught the eye.
The 18 year-old attacker is known for his pace and told arsenal.com: “I don’t think that you can be too fast. But sometimes having pure speed and doing everything at 100 miles per hour is counter-productive. You need to know when to slow your thinking and actions down, in order to be composed in front of goal and make the most of the positions that having pace can get you into.
"You also need to be able to mix it up and not just keep blasting down the wing."
So,a potential Neita V Campbell on the cards,I suppose...

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Stats don't mean everything but since Shava joined Zenit, he made 11 apps in all comps, scored 3, assisted 4 involved in a goal every 153 mins. Compare to someone like Theo who made 46 apps, scored 11, and assisted 13, involved in a goal every 191 mins. Round the same i reckon. These are my own calculations btw so they could be wrong....

Keep in mind though that he's playing in Russia in his natural position whereas Theo is playing on the wing in the EPL. I've always been a fan of trying Arsha centrally as he's been brilliant there.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Yes true but imo, i don't believe that right now Theo can do better in a striker role than he can as a winger. That's what i believe. Also shava said he'd like to stay here after his loan ends but this was quite a while back. I would like him to stay if he can play centrally. Although with Wilshere returning soon there might not be any room for him in the middle....MJGunner wrote:The Verminator wrote:Stats don't mean everything but since Shava joined Zenit, he made 11 apps in all comps, scored 3, assisted 4 involved in a goal every 153 mins. Arshavin has lost it, we should just sell him before it's late and move on. I expect Arsenal to not have problems selling Arshavin, Bendtner and Vela (hope he wont get sold) atm.

One of them is coming off the back of a good season, while the other two can help their cases with a good Euro showing, even though wages are the stumbling block we face when trying to move on any of our players. Here is hoping to the best.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Dude i'm gonna be so p***** off if RVP leaves. Look every player has a right to leave Arsenal. Whether they're not getting playing time, or just don't fit in the system, or just want to leave for somewhere else, it's fine. But i sort of see some resemblence in this to the Nasri situation.Nasri had half a good season, and he got a big head, and went to Man City where they will pay him more. RVP's stayed with us for 8 years i think, but he was sooooooo injury prone its not even funny. Injured so often, but this season managed to stay injury free, had a fantastic season, and now wants greener pastures. IMO, he should be loyal to the club that let him stay there despite all his injuries, and payed his wages for playing like 5 games a season.
On the flip side, maybe he woulda left even if he had been injured this whole season too, and in addition, he doesn't have many years left of top flight football (i mean as in him still being very good every season). So in that sense you could see why he wants to go somewhere and get a trophy.
But the only thing that ticks me off, is if he is leaving after having 1 fantastic season, getting a big head and going somewhere else. But i don't really know so i can't say. He will always be my favourite player though. Or maybe Rosicky will overtake him

M'Vila, Dempsey, Capoue, Holtby and Belhanda. I took Belhanda since MJ did Giroud perfectly.
