Falcao

No one really seems to talk about Falcao because he plays for a "second-tier" team. People drool over Gomez, but not many really appreciate how good Falcao is. For the record, I dont want to undermine a brilliant player that Gomez is, but I sincerely think Falcao is on that level if not better. His goalscoring consistency is as good or better than almost all other strikers (apart from Ron/Messi).

I think he is comfortably the best player in La liga that doesnt play in Real or Barca. Yes, I think he is better than Soldado, Lorente etc.

Here is his stat:

This year: League: 24 games, 19 goals. Europa: 10 games, 6 goals.


In his last two seasons, he scored 72 goals in 87 games for Porto. Last year, he scored 18 goals in 16 Europa league games.

I want to hear what other people think about Falcao. He just seems so under appreciated here. I know we paid a lot for him, but he is well worth the money. He has turned out to be our star player and a big performer in a relatively inferior team.

Brilliant player. I like to watch Atleti now, I rate them highly and he's always good to watch. I agree that he's probably better than Gomez, Soldado and Llorente in many ways. Has made the change easily, which is a sign of huge class.

I think there are a number of World Class strikers playing at slightly smaller teams that are better than big team strikers: Falcao, Soldado, Cavani, Llorente...

Falcao is good, all the time I watch atletico he scores atleast once. New club, new league and still deliver like he did for Porto no doubt he is class.

No surprise. The best penalty box striker there is.

I had him picked for 3rd top scorer in the league this season, he's still on for it.

I think we talked a lot about Falcao and Soldado in the first weeks of the season if I remember right, it's just that nothing has changed: Soldado and Falcao are still excellent, their teams just aren't involved in much controversy or excitement IMHO.

Gomez plays for Bayern who oscillate between losing to effing Basel, and thrashing effing Basel, Benz and Higuain play for Real so they're talked about by default and I think Milan being that good this season still surprises at least some people, so that's exposure for Ibrahimovic right there.

It's not that we don't rate Falcao, I just don't have anything to say about him except "good striker. Would do well in most teams."

A shame he plays for Atletico.

I agree, not worth 40m because at the end of the day he is practically just a finisher of chances. Porto got a good deal, but he is fantastic at what he does.

Given the right service, he puts the ball in the back of the net. Dont mind paying 40 mill for that!

For 40m, you might be able to get someone who cant create, disabilize the defence and score goals at a fairly high rate.

If you need that of course, they did not.

I get what you are saying. I agree that Porto got an excellent deal and that 40 million is too much for him.

But, if i were the one making the decision to buy him, given his scoring rate, i will most probably spend as much.

If I hypothetically needed a player of his kind, he would be at the top of the list and if 40m is what it costs, then you probably would do it because whoever else you name close to that level isnt going to cost much less, if any less at all.

And i really hope Atleti grows as a club. They have real potential with some great players who could be one of the potential clubs to challenge Barcelona and Madrid for the top spot. Regularly finishing in the top 4 will help them a lot in that regard.

They have all the ingredients to be a "top-tier" club, Falco being one of them.

It actually seems like some of you do rate him, that is very nice to see. I have realized I shouldn't generalize the forum based on the chat but that was the impression I got when people were talking about how average Falcao was.

I didnt mind paying 40mil for him. Players like Caroll/Torres all costs similar amounts which shows the inflated prices of players nowadays. Buying Falcao showed intention that we want to challange in the near future. I really think that after we finish our new stadium, we will be in better shape to challange Real and Barca.

Madrid fans on the chat + Atleti player + better version of Higuain (yes I said it) = Falcao is crap

Nah i do think Falcao is a little better than Higuain, but not by much. His areal game gives him a little edge, and he has been known for scoring some acrobatic goals. Funny enough, when Higuain was rising at River, Falcao was the starting CF

And played under Diego Simeone for River too apparently.

Falcao plus Aguero. I long to see this.

Big fan of Radamel, I would love to see him in the champions league and playing for a top team.

I definitely think so. I have heard rumors about getting Griezman, who I wouldn't mind (even though he hasnt been in best form this season). I expect Atletico to spend around 30mil next season which would be good enough to challenge for top 4 next season.

We were the second biggest spender last season in Spain with around 70mil spent (on Falcao, Arda, Adrian etc)

Plus, Atletico is a good european team. It will be a bonus for La liga.

We need a sign a star player like Hazard (even though it is unlikely) etc to really show our intent. Because we do lack quality in our midfield/attakcing positions. We might win Europa, so that would help our cause. Not financially, but it will give the board reasons to invest a lot of money.

Would have been legit in Madrid.

To be fair I would like to see Atletico strengthen their squad instead of selling top players and replacing them.

If they do this next season I will follow them more often.
