Damn. Unbelievable.
I really hope one of our strikers (Bacca,Martinez, Muriel, Teo, Ibarbo, Ramos) can step up.

Not sure which out of those are actually gonna go to Brazil

WC is 5 months away. This is a 6-8 month injury usually. 5 months is highly unlikely, but not impossible.

New update: Monaco say lesion to ACL, not full tear.

Still hope

Well, whatever it is. Even if Falcao comes to the WC, he won't be at full fitness and might even put himself at risk.

I have to question that report because he's going into surgery...  you don't perform surgery unless there's a full tear of the ACL.  Otherwise, it's 2 months rest and rehab for partial as you need the tendon to heal and stabilize.

Operating for a "lesion" or "partial tear" makes absolutely no sense.

Hope i'm wrong though.

Still some hope. He is 27, this may be his last chance to shine at the world stage. Hopefully he does recover.

I think he'll get another shot. His game is not about speed. It's about great runs, being clever and lethal finishing. If he relied on speed and/or athleticism, i'd agree.

This reminds me of Ronaldo heading into 2002 World Cup.. hopefully Falcao can do the same by defying the odds and getting fit in time for Colombia.

Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has not given up hope of featuring at the World Cup despite suffering a serious knee injury.

The Colombia international was carried from the field on a stretcher during the Ligue 1 club's 3-0 triumph over Monts d'Or Azergues in the Coupe de France on Wednesday.

Monaco confirmed on Thursday that their record signing will undergo surgery after scans revealed he had damaged the anterior cruciate in his left knee.

The 27-year-old's hopes of playing at the World Cup in Brazil later this year would appear to be over, but Falcao is retaining hope of appearing at the tournament.

"I want to thank all of you for your messages in the last hours," he wrote on social networking site Twitter.

"I have been touched by all the support and love of all the people around the world.

"I am not going to hide that I am very sad. My heart is destroyed. But I have faith (that I am) holding right now to keep my dream alive to be at the World Cup.

"God makes the impossible possible. I believe in Him."

There is still an outside possibility of Radamel Falcao making it to World Cup 2014, according to the Monaco striker's surgeon.

The Colombian, 27, suffered cruciate ligament damage on Wednesday and his injury means that an appearance in Brazil in the summer looked impossible.

However, though surgeon Jose Carlos Noronha admits that the odds are stacked against the former Atletico Madrid forward, he thinks that Falcao has a slight chance of making the international tournament's finals.

"It will be difficult. There are only five months before the tournament," conceded the doctor in an interview with RMC Sport.

"Ideally we'd have seven or eight months in these cases but we will see how the situation evolves.

"Falcao is a top athlete. He has a good physical condition so we can hope, even if we are aware that time will not play in our favour.

"He will give everything to recover. He has the mindset and the ability to get a good result. He still believes he can make the World Cup, he has not given up."

Radamel Falcao's surgeon Jose Carlos Noronha has revealed that the striker could be ready to play by the end of May.

The Colombia international injured knee ligaments early in the New Year playing for Monaco and had surgery in late January.

The recovery can take anywhere from four to six months, but that time-scale has been crucial to Falcao and his hopes of playing in his first World Cup finals this summer.

Six months out would mean Falcao could not play in Brazil, but four months' recovery time, as is now the hope, would mean he would be ready for the tournament.

Talking to Portuguese station Radio Renascenca, Noronha stated: "If the magnetic resonance imaging shows a darker aspect of the new ligament and an absence of inflammatory process around it, we will be able to let Falcao go on the pitch at the end of week 12.

"He could then resume jogging without big changing of direction or rough acceleration.

"Then, from the fourth month, he could be completely ready to play on the pitch, so would be ready for June 14 [Colombia's opening World Cup match with Greece]."

Falcao's agent thinks his client will go to the World Cup, however he won't be 100% at the start, according to L'Equipe.

Took a shit pen but my god, what an audacious chip on the 2nd goal

Seems to be reborn this season. 19 goals overall this season and he made the wise decision to reject big money this time round from the Chinese to stick with Monaco.

Happy for him tbh. As long he's playing , Monaco are always in with a chance to knock City out.

the belief you have to have in yourself to score like he did for the second goal after missing a penalty

might be my goal of the season tbh, new found respect for him too after rejecting a big money move to China because he knew he could get back to a WC level

so if he continues this form, he will be the only player i can remember who successfully beat the ACL injury curse and came back to become World Class ?

Is he as fast and agile as before though?

Many players come back after an ACL. The biggest example is Del Piero.

Always rated him, iirc he was rated the best striker when he scored 4 in the Euro final, not long after he suffered injuries and declined. He was a beast scoring tons of goals prior to that.

Watched him this game and realized how short he was only 5"11 I think, and wins header beating Stones who must be so much taller than him, and hes always done that, great ahead of the ball, getting into positions to score goals, he just has an instinct that top strikers have.
