In the league, where consistency matters Ramos wins hands down. He gives his all every match defensively, not to mention he is a big asset when it comes to set pieces as he is one of the best headers of the ball in Spain. A lot of crucial goals Barcelona conceded have simply been due to Piqué not playing at high intensity.

Now, on to bigger matches. I agree that Ramos gets raped my Messi almost every match. But he has improved this year under Mourinho. And frankly Piqué loses ball far more often in big occasions. Watch last clásico, Benzema's goal.

These are the videos I'd show Piqué if I was a coach:

Piqué brings the ball out from defence, suddenly stops in the middle of the pitch and either 1) Passes back 2) Passes to the wrong person and puts the receiver in pressure 3) Wastes posession
Communication errors
Piqúe getting far too relaxed. He needs a shout sometimes
Piqué doing a silly mistake and tops it off with fouling and receiving a card

No. Madrid have a bigger squad that is why they are so far ahead. You need your players 100 percent for every game not 95 percent or 97 percent. Only way to achieve that is with squad rotation and a big squad. Look at what Madrid got on the bench to what Barcelona have. Experienced world class footballers vs inexperience up and coming footballers

Regarding Messi rapes Ramos; tell me, which CB does Messi not rape?

Honestly? Do you judge the quality of a CB of how he handles Messi? If someone was capable of succesfully stopping Messi he would be the new Beckenbauer on crack ffs

Ramos has been the best CB in Spain this season, and top 5 in the world in my opinion. Messi raping him does not make him a bad defender. Messi raping any defender does not make any defender bad either.

Stop pretending all Ramos does is get raped by Messi, he has made numerous errors vs all types of players from us.

He makes errors with no pressure.

Finally, Barcelona are not behind because of Pique. What stupid rationale.

Don't count the mistakes from his time at RB.

He was terrible there vs. you. But he has been immense at CB, and it's his natural position so it's not really a surprise.

However, there were some clumsy mistakes where he slipped vs. you a few times. Seems like he loses his balance when he plays against Barca...

1- So does Piqué. This season he has been far more error-prone than than Ramos.

2- Not just because of Piqué. It is the consistency of the whole team that has cost Barcelona the league title but let's not devalue Madrid's efforts who are on track to break Barcelona's 99 point record and rewrite history books.

Fair enough he is a very good CB. But you can not play him and Pique together. Both like to dive into tackles. Puyol do not have that tendencies and that is why is always does a good job like keeping a guy like Ronaldo contained. Pique and Ramos will get murdered. Not a good idea

As far as the untouchable status, this is merely due to the fact that he has no competition, and we have no reserves to replace him with. We need to buy or promote a ball-playing CB that will actually play (ie: not Fontas or someone with a Fontas role) so that Pique actually has to compete for the spot. At the moment we cannot afford to sub him out because the partnership of Masche - Puyol/Abidal is quite bad, and Abidal will be leaving shortly. The best solution readily available is for Masche to try to imitate Puyol and inspire concentration out of Pique, he has the leadership skills to do so.

Vermaelen isn't going to be cheap and if we are splashing money I'd prefer it to be on an overall better player (than Vermaelen) or on a great talent like Sakho. I really wonder what he would cost.

Sakho is going to cost a lot more because of the Qatari owners PSG have, not to mention the fact that he is the club's captain. Also while I really like him, Ligue 1 is not really a great measure for a player's ability. At least Vermaelen is a tried and tested player in a top league. He is a good leader, his positioning is superb, his aerial presence is what Barcelona need and he can play the ball too. Anyone seen the screamers he shoots every now and then?

I suggested Vermaelen a while ago and I think he'd be an excellent option, but I can't see Wenger selling his best defender. Not unless we seriously overpaid for him and we wouldn't do that for someone who is going to be 3rd or 4th choice CB.

I see next year like this:
CBs: Mascherano (Puyol) - Pique (?)

What we need is somebody else who will push Pique for his spot, because the combination of Puyol and Masch isn't great and Pique's style is very important to our game. Either Pep believes a cantera player can do it, or he has to find someone else.
