Re: Dexter
Season 8 is just one fat episode of how badly Dexter wants Argentina.

Re: Dexter
Best show on TV my ass, this has been one of the worst finale seasons I've ever seen. Its unbelievable how quickly and badly this show dropped. Wasn't intrigued by the first 3 episodes but forced myself to watch it considering its the last season, and its been an absolute shit show
That Harrisson scene was embrassing. Maybe Showtime threw all their budget at Homeland

Re: Dexter
The problem with this final season has been that they have needed to write an ending to the whole thing. The "introduce one major adversary per season" formula was a winning one and you could write a lot of cool and suspenseful stuff in it. Now that they have to tie all the little stories together and come to a conclusion it's all gone bad and has a very forced feel to it.
- Spoiler:
- And using love (Dexter's love for Hannah McKay) as the main moving force for what's bringing this show to an end is a horrible, horrible decision. Feels as un-Dexter-like as anything can.

Re: Dexter
They could have had a hurricane happen where the bodies Dexter threw into the sea get washed to see and then the bay habour butcher case gets reopened. Or somehow they chip in that Matthews knew Dexter was a serial killer all along. Idk, just something. Anything other than this stupid love story angle they took.
They took a terrible path for the finale and then they couldn't even make it at least decent. So many flaws in their script, directing, etc. Just awful all round.

Re: Dexter
If I remember right the bodies Dexter dumps in the ocean get carried away to the Atlantic with streams.
I would have probably introduced another adversary who, shockingly, in the final episode would have gotten the better of Dexter, killing him.
Or have Dexter get caught, but saying he's innocent. Sentenced to life in prison, but in a year's time the same sort of people begin disappearing that Dexter used to kill. Then a message: "You have not caught me, sincerely, Bay Harbor Butcher". The cops would be going "wtf, maybe Dexter is innocent after all". And it would be Debra who has picked up on where Dexter left it. Partly finding that side in her and partly wanting to make it look like Dexter is innocent. And the final moment of the final scene of final episode would be Dexter walking out of a courthouse a free man, together with Debra.

Re: Dexter
The finale is tonight and I really think no one is going to be tuning in, with Breaking Bad pulling out a 75 minute episode, and the Emmy's also on.
Still sad to see a great show (seasons 1-5) end.

Re: Dexter
Just finished watching the finale and although you can't help feeling certain kind of satisfaction and sadness at a great TV show coming to an end, no, the last season nor the final episode were good. Shortly put: the whole thing got too soft.

Re: Dexter
This season and the finale tried to be a bit of everything:
- Spoiler:
- Debra's death the necessary drama and unhappy part of the ending, it couldn't all end up happily in a show like this. Clumsy.
The biggest facepalm was at Dexter's decision to drive his boat into the storm because "he hurt everyone he loved", but that was the serial killer Dexter and he was putting that behind him and about to start anew in Argentina with Hannah and Harrison. Such an irrational decision that made no sense whatsoever. The very last part of Dexter actually having survived and being a frigging lumberjack somewhere was truly lol-worthy. I mean wtf
Maybe they wanted to keep the option open to some time continue the show, which I doubt, but that as the final destiny for Dexter is the worst decision in any TV show that I can remember seeing. Laughable.
But as I said, it all got so boringly soft in the final season that I find it hard to believe. Dexter needed - and deserved - a dark ending. Something that made you go "oh fck" and somewhat sad. It was at its best when it was a dark show. Seems like I'm going on a bit of a rant here, lol. But the otherwise good show deserved so much better than this a-bit-of-everything bullshit that it's criminal.
And oh, yeah, on course of the show there were some truly fantastic adversaries with some great acting performances (Trinity!!). To have a lame Saxon as the main "baddie" in the final season with very little substance to him and not even properly featuring but in something like half of the shows and with some very boring acting was just another epic failure by the producers.
Fck, I probably have to watch some of the great Dexter episodes this week to make myself feel a little better about what was after all a sublime TV show xD

Re: Dexter
Think the finale was true to the Dexter style of ending things. He started this show relatively alone and he ended more alone than ever. I think that's the right way to go.
People going apeshit over this are overreacting honestly.

To me, they haven't stayed true to the character. At the very least I expect Dexter to make rational decisions, and nothing that happened at the end was rational. It's a bit frustrating. I can't say I would have expected a happy ending, but in my opinion, they could have done a better job creating a situation where it is inevitable.
The idea that Dexter would be so irrational contradicts pretty much everything I've been led to believe lol.

Re: Dexter
The ending was so random, poorly done IMO..
- Spoiler:
- I mean he just walked into a hospital and wheeled Deb out onto his boat like its nothing .. And knowing Saxxon was in the hospital just because of that dude spitting out blood, dafuq? Not to mentioned he survived driving his boat into a *bleep* Hurricane
The series had a lot of potential but didn't come close to reaching it.. *bleep* Hannah McCay btw!

Re: Dexter
- Spoiler:
- Watched the last two eps last night. And yeah, imo the finale wasn't great. Idk about suck but it wasn't good.
I actually would've been okay with the 'Dexter keeps himself away from his girl/kid to protect them from him' ending... if that was actually his personality.
The last 2-3 seasons his mindset is that he wants to be there for Harrison. It just didn't fit to me.
Also he no longer felt the need to kill. So what was he protecting them from? In Argentina no one would know who he is. He wouldn't be killing. So protect them from what?
Early on in the series, he had that mindset, but he went away from it. That's why it didn't really make sense to me personally.
edit: there's also the contradiction of keeping your child away from a murderer(Dexter), by placing him with another murderer. He would've been better off with Jamie.

Dexter was kind of special, but went to shit, really shit, in the last couple of seasons. Here's hoping they've got a good idea for revisiting it.

So glad they're bringing it back. The ending to season 8 left a lot to be desired but it also left lots of breathing room to continue the series in a new location. This show is in my top5 for sure
