Honestly it's not like we would offer him a coaching role unless he did acquire licenses to do so, since we do have more qualified personal in our departments to handle that

Whether he's a bonafide 'coach' or not is really immaterial. Anyone who thinks we're bringing him back just because we need a back-up striker and he happens to be available and free is crazy. José deals in psychology, and clearly thinks having Drog around the club, regardless his appellation, will be a positive and/or helpful influence.

If he wanted that kind of figure around the club, why didn't he just keep Lampard or Cole?

Suspect the both of them wanted to keep playing regularly and knew there would be no shortage of big contracts on offer overseas. Drog himself did that already and is probably now looking to settle down as he enters the next stage of his career in football - and on probably a significantly lower wage than he was before as I can't see the club signing him on for the kind of role he'll be occupying for that kind of money.

Frank Lampard is the same age as Drogba. I don't see why he'd be in a different boat.

There could be a variety of reasons.

Only difference is that Drogba played in China for a season, followed by Turkey. Not EPL but probably more gametime than Lamps saw.

Perhaps he feels closer to retiring, however, neither are vastly better than the other overall and both are old Mourinho disciples and big names to have in the dressing room.

I'm still unsure how this would end up tbh. It's hard to stay emotionless when we all agree that he left in the most poetic way. I'd never want that memory to be tarnished.
