Re: Arsenal Lobby
Tough Away Days
Much has been made of certain club’s poor records away from home in the Premier League, so we decided to investigate.
Analysing the scorelines of all top flight clubs from 2006-07 onwards, the results are quite clear…playing away is a struggle.
Eight established sides show a divide of away day success, while the other 24 teams who have graced the Premier League in the past 5 years all fail to boast an average of more than 1 point per away match (with the exception of QPR, who have 9 points from their 8 games away from Loftus Road this season, and Blackpool who did well in their only PL campaign).
The most successful side in recent years are Chelsea, who have claimed 199 points from 102 games, while there has been, perhaps surprisingly to many, success for both Aston Villa and Everton.
So, here’s a list of average points per game. How has your team performed?
Chelsea – 1.95 points per game
Manchester United – 1.91
Arsenal – 1.62
Liverpool – 1.47
Aston Villa – 1.33
Everton – 1.30
Manchester City – 1.18
Tottenham Hotspur – 1.18
QPR – 1.12
Blackpool – 1.00
Blackburn Rovers – 0.95
Portsmouth – 0.91
Newcastle United – 0.87
West Ham United – 0.84
Bolton Wanderers – 0.80
Wigan Athletic – 0.80
Reading – 0.79
Fulham – 0.76
Stoke City – 0.76
West Bromwich Albion – 0.73
Sunderland – 0.72
Wolverhampton Wanderers – 0.72
Hull City – 0.71
Norwich City – 0.71
Birmingham City – 0.68
Middlesbrough – 0.65
Sheffield United – 0.58
Watford – 0.53
Charlton Athletic – 0.42
Swansea City – 0.28
Burnley – 0.21
Derby County – 0.16

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Gunners, Blues eyeing strikers
ARSENAL and Chelsea could be forced to postpone their Premier League matches on Boxing Day.
A planned tube strike will cause chaos in London with Arsenal due to entertain Wolves and Chelsea hosting a derby clash with Fulham.
Talks between London Underground and union chiefs continue but the clubs must make a decision after consulting with police at the start of next week.
With no overground rail services — combined with parking restrictions for cars — a lack of services could make it incredibly difficult to reach the games with buses the only alternative.
Millwall's Championship game with Portsmouth would be among the other London games affected.

'You can tell by the goals I score that some of them come through pure willpower,' said Van Persie.
'You can tell by my face that the ball has to go in. I don't give a damn how.'

Re: Arsenal Lobby
on a tight game...
I think it was a game that could have gone both ways. It was very intense with both teams going for it and I feel as well that we were a bit unlucky. Their keeper had a good game and we were a bit unlucky with the fact that we had to reshuffle completely at the back in a position where we are already short - we paid too much for that.
Overall I did feel at half-time that we would win the game if we stayed stable at the back. We lacked a bit of accuracy with our final ball in the final third as well because we had a few opportunities where we didn't pass the ball well. But overall we had a very positive performance, great spirit, quality, but we lacked a little bit of what is vital in the big games.
on resources...
I must say we have four full backs out and the first injury we get in the game is a full back. It's not only down to resources, you cannot buy 17 full backs anyway. That is why I think we were a bit unlucky today.
on penalty claims against Richards...
Yes [I thought it was a penalty]. Honestly I haven't seen it but Van Persie is adamant it was a 100 per cent penalty.
on Van Persie's offside 'goal'...
I haven't seen it again but we know that these decisions can turn the game and they didn't go for us today. We were unlucky with the decisions but we have to take it on the chin.
on the title race...
Unfortunately for us it was a game that we couldn't afford to lose because it puts us too much [behind Man City]. If we had won the game we would have come back to six points and with players coming back like our full backs and Wilshere and Diaby - we will have a better squad in the second half of the season. At the moment we are too far behind.
on Chamakh and Arshavin...
You can only try and they tried. They had chances, I think Arshavin had two good chances, Chamakh had very little time to have an impact on the game. We played at the end with four strikers, Ramsey and Arteta in midfield, so you know that when you lose the ball you could be in trouble every time. But we still had the chances to score. Even Vermaelen, at the end, I thought the ball was in when he hit it twice, the free kick first and then the one he hit outside the box.
on closing the gap on City...
It will be difficult to close the gap but we will try. This is a game we couldn't afford to lose and that's why it's very difficult to take. On the other hand we will continue to fight, there is a lot of positives. The team has made a lot of progress since August and they can be proud of it. The team has a fantastic spirit, we have shown that again today, and let's hope we can continue our progress and get closer to City.
on encouraging signs...
It is encouraging but at the moment we need encouragement and points, and we got only encouragement.
on the transfer window...
We hope to have Wilshere and Diaby back so in midfield we have the numbers required. But at the moment we are short at the back and if Gervinho and Chamakh go to the Africa Cup of Nations we are short up front more than midfield.
on Djourou's injury...
It is a groin problem. Usually that is 21 days.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Premier League chief Richard Scudamore has revealed he has no sympathy for Arsenal or manager Arsene Wenger over losing star players to rivals Manchester City.
Since being taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, City have signed Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri from the Gunners, and recent months have also seen them linked with an imminent move for talismanic captain Robin van Persie.
Wenger recently remarked that he found it “painful” to watch City raid his squad once more last summer, but Scudamore insists he does not feel sorry for the Gunners when they say they can no longer compete financially.
"I don't feel sorry for anybody, in the sense that they are all in the same competitive way,” Scudamore told reporters.
"They cannot compete financially so they have to compete in other ways. Arsene Wenger has the talent, skill and nous to be able to do that.
"Arsenal have not exactly been shy in paying good wages and paying for players in the past.
"They have to cut their cloth accordingly. I'm sure that doesn't mean they cannot compete for the title."
This pisses me off. Not because of what this tool said but because of the blue part.
