Re: January Transfer Window 2012
We're apparently in for Texeira. Uruguayan playing in the Eredivisie.
Similiar name to the Portuguese Teixeira. LFC trying to troll us all.

Re: January Transfer Window 2012
I'm not sure if this deserves a new thread or not. It technically isn't a question about who we will/should sign, but it certainly relates to the transfer window and will most likely devolve into a discussion of individual targets. Therefore, I've decided to include it within the transfer thread. In any case, here it goes:
So far, it appears that we are in negotiations with a youngster named either Teixeira or Texeira (Joao Carlos and David respectively), and we may potentially sign both. To be frank, I don't know much about either player. However, they are both quite young, suggesting that they are signings for the future (even more so than a signing like Hoillett would be). The best we can realistically hope for is that they have a role similar to Shelvey's since his return from Blackpool. Perhaps they will be a real boost to the team in the future, but it seems unlikely that they will have an impact this season.
With that said, it's clear that the team has problems right now. Of our three biggest goal-threats, one is banned and another has knee issues that prevent him from playing consecutive games. Our current first choice striker has been unable to find the net (whether you blame the service he is receiving or his own personal ability does not change the end product, or the need to change something). We have one right winger (Maxi) that boasts an impressive scoring rate, but cannot seem to hold down a regular starting place. While some may attribute this to poor squad selection, I will defer to the management who sees him every day and say that if he does not impress in training he doesn't deserve selection. Another of our right wingers (Kuyt) has been relatively ineffectual this campaign. After becoming a real goal threat at the end of last season, he's been utterly unable to find the net so far this season. This inability to score is best evinced by his squandered chances against Stoke City.
Beyond that, several of our summer signings have yet to show the class that brought them to Anfield. While Downing has shown his class in several games (still failing to score in the Premier League so for), he has also disappeared in many games this season. Most importantly, he has failed to provide Carroll with the type of quality service he received in droves at Newcastle. (Perhaps the club would have been better served to invest in the entertaining, if insane, Joey Barton.) Not unlike Downing, Adam has had inconsistent performances for Liverpool. At times he has looked to be a wonderful distributor of the ball. However, he has also had performances in which he has squandered possession with carelessly ambitious passing and been caught out in his defensive duties. These two players (more than Jordan Henderson, who was bought more for the future) were bought to improve the squad immediately. While they may still come good on their potential, the reality is that they haven't had the desired effect.
Daglish and Comolli have publicly stated that they expect a quiet transfer window. Keeping the aforementioned issues with the current squad in mind, we are currently sitting in 7th place. Granted, we are only 2 points away from being fifth (look at that... the exact amount we dropped against Stoke) and 5 points away from Chelsea in 4th. We certainly aren't eliminated from the race for top four, but I think we can all agree that we are not in the position we would have hoped to be by the January window. Given the underwhelming performances in several positions so far this season, is the club making a mistake (or worse, admitting defeat) by not pursuing "new blood" to compete for first team selection?

Maybe we are seriously pursuing another uruguyan , David Texeira striker playing in Holland.(Grobbelar mentioned!)
Mention that David Texeira's (not the Portugese Kid)agents are traveling to holland to fix a deal with liverpool or italian clubs.

Spoke with Dutch source (same one who gave me Luuk de Jong info) - says he's heard nothing in the industry about David Texeira-LFC rumors

Same source goes on to say it doesn't mean Texeira rumors are false, but he was under impression LFC had been scouting Nicolas Lodeiro more

In my opinion, Lodeiro's more plausible. Can get a work permit, same agents as Suarez, has been used at times as striker by Ajax this season

Re: January Transfer Window 2012
From what I hear, David Texeira is a 20 year-old striker from Uruguay who has scored 8 goals in 12 appearances for FC Groningen in the Eredivisie. Solid stats, and he is still young. However, he's not exactly setting the world on fire.
A few more interesting rumors:
- Krasic on loan from Juve
- Kalou from Chelsea
Both are from less than reputable sources. Then again, the Krasic rumor is quite widespread, and the Kalou rumor is cropping up again. WHile neither has been in particularly good form, they are the mold of player that we could use on the right side: pacey wingers that can beat a man and seem to find themselves in the right places at the right times.

Song is a decent example of this, Right?
Though Lucas is the best.
Gerrard at DM? Has his long term absence clouded your memory as to his own positional discipline issues? Also, is it really a good idea to take one of our biggest goal threats and put him in a role that will by and large keep him well away from the oppositions area when we are struggling for goals?ynwa wrote:RedOranje wrote:
Spearing was injured and rested because of it... what happens if/when he picks up a more serious injury in February? Do we play Carra in that role again? Leave the covering to Adam? Hope that Aurelio can get in more than two games before doing his hamstring again? None of those are viable options.
And again, you fail to recognise that a defensive midfielder can actually improve an attack.
Carragher hasn't played that role in 10 years. Gerrard can easily play there IF there's a massive injury to Spearing. There's about a 100 to 1 chance of that happening.
I never said that a defensive midfielder cannot improve our attack. Leiva's role is how we tick. He dictates how we play. Luckily enough, Spearing is good enough to fill that role. A destroyer type (the only ones we've been linked to) won't help us unless we change how we play like we did with Rafa.
Kenny has said if he'd bring anyone in, it'd be one player tops. Striker > DM for me.
Oh I can see we're going to get along swimmingly.danielagger98 wrote:I hate Spearing more than Lucas. He has got nothing. All he does during the games is wave his hand like a cheerleader. And when he gets the ball he makes a short pass to the next guy.
Shelvey or Hendo any day in the middle ahead of them. I know I am supposed to support all players, but I cannot take mediocre players playing for Liverpool.

He's disciplined enough to play there. He's shown it against Norwich, United and again against Bolton. He didn't even play DM today. He had to stay back to cover for Adam.
I see no point in buying another DM when it's not what we need. It'd be a panic buy right now if we do buy a DM and will only hamper the progress of Spearing.
If Spearing picks up an injury, we could always try Coady there. Kenny has shown he'll give the reserves a chance.

Re: January Transfer Window 2012
The performance against Bolton was exactly the type of display that shows our need for a proper DM. Adam couldn't fill the role, so Gerrard faltered between getting forward to create chances and hovering in a deeper role, and even when he held back he didn't properly shield the back 4.
We need cover for Spearing/Lucas.

Liverpool are in pole position to sign Nikica Jelavic as English interest in the Croatia striker intensifies, BBC Scotland understands
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16659157.stm
A very reliable source i would presume. . .
Plus. . .
Jelavic's father has revealed his son is holding out for a move to Liverpool.
Philip Jelavic said: "Yes, we know about the interest of West Ham, and Queens Park Rangers. But Nikica has five or six clubs interested, including that of the great Liverpool. As for West Ham and QPR, I think that Nikica is more ambitious than that. I think it's most likely that he will sign for Liverpool. But there are still a few days until the end of the transfer window, so we will wait and see."
Not so much a reliable source but a direct quote . .

Re: January Transfer Window 2012
I've seen that too... It's a pretty prevalent rumor (with relatively reliable sources).
I cannot, however, decide if I'm excited about it. He would provide another option, but I'm not sure he's the class of striker we need. He has 16 goals in 24 appearances for Rangers. It's not a bad goal ratio (about a goal every 135 minutes, give or take), but (with all due respect) it's not exactly against the opposition of premier league caliber.
I want to know why we haven't looked into Steven Fletcher. He has 9 goals in 17 games in the Premier League (that's a goal every 170 minutes), and he that production was within a relegation zone squad. Oh, he's also 2 years younger and an admitted Liverpool supporter. Honestly, the only thing that isn't going for him in the owners policy is that he isn't British. he's Scottish. I doubt Kenny would have a problem with that.

Hope at least we give some chances to likes of Sterling, Morgan and Coady if no signings are made. They can't do any worse than Downing, Carroll or Adam.

Yeah, we do. But I don't see why we should splash 10m+ on a DM which would be a back-up in 6 months and hinder the progress of Spearing, and Coady in the future when what our team lacks is a finisher.

Two things stands-up:
1. He is 26 and at this age a quality player should be playing for a top club.
2. Other clubs interested in his are barely of European pedegree.
I think he will be in the same class as Ngog and it will be wastage.

Spearing is fine. Was all pre-cautionary just like how Agger was rested one week. Adam and Gerrard shouldn't have lost the midfield against a relegation side regardless. Can argue it was a tactical screw-up as Gerrard's just been brought back and Adam is dire without Lucas, but come on. Relegation candinates.
If Jay picks up an injury in the future, Coady should be given a chance. Flanagan, Kelly, Robinson and Spearing have all shown they can do a job when called upon. We should be fixing our biggest problem at the moment, and that is not hitting the back of the net.
Lionel Messi has scored more goals than Liverpool Football Club.
@ Iftikhar: Like red has said, we're not interested. It's more Jelavic wants us, more than we want him.
