Better long passers than Xabi Alonso: Scholes, Xavi, Guardiola, Schuster, Koeman, Pirlo, probably others I'm forgetting.

Schweinsteigger is better than him.

Alonso is easily the best long passer in the world.

Quarterback Alonso is not the best long passer. Not now, not ever.

I swear my life expectancy decreases by one day everytime I see a painful post like the by freecat.

Saying Schweinsteiger's better than Alonso is fine, but to say Alonso's overrated at long passes and that people like Xavi are better...

*gasps as I experience a simultaneous hernia, stroke and heart attack*

Back on topic, Schweinsteiger's versatility is definitely greater than Alonso's, but at the end of the day, it's how well a player executes his assigned role by the coach, that determines how good he is.

If the coach orders a goalie to always clear the ball when in potential danger than instead of making potentially dangerous short passes, then you cannot say that that goalie is inferior to a goalie that makes short passes, simply because of differing circumstances, criteria and expectations.

In terms of who does their job's better, it's purely subjective. For now, I'll say that they are both sensational players and equally good in their respective fields.

Alonso is one of the best long range passers in history of the game. It's his best ability.

He and Pirlo.
I rate Pirlo higher though.
I prefer him to Schweinsteiger though

Only Pirlo can have definitive argument to be better long range passer than Alonso.

Saying the likes of Xavi and Scholes are better long ball passers is being just bias against Real Madrid players. Not surprising though

36 year old Beckham?

As much as I loved Becks, the only aspect he was better than Alonso was at crossing, corners and freekicks.

Long range passing wise, Alonso's still better than Beckham ever was.

In terms of Pirlo, I think his long passing skills is on par with Xabi's, but his midfield control is definitely greater, so saying Pirlo > Alonso is very justifiable.

Scholes definatley had better long range passing. Xavi barely does them tbh, but when he does it mostly works, Pirlo is better, pure and simple. Laudrup is the best passer across all distances that the game has ever seen. Alonso isn't fit enough to wipe his boots. Rather have Piggy.

Beckham has one of if not the best long range passing in history. If Cronaldo is the typical free kick specialist these days then what was Beckham? A demi-God? Beckham at his peak had one the best long range passing and THE best crossing I have ever seen.

Extremely close, I would probably take Alonso in Atleti. I just like the way he plays. Very unique and elegant. For ex. If one is a 9/10, then the other is 8.95/10
