Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
So if he does leave us after this season, who do you think would be a good replacement for him, and why? I just can't picture anyone with that kind of chemistry with the team and IMO if Pep has success in the league again this year, he will stay just to leave his own legacy as one of the greatest. But I don't see a big name replacing him if and when he leaves, as I believe we will get another surprise manager just like Pep was to us.

Re: Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
Ufff.. no one can replace Pep. No one... He's unique.
A legend. A great amongst greats.
I hope he stays more than next season.
But if he leaves, we have to trust our talents: Luis Enrique, Tito Vilanova or even Oscar Garcia who is doing a great job with Barça youth.
A pitty stupid Rosell signed Eusebio for Barça B instead of promoting Oscar Garcia or signing Lluis Carreras or Raul Agne. These two guys could also have been a good replacement had they showed their worth at Barça B, but they'll always lack the Legend Factor Pep has.

Laudrup.
As Guardiola said, he has the Barça mentality.

Laudrup actually isn't a bad idea, but he hasn't done much with mallorca (two different teams I know). And isn't Luis Enrique elsewhere now? I suppose he can always return.

Luis Enrique has gone to Roma will get a lot of experience from that job though.

Re: Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
My ideal replacement is Tito Villanova.
But provided the players are bored of the pair then perhaps I can come up with some different solutions.
-Xavi upon retirement should definitely take up coaching. Something about him makes me think that he would do a great job, and he's engrained with Barca philosophy.
-Laudrup as has already been mentioned.
-Bielsa. Fits the Barca philosophy profile and I think he would be faithful to the club's history and needs. Commands respect from every player he has coached. While his cabinet is not full of trophies I think he would do a wonderful job.
-Wenger, for obvious reasons, if he ever decides to leave Arsenal and Barca are in need of a manager it will happen.
-Ask Cruyff for any dutch referrals. It worked before.
-Klopp perhaps. His Dortmund play to entertain, he would be a name worth looking into.
-Villas Boas? Has praised Guardiola for his style, perhaps he would try to do the same if gen the chance.

Re: Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
Luis Enrique or Tito Villanova I reckon. I'd very much like to continue the 'using one of our own as the managers. There aren't too many coaches that can coach a Barca style. Maybe Andre Villas Boas if he gets more experience, Porto play nicely.

Re: Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
All very good suggestions Alfred (you're still Alfred, lol) but the only somewhat likely ones are bielsa, and ever since pep had success as our coach I have always felt that xavi should assume a similar role in the future. But wenger isn't too likely, villas boas looks set for chelsea, but I didn't think of bielsa and that would be interesting. An Argentine coach would be cool to accompany Leo.BarrileteCosmico wrote:My ideal replacement is Tito Villanova.

Re: Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
Anyway i do not want to pep leave, he can easily become our SAF.
Even become greater legend than he is now..do not know why
he wants to leave though..if he win nothing next two years this will
not be a serious crime considering what he has done for us.

Re: Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
The only reason (and I hope its not true) I could see him leaving is due to criticism for lacking to prove himself elsewhere. IMO, given what he has achieved in the time he has done it, this is not necessary whatsoever. But I hope he feels the same way when thinking of his career.Beautiful Football wrote:Anyway i do not want to pep leave, he can easily become our SAF.

Wenger: No please. He has a loser mentality (always blaming luck or the ref when they lose) and it sticks to his team. And never keeps his players healthy.
Laudrup: Average with Mallorca (almost relegated) and Getafe. Both teams have not played very good football. Nope.
Bielsa: People here can't understand Argentines. I always thought that a coach should be easily understood, as they work mainly with words and footballers usually don't have a degree in philosophy. I think that's why Juanma Lillo always fails, although he seems to have great tactical views, but impossible to understand. So no either.
Vilas-Boas and Xavi are good options, let's hope Xavi takes coaching once he retires (he says he doesn't want to).
Vicente del Bosque no either, because he is too much linked with Madrid and Spain for my liking, although his CV is good.

Re: Who do you see fit to replace Pep?
I think tactically the coach has to be class, because this team is defended in so many different ways, if Pep wasnt anything other then a top class tactician we would be in trouble.
For this, I rule Wenger out even though I dont think he would be interested anyway.
Great eye for young talent generally and a desire for attacking football. But still, tactically inept and he is too old to move now anyway.
In terms of known coaches, I really like Bielsa, his tactics are unique and his knowledge rivals anyone. Cant think of many well known coaches better then him for us.
I dont know, maybe the coach simply has to be from Barca or at least played a long time with Barca.
I used to think of Laudrup as a possible target, but on a coaching level I havent seen anything stand out. His pick seems more based on him as a player then anything else.

I agree with most of this except the Argentine thing... what about Hellenio Herrera? One of Barca's best ever coaches. I don't think its fair to blanket them as impractical. Bielsa could certainly work.
On Del Bosque, add to it that his football with Spain is sh*t compared to Aragones' and he probably has a better team.
