Why do you say that. Italy has never lost to Spain in serious play except once on penalties in 2008. Italy also sucks in friendlies, but wins World Cups. That's plural.

Bias aside, it'll be tough to beat Brazil in 2014 when we play at home.. you might be looking at our sixth trophy there.

Brazil are the favorites and 2014 is not in Italy's 12 year cycle when the team peaks in recent history where Italy makes the finals. 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006. Uruguay is who you need to look out for in 2014, especially if the final is in the Maracana.

Meh, Italy were extremely lucky, Spain played better and were wasteful. Buffon doesnt even come close to Casillas right now. And Balotelli is a damn beast.

Also, I really dont get the whole '4 World Cups' thing. I mean, two of them are from the 1930s, and another from the 80s. They have no relevance whatsoever. Saying 'We won the first 5 European Cups, therefore Real Madrid is the greatest' makes more sense than that.

I guess you don't quite get it. Italy is the only team that has continuously been a winner and contender from the 30s to the 2000s. And, you may be unaware of the fact that Italy was the last World Cup winner before Spain in 2006. Young people just don't get it, yet the statistics are there for anyone to see.

History has the most relevance with respect to the World Cup. Over the past 40 years there have been 8 repeat winners and only 3 first time winners. Figure out the probabilities.

Furthermore the history of a national team has everything to do with World Cup performance. Imagine a team with no historical relevance did as badly as Italy did in 2010. Chances are that team would have difficulty qualifying for the next Wrold Cup, much less be a contender. When the Italian players go out to play for the national team, they have and feel a great responsibility to the country that expects excellence that they have known for decades, but also to past players, yes even from the 30s, that won the World Cup for Italy. Look at the faces of the Italian players when the anthem is playing, those guys are ready to give it their all, even Balotelli, who screws around with a club team.

Your point? Since when has Italy ever been great in friendlies? In fact Italy is worst. Alright answer this, please explain to me how in 66 games 5 loses in all those games make them suck in friendlies, facts don't show that for one, and second if you saw the second half, Spain did take the game seriously. But sure, say what you want, claim and say Spain suck in friendlies as you have lack in knowledge and don't bring up the right knowledge.

Once again, good to hear about them winning in WC or EC, last I checked, the same implied with Italy. I don't know how we won our four world cups and making it to the finals 7 times, we sure don't win anything do we? Let aside, 2010... which is irrelavent.

How weren't Italy that good? We won first of all, second we were more dominate... Did you see how many chances we had to score? Maybe like 7 +... The score line should of been 4-1 or more like 4-0 if it wasn't for that stupid penalty.

Have you ever wondered why? After the penalties, then came Marcello Lippi, he called up all the wrong players, no wonder we were shit, all our star players were not called up. Now most of them are... and now we are not shit. If we were so shit, we wouldn't of lost today, if we were shit we wouldn't be first place in our qualifying and undefeated in it, or even going up in the fifa rankings from 16th to 6th in one year. That is not shit my friend, but your post without elaboration completely is.

Well said! We can even take the current Uruguay side as an example. They haven't won the world cup since 1950 and before that 1930 but look at the team they have now and their performance in 2010 and in the Copa America. Did anybody really expect them to make the semi finals in 2010 with the team they had? Or even win the Copa America over the clear favorites Argentina and Brazil.
The point is great teams have always found there way back to the top one way or another. If i've learned anything from my years of watching football its that teams like Italy, Brazil, and Argentina and Germany will always be clear favorites no matter the hard times they go through as a country because they always find themselves back on top.

Just a fun fact, before winning the world cup in 2010 Spain's highest place in a World cup was 4th and that was in 1950. Compare that to Englands world cup history and you have 2 similar scenarios.Englands highest since winning in 66 is 4th place in 90. Granted that could very well mean nothing, but if i had to make a bet based on history and the way its paneled out i would say its gonna be a longgggggggg time until Spain lifts that trophy again.

You should be happy Spain didn't lose 5-0. There was no penalty. And, when does Italy ever think itself lucky to beat Spain? Now, losing to Spain, on penalties in 2008 was embarrassing, since Spain had never beaten Italy in any match that mattered. Our rivals are Brazil and Germany, not Spain.

By the way, we used our youngsters and we played 17 players in the game, not because of injury, but to experiment.

Poor man's Argentina :coffee:

(Argentina 4 - Spain 1)

Not that there is a difference. Joke I learned today: An Argentine goes to Rome and is trying to call an old friend, he goes into a phone booth and starts looking through the phone book. Startled, he asks his wife "Why are there so many Argentine names in Italy?"

Technically no but this is football so in the end the only thing that matters is who can put the ball in the back of the net. And personally Spain won the WC but i think they were far from the best team

I think you need to re watch the game specifically the first half.

Same as the blue text

Spain is lucky they even scored with that BS of a penalty. As for the excuse, Spain had enough of their top players...plus Prandelli has been experimenting with a new style of play that Italy isnt typically used to. It's funny cause I always hear about how deep the Spanish bench is and I recall somewhere in this thread where our players were just average. Guess our average players were too much for the world champs to handle haha tongue

Uh hello, in the end the result counts in which makes you the better team of in that match, don't be delusional. I can be defending the whole game, and yet be the better team because I was able to stop you from scoring. It's called tactics my friend. Let's make one thing clear, Ball Possesion does not make you better. Never has, and never will. Italy had far more chances to begin with and were more dangerous on them, and even on the counter. Spain didn't even compare to our chances. But yes, we managed to score two goals and one soft penalty in which shouldn't of been given was the only goal from Spain. Sure.

In which why I respect Argentina, but at the same time pissed to see all the Italian talents there. But what can you do, it's like seeing Italy #2 except they grew up in another country with a different culture.

I'm not lol... Listen, I respect the guy a lot, that's all. His posts are epic, I'm telling you... He always knows what he is talking about, especially with the national team. Mark my words, the man is a legend here.

Let him see it, he can complain all he wants. It's not my problem that he's not as smart as wiggles when it comes to Italian Football :coffee:

It's ok, I got used to it. We're all pretty pagan in this board with Gods pretty much everywhere.

Italy are a good side, never to be underestimated.

The bias sometimes is a little extreme... but yeah.

I love me my Italian food and women.
