Cannot see how Thimmy even defends ETH. I am guessing he doesn't know he is Dutch, not Norwegian, because the coach is absolutely dire.
Not half as bad as Poch though the most overrated manager of the decade. Barilette has a lot to answer for hyping him up along with others. Clown manager who has no vision.

I think EG got the impression that I was defending him, and like everything else I do on here, it turned into a running gag
My opinion on him is a bit more nuanced than being a hater or a fan. I think he's far from the core of United's problems, but I also don't think he's an ideal candidate for the job. Either way, if they sack him mid-season, like they've done with so many of their managers, it's just going to signal that the situation hasn't changed and it's still a club in a desperate situation with no stability and no clear goal in sight.
Since Farfan insisted that I'm a told you so kind of guy, I had the same opinion on Arteta, who unlike Ten Haag, I actually thought you could see where he was going with the more fragmented team he inherited from Ljungberg. No one on here seemed to have any faith in Arteta, and it seemed to be popular everywhere else on the internet to bash him for his poor results. Sometimes, it's the players and the direction of the club that aren't up to par, and that's not something a manager can necessarily come in and conveniently fix.
I do have some connections in professional football, albeit not so many at the highest level of the sport. It seems to me that many fans have a very idealistic view of how things work internally at clubs, and that everything can be solved or ruined at the hands of the manager. If we assume that is the case, then every Man United manager in the post Ferguson era is an incompetent team builder, and the club's board is too incompetent to take the recruitment power away from them and guide the club in the right direction rather than letting past mistakes repeat itself. And none of it matters if you can scapegoat the managers every time and reset things in the eyes of fans by firing and hiring.

Re: Premier League 2023/24
Acquisitions done properly has to be a club effort, not just up to what coach wants.
You need scouting, both for prospects but also for proven veterans. You also need thru scouting or some other way to know about attitude and personality.
You need the longer term vision of what club needs.
You need a futbol director that is in charge and central point for everything about acquisitions. In effect he should also be the coach’s boss and when that is not possible with top coaches then at least a partnership aka Man City.
And you need some in club’s executive, like COO, to be heavily involved as he manages budget and acquisition financial capability.
And you want coaches input, particularly with immediate needs. Ideally you also want 2nd team coach involved as well.

Re: Premier League 2023/24
Just seeing the schedule today later Liverpool will play again, so thats 2 days after playing Arsenal on 24th? Thats not right... how can they be expected to play 2 EPL games in 3 days???????????
Man U v Aston Villa should be fun. Hope Villa win, but they prolly let Man U back in it again n keeps ETH going again

Re: Premier League 2023/24
based on how both teams look and our injuries I wouldn't be surprised if we get humiliated and ETH is sacked by Ratcliffe
Newcastle look finished, schedule and injuries caught up with them

he is never coming back, like I said when we signed him, he was a fraud
failed under 3 diff managers, lazy bastard and he cant even do basic football fundamentals right at the PL level, his run at Dortmund ws built on pure confidence and Bundesfodder defenses
we are trying to offload him and may even release him if nobody bites in January - he's exiled from the squad until he apologizes to ETH and we dont really care if he doesnt since he's awful

Re: Premier League 2023/24
Such a shame, he featured in a lot of your lineups.
I read somewhere Elanga scored more goals or has more goal contributions than all of UTD's attack.

Re: Premier League 2023/24
Fact is Bundesliga defences are considerably weaker than the other leagues. I'd defend that for years until upon closer analysis it turns out to be true. There just is no focus or system on defence and it's a bit shocking for Ligue 1 itself has better defences why so many players from there upon success, fail in other leagues. Countless examples before anyone accuses me of cherrypicking.
Sancho is a part time twitch streamer now sometimes caught at 4am doing so and turns out he just isn't as good as we all thought.

Onana any youth keeper is better than him, get him fucking benched already
almost karma how ETH handled the DDG situation and Onana will end up costing him his job ultimately

Re: Premier League 2023/24
The failure isn't only on Onana. The defence has been terrible. How bad was the defending for that corner. Look at Varane with his half arsed defending. Ugh

Re: Premier League 2023/24
Not sure what Varane can do there. it's zonal defense, not man. The fullback needs to cover that area. Lenglet had the zone completely free.
I'm not sure why all the other players are on the goal line. They need to cover zones.

His attempt for the clearance is so Varane-like

Re: Premier League 2023/24
What would sacking ETH now achieve. Better give him till the summer to salvage something. Will also have more managers to choose from. Pochettino might be a sure candidate in the summer for example

Re: Premier League 2023/24
Switching ETH for Poch is like switching one bad slice of pizza for another one.
United need a restructuring as a whole and their squad is bang average bar 1-2 exceptions.

Re: Premier League 2023/24
game is pretty even but as per usual this season - our GK is dogshit. DDG had errors in him often but he was a genuinely great shot stopper. He saved us far more often than he sunk us. Onana inspires ZERO confidence ever. We keep giving teams easy leads.
