what particular narrow moral standards set by private companies are you talking about??? You are making this something it's not. The issue at hand here is a concern of basic social etiquette and social contracts. If someone worked under me, and they do, say or post some creepy shit i'll also follow actions to reprimand them in some way, if not totally fire them... just depending on the extent of it.

But it could also be that a lot of people are jerks when they're young/growing up, and they mellow out / get woke as they educate themselves.

I used to throw the around the word *bleep* like it was going out of business in high school (like everyone else, I should add), and now I am a teacher who started and co-advises the school GSA (LGBTQ+ club).

Viva is right here. When you're young you're stupid and you don't have a lot of world experience and you do and say things you regret. Empathy, to a large extent, depends on having lived through different experiences. It's no wonder that younger people aren't as empathetic! You haven't experienced all that much yet.

I wholeheartedly disagree with those on the internet who try and take down people for things they said or did as a teenager. As long as it wasn't something truly horrible (rape, murder, manslaughter from drunk driving, domestic violence etc) where teenagers are obviously capable of understanding the gravity of the situation, I think it's very uncompromising. Not saying that's the situation here, idk what Rapinoe's age is, but as a general rule

I would say it applies when you're in your teens but Rapinoe was 25 when she tweeted that so she should know better considering how woke she pretends to be right now.

Its different if you're 25 as opposed to 16, 17 or even 18 years old. Huge gap in maturity in this age range

It's definitely not a good-looking tweet. But it's also IMHO not bad enough to ruin someone over.

If you put yourself out there by spreading your political views on social media as much as she does, you should be prepared for the consequences of it.

25 isn't exactly "young and stupid". She's been praised for her progressive views, ever since she took onto Twitter, but the age check only seems to apply when people say stupid shit, which anyone is capable of, regardless of their age.

Tend to agree with CB and Viva here.

I like to look at the things someone has said and done SINCE they said or did something regrettable. I look for consistency that shows they understand just how bad the mistake they made actually was and that there's little chance they'll do it again.

I would honestly be shocked if Rapinoe said anything remotely as bad as this again. Given she's both an icon of the women's game and now a cultural icon in American society in general, that comes with a very good PR department generally speaking.

As I said, didn't know Rapinoe's age. It's not great but a tweet acknowledging that that is inappropriate to say now just as it was then would be all that's expected
