Re: Post lock down season 19/20
we still need to negotiate a deal for Ceballos if he is to stay, lots of talk of another one year loan deal. There's been rumours about getting Thomas Partey from Atletico, he will definitely be an improvement on Torreira.
our midfield has been our biggest issue this season, not the best balance at all with the current players we have. And of course defensively we still lack on-field quality as well. That road to the FA Cup win was purely on Arteta coming in and concocting the best gameplan to win us these games, but make no mistake, we still don't have the quality in players and depth to make it back to the top 4.

Re: Post lock down season 19/20
We're a bit like the 08/09 Arsenal at the moment. Fabregas, Rosicky and van Persie were injured so the midfield was Diaby, Denilson, Song and Walcott and they couldn't create a thing. Arshavin arrived in the winter and single-handedly transformed the team.
I suppose a more modern comparison would be this current United team. Quick forwards, questionable defence and no creativity in the middle. Pogba got his act together and Fernandes arrived and they became a completely different team.
Arsenal need better centre backs so they can play a higher defensive line (not ones who can't defend space well and get skinned by any players with pace), but they really need an Arshavin/Nasri/Fernandes type of player as well.

Szoboszlai looks like a TANK so he is welcome.

A bit off topic, but that's not what happened When Fernandes arrived, Pogba was still injured. He gets his act together in about 7-10 matches per season, and pretty much always when they play against Arsenal. A lot of players seem to step up their game against Arsenal, now that I think about it. I'd be hard-pressed to claim that Pogba changes the team with those spurts of form. It's consistency that matters, and Bruno's shown more consistency since he arrived than Pogba has ever done for Man United.

Congratulations, everybody.
That was definitely the sweetest of the most recent four.
For the first time in many years, we have reason to believe there are actual good ebenings on the horizon.

Re: Post lock down season 19/20
Forgive me if this discussion is happening in another thread, I looked but it's been a while.
Curious to see what you all feel about Martinez/Leno.
On one hand, Leno was outstanding and our best player alongside Aubameyang before the Brighton injury. We all know he's excellent and it's hard luck but, for now, Emi should go straight into next season starting. He's been that good.
On the other, if an offer were to arrive for one of them, that's probably the only area of the pitch where we appear to have the luxury of getting a good fee for both players in that position.
I don't think either one would be satisfied riding the bench all next season and if you put a gun to my head, I'd say keep Emi. Homegrown, lower wages, Arsenal through and through. He's just been such an immense, confidence-inspiring presence. His distribution and command of the GK area are markedly better than Leno's imo.

Talks over Martinez's future are expected to take place imminently with Arsenal eager to extend a contract that expires in the summer of 2022. Before the Argentine commits to fresh terms at the Emirates Stadium football.london understands he will look for assurances over exactly what role he will have in the 2020/21 season.

Re: Post lock down season 19/20
Keep them both for the year and let them fight.
Martinez has been excellent but he was extra motivated over a small sample of games. If you give him a new deal, make him first choice, etc will he do that over a whole season?
Since we don't know yet, I wouldn't be rushing to sell Leno. Leno himself may get even better if he has to fight for his place.

It would be nice if both were willing to compete for the #1 shirt and bring out even more in each other. We'll see if either one generates interest before the window closes, that's when it goes from being a good problem to a squad building decision.
Still a good problem. Love them both.

No offense but I don't really see why Partey would choose to join Arsenal? If you would pay crazy wages, sure, but these days you're kind of skint aren't you
