Re: The Witcher TV series
Here's how you know the casting is incredible: I have been thinking about all the actors who could play Geralt, not just based on talent alone, but also looks (they'll have to look more or less like him or have at least similar bone structure).Cavill came top of my list every time.
I think Mads Mikkelsen, Viggo Mortensen and Alexander Dreymon could pull off playing the Witcher. However, and in terms of looks alone, none of them looks as similar to Geralt as Cavill does. It's kinda spooky how similar those two look.
The role was made for him, I hope he does well.

Re: The Witcher TV series
I would still have Nikolaj Coster-Waldau over Cavill if I‘m honest. Don‘t know if he is as big of a draw as Cavill but he is the better actor imo.
But it could be as simple as The Witcher not wanting people to think it‘s a GoT knock off and Nikolaj staying away from another role in a fantasy series so Cavill will do.

I hadn't thought about it, but now that you've brought it up, yes, I think Nikolaj would make a great Geralt.

Re: The Witcher TV series
Cavill has come a long way from his Legolas lookalike days
He delivers his lines great on the trailer, full confidence now
95m per 8 episodes. Is this the most expensive Netflix show?

That huge battle scene says it tbh. It has to be the most expensive.
Although not sure if more than Marco Polo

Re: The Witcher TV series
If the reports I'm reading on the internet hold any truth to them then the budget of Season 1 is around 70–80 million USD ( roughly 10M$ per episode),which is only second to Game of Thrones' last season (15M$ per episode).

I think Cavill is a good match, but I have some issues with the other, main actresses to be perfectly honest. I’m sure this topic has been beaten to death on the internet, but for someone like me, I can only imagine it will break my sense of association with the established, Witcher brand. I bet you can predict what’s coming.
It’s not even about the acting, I’m not familiar with their acting ability. I think Ciri looks too innocent for the part, but that opinion might change. Yennefer/Triss/Fringilla are potentially immersion breaking choices that might distract me from thinking of the show as a Witcher- based one, rather than just any other, high-budget, sci-fi. For those who can look past the specific choice of actresses, good for you. I don’t think I can just ignore the fact that Anna Henrietta’s cousin will be played by a black woman for no tangible reason. If they wanted to include more non-white people in the show, it would’ve made more sense to me if they had simply introduced characters that aren’t already established as a particular race. I suppose there’s no point in complaining about it at this point, but I think the political choice of casting was highly unnecessary.
The male characters look closer to what I’d expect them to look like based on the source material, although I admittedly haven’t finished reading The Tower of Swallows and Lady of the Lake. That said, even if I end up interpreting the show as something more similar to the likes of Game of Thrones, I hope it will be worth the watch because I will watch it.

Re: The Witcher TV series
You're only familiar with adult Ciri, what makes you think that 11 year old Ciri, who was a coddled princess, wouldn't be innocent before she was forced out of her bubble?
Also man this really breaks your immersion of yennefer? Really?

Yennefer looks perfect.
The only bad thing for me is the godawful nutsack looking Nilfgaardian armor.

Not sure I’d count Marco Polo. Clearly part of a money laundering scheme that show.

I don’t think he’s a better actor actually. They’re about the same level. NCW is also more than a decade older and significantly less athletic. And both age and physicality is needed for a role like this.
Can’t believe I had to go against a Dane on here. And one of the nicest too.

Looks decent, apparently it's based on the books rather than the games? I honestly always thought the games followed the books faithfully, but I hear that's not the case? I'm more interested in the show now, knowing that it'll cover a bunch of things that were either not touched at all in the games or not well fleshed out.

Re: The Witcher TV series
Yennefer looks amazing. I love her.
I'd prefer Mikkelsen for the role (at least I did initially) but Cavill being a genuine fan of the Witcher universe makes it that much more cool. And he looks great in the trailer so no complains.

The games take place after the books, they're basically the best version of a fan fic lol.

Witcher fans are all behind this at least. Fantasy fans will join in too. It might be different than their usual big budget flops.

Re: The Witcher TV series
I had my problems with the first trailer.
Second trailer has me convinced.
Not only Cavill looks like Geralt, he sounds like him and most of all the budget looks GOT level and the fight choreography even better, to which is a very imperative element for me personally.
Ciri looks a bit too young but then again this is the ignorant me speaking who's love for Witcher has began with Witcher 3+ but Yen is definitely not what I imagine.
The style most definitely will be nailed, just wondering if there is substance behind this.
And I wish the soundtrack would be more slavic/polish. Would add much to the immersion of it being Witcher given Witcher 3's superb score.
