Re: The Witcher TV series
I had my problems with the first trailer.
Second trailer has me convinced.
Not only Cavill looks like Geralt, he sounds like him and most of all the budget looks GOT level and the fight choreography even better, to which is a very imperative element for me personally.
Ciri looks a bit too young but then again this is the ignorant me speaking who's love for Witcher has began with Witcher 3+ but Yen is definitely not what I imagine.
The style most definitely will be nailed, just wondering if there is substance behind this.
And I wish the soundtrack would be more slavic/polish. Would add much to the immersion of it being Witcher given Witcher 3's superb score.

Same but Anya looks fantastic in the trailer so I'm sold on her totally. She's close to my type so that helps too

This is the only hint about the soundtrack so far: https://www.instagram.com/p/B0l4xvTAX6Z/?utm_source=ig_embed ; https://www.instagram.com/p/B4dqqvYgJMz/
^ This russian girl is on it so its definitely gonna be slavic AF.
Hope its good because music is key to set the mood.

Re: The Witcher TV series
Trailers never (almost) use music from actual material it's a commercial to.
Also Ciri is supposed to be like 13. She def does not look too young. Sadly I won't be able to continue my comments regarding Ciri from the game thread.

Yen looks great, we have to realise some scenes are from Yen's origins so she doesn't look the same.
But in the scenes where she's not in that state she looks great and yeah Ciri is supposed to be younger.

I dont think they were that different, there were some cooler scenes with Geralt himself in the first one but overall I liked both equally.
The games set very high standards for female characters as CDPR have painted all of them as 10/10 supermodels lol

This post pretty much reflects my impressions based on the trailers. I’m in the middle of reading the third book, and I’m a bit sceptical towards the show based on it’s overall authentism. I’m not quite as immediately optimistic as the majority on here seem to be, in that regard. But of course, if none of that matters, then a GoT 2.0 will probably be a success anyway.

Re: The Witcher TV series
I'll be honest it's not as overwhelmingly positive as some of you think it is, a lot of Witcher fans are very pessimistic.
Mostly because most of them want a direct copy of the books and this isn't that, there's a lot of changes people don't like.
I personally don't see the point in that, i wouldn't want to see a book clone. But the idea that Witcher fans are all happy isn't really true.

You‘re going to hear a lot of „bUt iN tHE BoOkS“ while watching this series.
I‘d stay clear of these morons.
Hopefully no book talk will be allowed in this thread after it starts.

Should I complete the game first and then go for the show to avoid spoilers? Or the story is different than games?

I was referring to «perfect Yennefer» GL, not fans in general. I haven’t read what the rest of the internet think about these early impressions. As for the book clone suggestion of yours, again, what concerns me a little is that it might turn out to be a show that has little to do with the books or it’s Slavic origins, and more like a game of thrones that is vaguely inspired by the brand and lore of The Witcher, and has a wider appeal to audiences that aren’t familiar with the franchise.

No the show is based on the books, the game is based on a fictional timeline (read non-canon) after the events of the books, obviously can't go into more details as i don't want to spoil the book for you.

There actually will be, and have been more complaints from gamers.
Things like why does Geralt not have two swords hanging from his back, why is the medallion not 3D, why don't characters look like their game counterparts etc have already been said a lot.

I don’t doubt that, Expert Gamers are an even worse species than book purists.

Re: The Witcher TV series
The witcher games are set after the books. They are non-cannon and essentially high budget fan fictionLucifer wrote:Should I complete the game first and then go for the show to avoid spoilers? Or the story is different than games?

Usually a sign Netflix thinks they got a hit on their books, but how else could this have turned out after they spent so much money on it?

So what do we assume from that, always the plan regardless or the interest is high enough that they see fit to go further?

Re: The Witcher TV series
Does it have to mean anything, though? Ironfist got two seasons. I don’t know how popular that show was, but it’s one of, if not the worst super hero TV series I’ve ever watched. Just incomprehensibly awful. With the budget they’re throwing behind the Witcher, the special effects alone will likely make it entertaining enough to keep a lot of people around. There’s also the star power of Cavill.

Netflix doesn’t have any famous IP. So they have to continue this show tbh.
