If you say so Sports lol. Needless to say, Mendy is gonna be lit in La Liga. I mean, doubt he'll be a flop at all imo.

Every morning, there are 2 boats leaving for Europe, the one on the right to France and the one on the left to Spain. As the migrants come down the dock they are asked if they play futbol. The ones that say yes get put on the boat to the right, and the others are told to take the boat on the left where they can go to sell knock off goods!

And let's not forget what a sad, low quality affair that last World Cup was, with the possibly most unremarkable winners ever. Compare that to Denmark 92 for example, these are proper heroes.

I know you're (half) trolling, but I don't think you know the state of football in France before the late 70s. Laughing  We're talking low participation in the sport, lack of interest from large swaths of the population, shitty infrastructure, no coherent national strategy to promote and professionalize the sport, etc...

The reforms of the 70s essentially birthed modern football in France, and I don't think the NT has underperformed since.

There was a bad patch from 90 - 94 but since 98, things have been smooth as eggs for France NT. Well, smooth-ish. Once you ignore 2002, the mutiny of 2010 and whatever version of France that was 2012 - 2014. France has been steady as she goes and whatever was started in the 70s definitely is paying off now. I think I saw a documentary on it too but I cannot recall much details from it.

Also, World Champions.

Great debut. 1:27 was my personal favorite moment. Imagine if Marcelo was in that situation. That villareal player would've already been 1v1 with Marcelo casually jogging back.

Because this was my easiest damn prediction I ever made. Pretty much sealed Marcelo's future Serie A destination and benched any would-be LB that'll be coming anyway. Only if Regi was a RB, that would have been golden.

Great full back, legit has made us a better defense unit.

Yeah, from what I’ve seen of him, he can be quite good offensively, but his defensive productivity leaves a lot to be desired. Marcelo used to get away with it due to how good he was at going forward, but Hakimi is still a work in progress.

Hakimi has a different arsenal to Marcelo, he’s more similar to someone like Maicon imo

Calma, Achraf will be coming back as backup / challenger to Carvajal, essentially replacing Odriozola.

I'd like regi to come back and compete with mendy, steel sharpen steel. Neither of them is at their peak yet but the competition would prevent laziness

I think the only moves re back will be Achraf returning. They are essentially waiting for Ramos, Marcelo to go, but I feel Ramos will be here for a couple more and Marcelo one more. Plus goal is also set.

I predict the only veterans leaving will be Modric, Bale and James with Isco a possibility.

People not giving him his deserved dosage of Spanish bias tbh. They're both Spanish and he deserves to be overrated too.

Yes, I would choose Mendy any day. He's definitely one of the best signings the club has made in recent years.

His offensive game could use a little work, but his defending is monstrous and one of the main reasons why we look more solid than ever at the back.

Fullbacks seem to be set for the next decade

Carvajal/Achraf and Mendy/Regi

Quite excited if I'm being honest

Reguillon is solid in defense, Mendy is just much better. Taller, stronger, faster, a way better athlete. And it's funny because at Lyon he had a better reputation being an offensive player that a defensive one, so when his attacking game catches up, he will retire in peace.

Imagining a future with both reguillon and Mendy at Madrid is not reasonable. Maybe just for a season but reguillon won't stay to be on the bench.

You know, It's a great problem to have for Real Madrid if you ask me. If Reguilon has truly become as good as hala claims him to be, then all the better. It would mean we have two great LBs to rotate and guard our left side for the next decade. So yeah I truly hope Reguilon is goating at Sevilla.

I'm worried about the RB side though. Carvajal is not as good as he used to be, and the jury is still out on Hakimi and Odri.

Time will tell, but I would really hate to see Carvajal fail to return back to his best. Man, he was unplayable!

A lot of fans believed this but I never shared this opinion tbh. I always thought his defensive issues were relatively easy to fix. He was solid in 1 vs 1 situations and his only problem was a somewhat questionable positional awareness. I assumed a competent coach will be able to address that, which is what happened.

His offensive capacities, on the other hand, needed way more work. He made explosive runs and was a good dribbler, but his decision making was downright horrific at times and his crosses were so terrible he stopped making them at one point. Laughing

If you check my post on the first page, I already noted that Mendy's main contribution to the team will be defensive stability.

I'm always baffled when a fullback can't cross. It's like the second thing they need to know how to do after being able to defend the wing 1v1.

Football is mostly genetic though. you can't really learn it. practice makes better but I've seen players struggle with first touch or crossing their entire career.
