Re: The Official Roma Thread
I read his latest interview and it's quite clear he is begging to be back coaching Juve again.

Not the news I wanted to wake up to. Many of us knew he was coming up on the end of his time here, but I always hoped it would be retirement.
615 appearances and 65 goals. Can't ask from him than that. He'll be missed badly, especially in the locker room.
Florenzi reminded us against Juve that he is worthy of taking up the armband next though so I think we are in good hands.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
It is almost impossible imagining Roma without Totti and De Rossi. I wonder if De Rossi is going to China to retire? I wondered if Cassano would be a Roma legend too, but his bad behaviour not allowed him to reach his heights as he spent most of his career smoking ciggy and eating pork belly.
Re: The Official Roma Thread
Cassano left Roma at 23 for Madrid before his laziness destroyed his career. He wouldn't be a Roma legend anyway.
De Rossi is one of my favorite players ever, one of the best midfielders I've watched. Will miss him a lot. Can't imagine him playing for another team Serie A, it's right that he is leaving Italy. One of the main reasons as to why I always preferred Roma to the Milanese teams or Napoli as contenders.
Amazing captain, leader, and player
Florenzi is next in the Roma line, good luck to him too.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
I'll never forget his Euro 2012, one of the best players of the tournament for sure. That Italy team worked so well, just needed better forwards and fullbacks, as far as Balo and Cassano were concerned. Him, Marchisio, Pirlo, great midfield. Shame about the final though.
I've always been a fan of his personality, he is the typical grinta type when it comes to criticizing players about using social media, not running enough, shouting and whatnot. I have a special affection for those types as is obvious. They are a special breed, and it seems that DDR is the last bastion of that type.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Peaked his prime in period 2007-2010 imo, when he was rated as the Italian Steven Gerrard.
Then great also in Euro 2012 .. After It , he declined , also because of serious personal problems ( her former wife came from a bad family etc Divorced . Just the new and current wife gave him that serenity and stability that he needed )... He continued to be good, but imo he hasn't reached that status of top player anymore.
He's been one of the hardest rivals for our titles. As I 've written he was in his prime when we were same, that's a reason because he's never been dear towards us.
Even though I couldn't feel simpathy towards him , I've always respected him as football player. Impossible not to do it on the other hand.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
The scary thing for me is that we don't have a midfielder at any of the youth levels with the characteristics that could resemble what DDR gives this team. We'll likely have to go out and buy a player like that.
If we keep Nzonzi and he's deployed correctly by the next coach, he could be a good holdover.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Gutted even as a distant Roma spectator as I cannot express how underrated De Rossi's (few) appearances were for Roma, the man ageing like fine wine in adapting to a less vertical role to a deep lying distributor with some out of this world passes and excellent reading of the game defensively.
Shame past 30 injuries continued to plague him but each time on the field he was fantastic and the most recent example is when he went off versus Porto.
One of the most complete midfielders Ive seen from his two perfect feet, vision, distribution and Lion-esque mentality.
Roma losing Totti and De Rossi in such close succession will be felt. Not the best news to cap off a shambolic year.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
And he's being pushed out pretty much like Totti was, as Nainggolan eluded to as well.
I really don't know what to think of that. It's hard to know how much of this was DDR and how much of this was Pallotta. I think given the choice, DDR would stay and he's said as much. So that must mean this was out of his hands. Decisions like this are not why I became a fan of this club. This, I know for sure. If 2 legends like these can be put out to pasture like this, there's not much hope for the likes of Florenzi or Pellegrini when they get to this stage of their careers. Why stay loyal to this club when it won't stay loyal to you? I wouldn't blame either of them if they left while still in their prime. Will they? Highly unlikely.
Makes me wonder what life for DDR would've been like if he had left for Chelsea during his prime.
Maybe the likes of Bertolacci and Romagnoli had it right all along.....

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Bertolacci the scrub isn't even Genoa level.
Romagnoli was a Laziale, his idol was Nesta, he even copied his haistyle ffs
How he ended up in Roma i'm honestly not sure.
Roma is a very volatile club, with a very fickle fanbase, it takes a special assimilate the culture there.

Somehow I don't think Romagnoli would've stayed loyal to Lazio either. They're worse than we are.
As for Bertolacci, shit he may be, but I think he saw the writing on the wall and got out of dodge.
It stings that this how the club has decided to repay a career of loyalty.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Banners in rome from the fans honoring DDR and/or bashing Pallotta.
DDR's comment was a bullet. "Everyone tells me I'm already a good football director, if I was a football director, I'd have offered a contract to a player like me".
The club loses so much with him gone.

I love De Rossi, but he is 36 and always injured. It was time to move on.
You should buy Tonali.

Well we probably won't be in the CL next year (given that result against Sassuolo) so we don't have that as a bargaining chip to get Tonali.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
The only thing we're CL-quality at right now is drama
While I think this story is largely sensationalist drivel, I can't help, but wonder if there is a grain of truth to it. I doubt it's DDR who wanted Totti out, but I don't have too much trouble imagining the likes of Dzeko, Kolarov and other senior players who may want his influence on the locker room lessened. I don't believe they'd want him out of the club entirely though. That's definitely bullshit.
Either way, welcome to Roma's silly season.
Roma President James Pallotta has denied a ‘bull’ report in La Repubblica that claimed Daniele De Rossi wanted Francesco Totti out of the club.
The Roman newspaper cited a leaked email from ex-Roma fitness coach Ed Lippie - sent to Pallotta in December of last year - that read how De Rossi, along with Edin Dzeko, Kostas Manolas and Aleksandar Kolarov, called for the heads of not only Coach Eusebio Di Francesco and sporting director Monchi but also Totti.
Above all, the quartet would have felt uncomfortable by the club icon’s presence in the dressing room.
La Repubblica notes Lippie’s sources were medics Riccardo Del Vescovo and Damiano Stefanini – both of whom left the Olimpico with Di Francesco and Monchi in March.
When pressed on the allegations, Pallotta told RomaPress: “It’s all the usual bull. I’m going to clear it up today.”
Corriere dello Sport, meanwhile, writes De Rossi has been ‘deeply shocked’ by the report and is considering legal action against the authors of the story.

Coaches we've been linked to:
Gasperini - Nope
Sarri - Nope
Giampaolo - Probably
De Zerbi - Probably
Mihaljovic - Probably (Yuck)
Bordalas - Maybe (Random AF)
Fonseca - Maybe
I honestly am not all sure I care which coach we get. The coach doesn't really matter when the front office is a mess right now.

Well he also played for us too. Then he went to Lazio and won the scudetto. It isn't just that he played for them, it's the shit he was talking about the club while he was there. Rubbing it in was understandable, yet still a dick move.
Kolarov did it the right way.
