Re: The Official Roma Thread
Roma are reportedly offering €40m for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, but the asking price is €50m.
The Serie A transfer window shuts on Friday at 19.00 UK time (18.00 GMT) and there is still time to do one last deal.
Director of sport Monchi’s assistant, Frederic Massara, was spotted at the transfer HQ in Milan this afternoon, suggesting talks are on-going.
According to Mediaset Premium, the player in question is Jamaica international winger Bailey.
An offer of €40m is on the table, whereas Bayer Leverkusen want €50m for the 21-year-old talent.
He scored 12 goals with six assists in 34 competitive games for the German club last season.
Would be a coup if Roma manage to sign him

Yeah Monchi is trying to sell in order to have enough to get him. I think there are cheaper alternatives still in the frame, but this is definitely our top target.

We'd be so much better if EDF didn't insist on pigeon-holing players into formations they're not suited for. He should never have needed to be forced into switching his formation. This remains a critical flaw for him.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
2/3 of his midfield got sold and replaced by mostly unproven players. Then the attack signing that was needed to replace Salah last year never came in the form of an experienced player but another kid.
Monchi handed EDF a massive task. 1 week into the season is not what it takes to form a new team. Gasperini wasn't gonna get beat that, even though he rested so many players for EL.

Strootman is so damn average now, he is not what he used to be in 2015. N'Zonzi is upgrade easily

Yes he is. NZonzi also arrived to Roma 1 week ago. Building a new team takes time.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
I get all that, trust me.
I liked our mercato quite a bit. I have zero problems with the pieces of the puzzle. However, if the XI EDF put out for that first half is what he thinks is the solution, then we're in trouble. I hope that was lesson learned.

I actually like going to the Bernabeu right off the bat. Getting the toughest fixture out of the way early is better than it being the last fixture should we manage to mess up in the other games.
I think we drop points away to one of CSKA or Plzen, but not both. At home, we should be ok. I even like our chances against Madrid in our home fixture.

You shouldn't be dropping points at Plazen. Anyway, Roma should qualify without breaking a sweat. Haven't been impressive so far thoughMcLewis wrote:I actually like going to the Bernabeu right off the bat. Lots of "should" in that sentence. "Should" and Roma don't go well together. Nothing is ever a certain thing with this side.

Speaking in the most non-partisan manner; Roma quite frankly are by far the most Unpredictable football club of all the ones I have witnessed, ever since I began watching this sport.

From the whole group you mean? There are 2 other teams you know
If we can wrap up qualification by the away game, that game will be really entertaining.

The fact Rome have a decent football club that takes it colors and inspiration from it's ancient roots is what drew me in. The constant swings between ecstasy and despair are why I stay. I think you need to be a masochist on some level to support this club. Wouldn't have it any other way though.

A deserved loss to Milan today. I'm disappointed, but not at all mad. We were average all game. Milan had zip and bite. Right team won.
Maybe if EDF breaks his other hand, he'll finally see the light and stop playing the 4-3-3. We still don't have the players for it.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Gerson leaves? Scores on his Fiorentina debut.
Bruno Peres leaves? Scores the winner for Sao Paulo.
Nainggolan leaves? Scores on his Inter debut.
Gonalons leaves? Scores immediately for Sevilla.
Strootman leaves? MOTM against Monaco on his Marseille debut.
Defrel leaves? Scores a banger against Napoli.
Just reading the tea leaves here, but this does not reflect well on both Monchi and EDF, regardless of the circumstances around the sales.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
Roma changed too much , and that was for a team who got CL place and UCL semi-final
My Roma fans are not glad for that dismantlement made by Monchi
Then what about Olsen ? He looked like very bad whenever I watched it.
Been an Alisson fan since his first day, but I don't believe my judgement depends on it.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
I've been saying this all summer. Roma did not need to sign a new team like this. Already last summer Monchi went hard with the signings, then this summer he doubled down again.
A team that achieves CL consistently, beat Sarri's Napoli a year ago, and got CL semis doesn't need to be discarded. Salah, Strootman, Nainggolan, Perotti, Alisson is too much (not mentioning players sold that had smaller roles).
This season basically got discarded with all these gambles and high turnover. Roma's ambition got downgraded from competing, to developing a new group of players

Re: The Official Roma Thread
I think that loss to Bologna highlighted the same problem that has plagued nearly every Roma team for the last 15+ years: This team are mental midgets.
Losing that way wasn't down to a lack of fitness, lack of chemistry or the opponent's strength and mentality. It was down to laziness and lethargy. I saw 8 players out there who didn't care about the result. 8 players playing for themselves instead of the shirt. Some of these players were here last season and other are new. Doesn't matter.
I think it should be clear to everyone that this team is better than what we've seen so far. I believe it. Other Romanisti believe it. Neutrals believe it. Yet strangely, the players don't seem to believe it.
Until they step up and take true responsibility (not just platitudes in the media), we'll keep getting performances like this. There is literally nothing EDF can do about that as well.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
EDF might have to go, unfairly. Most Roma players are showing the wrong mentality, this maybe can be fixed by a shake up with a new coach just to turn the page.
I don't know if Conte would take the Roma job, should be their first candidate to approach anyway.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
He's too expensive anyway. There's also Montella, who would likely be more realistic, but perhaps no better than EDF.
If the players have well and truly given up on EDF, something really bad has to have gone down over the summer or into the beginning of the season.

Not gonna hype him in the Youngster's thread yet, but Luca Pellegrini looked the business today. We've been crying out to see this kid get his chance at LB and he did in 5 minutes what Kolarov couldn't do all game. Even assisted him on his goal as well.

Re: The Official Roma Thread
So taking stock of Roma's season so far:
Rough start against the likes of Milan, Madrid and (heh) Bologna.
ritiro done.
Win against Frosinone (they bad), Lazio (it's the derby), Plzen (they bad - Euro edition), and Empoli (we were very lucky) and some of my fellow Romanisti think all is right in the world again. This is exactly the problem with this club and its fans. This is what's called an artificial high. These are what I call "placebo wins". They make everything seem normal when in reality we're still 1 thrashing from a proper team away from another "crisis".
This club has been accused in the past of having a small-club mentality. When we act like this after beating eminently beatable teams I think that accusation is deserved. Stability is great, but it's a just a better-sounding word than "stagnation", which is where we really are.
We have Napoli coming up. I think that's our next measuring stick.
