Is Serie A the Most Competitive League in Europe? 2017-18 Edition
The Premier League has been won by Manchester City
La Liga has been won by Barcelona
The Bundesliga has been won by Bayern Munich
Ligue 1 has been won byNeymar PSG
But Serie A?
It will be won by Juventus, with a small chance for Napoli, Roma or Inter but what a league thus far
I included Milan for reference, if you're viewing the image on a smart phone, Milan's position won't be visible unless you have the iPhone Plus, Samsung Note or Google Pixel XL

yes but it's because the quality is underwhelming across the board rather than a collection of impressive teams

We're not winning it. Just not happening. If it's not Juve, it's Napoli.
As good as we are, we are not better than Juve, Napoli or Inter at this point.
To answer the question though.....yeah it's certainly the most competitive at this point although that seems to be the trend over the last few seasons....and then Juve get it together and pull away from the pack.

Inter, seriously ? We are collapsing, 0 points against Udinese and Sassuolo. Terrible fitness , short roster etc
Of course Juve have already won the Scudetto , it seems just strange that it wasn't done in December

Not at all.
Juve just happened to weaken themselves to provide a more level playing field and thus it has become pseudo-competitive of sorts
For me it's among the worst leagues along with Bundesliga comprising of overhyped mediocre Italian players like Cristante, Jacobelli etc

Pretty much this
No one but Juve are going to win Serie A. This was the case even before the league started. It's just that Juve are half as motivated as they were last season or season before since it's becoming routine to win the league.

Even if Juve is the undisputed champ, the 2-5 positions extremely competitive. Would you disagree?

Yes. 2-5 positions are easily as much or more competitive in PL, La Liga, and Bundesliga

No one cares about 2-5 in Italy bro. All are scrubs.
PL is where the action is at. I apologise on behalf of our shitty coach for not making the PL competitive this year as it always is

Agree, although Antonio Conte has to take some blame too. He is proving once again that he's unable to be successful in the league and CL simultaneously.S wrote:No one cares about 2-5 in Italy bro. All are scrubs.

Re: Is Serie A the Most Competitive League in Europe? 2017-18 Edition
CL places battle is very felt in Italy indeed, more than in UK, because CL is necessary form of survival for clubs (no stadi di proprietà here ) , not entering in CL means downgrade.
But I don't expect a tough fight as it was in this first half of season, real balance of power is coming in. And not optimist about the chance to stay on same level than now

How will the CL battle be felt? When 3 teams (Inter, Roma, Napoli) are competing for 3 spots?
In the PL 5 teams (Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs) are competing for these 3 spots.
In Bundesliga, 6 teams (BVB, Schalke, Leipzig, Gladbach, Leverkusen, Hoffenheim) are competing for 3 spots, with Hertha Berlin probably having better odds to sneak in as well than Lazio in Italy.

Lazio, Sampdoria, Atalanta and Fiorentina have at least equal odds to get in the top 4 than any of the German teams you mention. I really get tired of this crap.

I responded to" No one cares about 2-5 in Italy ".
No , CL place is the priority for so many clubs.
Just Juve talks about winning the Scudetto.
The rest is focused on CL piace because 1 so much gap with Juve 2 it is essential
Exactly the opposite than not caring

Re: Is Serie A the Most Competitive League in Europe? 2017-18 Edition
Its still the only league that isn't already won
I also vehemently disagree, a good team will finish outside of the top 4, more then likely it will be Lazio. So, the top 5 in Serie A is quite good this year
Imagine how crazy this league would be if Milan actually put together a formidable squad
Anyways, I haven't seen anything to suggest it isn't the most competitive league in Europe this eason , doubtful that I will
And lets put some respect on Juventus' name, we are elite and in a small category of elite teams in Europe

Re: Is Serie A the Most Competitive League in Europe? 2017-18 Edition
Me i mostly agree with you Luca.
Maybe Serie A isn't THE MOST competitive league but definitely top 2 with Premier League. Why ? Because this year we have 6 teams that aren't crap, instead of 2 ½ the years before. I don't appreciate the style of football played in England but i can admit their league is very competitive and has always been since i've followed football. In both leagues you have at least one quality club that won't qualify for Champions League, that's my definition of "hard competition".
Funny to see this situation being compared with Bundesliga, a.k.a the league where only 15 points separate the 2nd place from the 17th place. No team in Bundesliga has more wins than draw+losses combined (except Bayern). Just a bunch of squads in shambles neutralizing each other.
Not what i call competitive There is a mediocre parity and only that... the equivalent of the fight for spots 6 to 11 in Serie A but for the whole league.

Serie A is the only league other than the PL I actually enjoy tbh. Probably more (don't really watch much football anymore overall though).
