I think they're still pursuing Lautaro. Another big mistake if they want him to be a lone striker lol

i know Lautaro is a target, he also has 110 millions release clause and he is not a number 9

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
Thats what catalan papers are suggesting (departure of suarez to make way for lautaro). I havent seen us linked to any number 9s except for some youngster Boadu

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
I think if anything the decision to release Suarez is motivated by freeing up the wage bill.
They've driven this club into a bad economic position with 100M+ transfers and insane salaries.

That’s a good point, they need to pay Messi 50 millions net per year, that money needs to come from somewhere

While Suarez is getting old, he's never been quick. I think he could be a great signing for a top team still.

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
You don't get to "terminate" a players contract though without paying him the wages you owe him contractually.
And then on top you have to pay the wages of the player you sign to replace him
So if you want to 'bring down your wage bill', you need to actually sell the players you have

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
From an accounting point of view his transfer has been amortized so they are good on that front.
Terminating a players contract work both ways though, you pay a smaller portion of the player salary for the year and the rest he should recoup with the signing bonus of going free to another club. This is a valid solution for Barca, maybe this season, between what they pay Suarez and their new player there isn’t an immediate saving but starting next year there will.
Obviously if they can sell, they will but that depends if he has a clear and obvious market, and if you want to be patient. I don’t think they have the time to wait for the right offer etc... Barca are pushing the issue here, so there is more of an incentive to agree to mutual termination

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
You can't one-sidedly terminate, but Suarez might agree to a termination - with a paycheck involved in it - if he's got offers on the table from other clubs that he would like to join.
I'm a bit surprised that Koeman wants him gone, though, he's still been good for Barca. It's the midfield and defense that needs attention.

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
The problem with selling Suarez is hes such good friends with Messi and they seemed to have played together forever now, not sure how thats gonna affect Messi's decision about leaving or not. Would wanna keep him
Knowing our board, they will probably do something stupid as usual, just dont mess it up so Messi leaves too lol. for rotation for another year and squeeze the best out of him which Im sure he would happily give, a bit like Eto'o, and then let him go next season, he deserves it.

This is why Barca is in a dire state. Players like Pique, Busquets and Suarez aswell ( to an extent) have been shielded forever because they're Messi's friends. Lets be honest Busquets should have been offloaded 2/3 years ago already, probably same goes for Pique.
Just like they did with Dani Alves, who was Messi's best friend at the time.

There is a difference between being Catalan and being Brazilian in this Barca, it’s pretty obvious

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
This isn't even a sporting decision tbh. The club is broke. Coutinho is returning with his huge wages and obviously no one is taking him, even less so under current Covid situation. Pissing off senior players on big contracts is the only way for this board to salvage the finances a bit. lol Barto would actually be really happy if Messi decided to leave as well. Getting his wages off the books + excuses for no trophies which are unlikely to begin with under Koeman.

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
Coutinho's wages are half of what Suarez earns though
Griezmann's is on crazy wages though, £795,000 per week!! 2x as much as Suarez? I don't know what's the logic here. 100M fee and almost a million euros per week in wages for that scrub? ffs
And lastly, Messi is on £1.2million per week..... Thats like 7 players worth of wages! Alba earns £150,000 and Piqe 250,000 for comparison.
Even Neymar at PSG gets less (£667,000) than Griezmann at Barca lol.

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
I don’t know where you get your numbers but Neymar makes 30 millions euros net per year. Griezmann around 20 millions net. I think Suarez is between 12-14 millions net.
But there is absolutely no chance that Griezmann makes more money than Neymar, he is like the second best paid player in Europe behind Messi
By the way that Suarez money is going to Messi when he renews his deal. 100 mil per tax per season goddamn

They have Suarez at £405,000 and Griezmann at £795,000
I doubt Messi's going to renew, he can leave for free next year and I bet he will

True, I don't know where they got their info from and I was stupid to copy it.
Still, Griezmann earns almost 2x as much as Suarez and I'm not sure why.

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
Leverage, Griezmann was making that much at Atletico and Barto was CERTAIN Griezmann was wreck at Barca. He has been obsessed about recreating a new trident, rather than building a balanced team.

I seriously think we should get him for next 2 years, if possible on loan. He has all the capabilities to be the best back up player for Firmino and who knows he might even end up starting few games for Liverpool. Looking at the current training sessions it seems Shaq is either injured or he is gone in this window. We have no players to provide some quality strength to rest any of the front 3.
In Jan 2019, speaking to German football magazine 11FREUNDE, Suarez said:
"Anyone who has ever played in Liverpool remains connected to the club for a lifetime.
When asked if he would like to have the opportunity to play under Klopp, he added: "Currently we work for two different clubs so that's not an issue for me at the moment.
"But sure every player would like to train under Jurgen Klopp."

Re: What happened to Luis Suarez?
This is from ESPN, I don't know how accurate they are about European football, but anyway:
Are Barca desperate to get rid of his wages or why are they trying so hard to get him out of there? I thought he's still playing to a pretty good standard and scoring goals?
Barcelona Prepared To Bench Luis Suarez If Transfer Not Found
Barcelona are trying to unload Luis Suarez but they're prepared to banish him if they're unable to do so.
Suarez makes approximately €25 million gross per season.
Barcelona are resistant to paying off the entirety of his contract to play for Juventus.
Ronald Koeman will have final say on how to handle the situation if Suarez ends up staying.
