He'll eventually be. That's the point. Once we go into the business end of the season , I expect Costa to start most games. Allegri's fetish over Wingdzukic is holding him back right now.
Wages of €5M instantly makes him the highest paid mid in our team right now. I just don't see him as some depth signing who's coming here to serve as a utility player.

I'm sure he'll be a starter if he deserves to be. As long as Allegri is in charge, I'm a firm believer in that- if only based on his treatment of both Douglas and Dybala this season and even Bernardeschi.
All things considered, we should be happy if Can is a starter and works out as such. That would be a great coup for us
And we do play 50 games per season, everyone sees the field and no one is undroppable
Just this season we have dropped Higuain- our record signing, Dybala- our next record sale and/or superstar, Douglas Costa- our 46M winger on joint second highest wages, took our time with Bernardeschi- our 40M signing

And that's a big problem imo
He is a faster Khedira with less football IQ. Liverpool fans admit to me that he's decent at best, and it seems their management don't count on him at all. Maybe better than current Khedira but in no way better than Khedira on a good day.
For free he truly is a bargain, i'd say it is the only reason why we ever was after him since last summer. As a pillar of the New Juve ? Barely an improvement over what we already have.

I don't know if you're getting my point luca
Yes Dybala and Higuain were benched for a few games but they are still our starters. A few months of rough form doesn't change it. We paid them big wages because they're among our best players.
We are paying that much for Costa because we are banking on him to be a starter
Similarly we are paying that much for Can because our management probably sees a starter material in him. We have been chasing him for years actually.
What Allegri does during the course of the season with his players is a different matter altogether but realistically our wage cap is decided on the quality of players that could be eventual starters.
In other words , I see him as the only notable midfield signing unless we sell a key player in midfield.

I'm getting your point, what I'm relaying is that, yes, based on the wages and the idea of signing a player of his profile is that he is ideally a starter. My point is, no one is safe and every minute is earned at Juventus- as demonstrated by the few situations I outlined.. All I'm really saying is that if he plays great, he'll obviously be a starter and if he doesn't perform, he won't be, I don't find that too far-fetched.
Were also in January and Douglas still isn't a sure fire starter. Dybala was also dropped for some of our biggest matches. That's my only point, if the wages were 3.5M, he could still be a sure starter, or not be, only his play dictates that.
I will never disagree that were banking on players like Douglas/Bernardeschi to be starters, of course that is the case. I just mean that Can's wages don't guarantee much to me, we won't be trapped if he isn't playing well.
@warrior
Liverpool and Juventus play quite differently, its not possible to ascertain how a player will do in one team based on how they did in another team. There's numerous examples of this being the case. Naturally, I'm inclined to see how he plays with Juve and not really care how he did at Liverpool. Its an extremely low risk move for us

This would be the "playing with fire" scenario
We don't know about the financial state of Juventus but i bet my shoes we have at least 70 m to spend next summer (Costa costs ~40 but it is covered by Sandro's eventual sale)
Khedira is bound to leave, we have a 25 m discount by signing Emre Can for free. It's only logical to pay him a high salary mostly to ensure we get a "cheap" replacement for Big Sam.

Re: - | Transfer Talk | Rumors | News | -
But do you realistically see another notable midfield signing ? (if you exclude depth signings like Cristante)
That's my whole point. Unless we sell a starter from our midfield, I don't expect another big midfield signing. Which brings me to the point that SMS is probably seen as an alternative than a priority. Can with that kind of wages is obviously a 'big midfield signing to me.
Let's see what happens.

Its January 6, 2018
Are you ruling out another notable midfield signing for the 2018-19 season?
We really have no clue how the team will look next season in a lot of ways. Its just too early. We can obviously analyze these moves on these types of levels, its just not going to be a definitive line of thinking because of the timing.
I did say that I wouldn't be surprised that we sign Can instead of Sergej based on the former being free with a good profile, and the other commanding a massive cost- maybe even insurmountable for us because of the relationship with Lotito.
But the real market is obviously in June

Not going for Sergej would be a huge mistake. Signing Emre Can has no impact (negative or positive) on this situation, it was gonna happen anyway.
We have dozens of millions to spend, and very few "B+ at worst" midfelders available on the market. The solution is right there in our own backyard.

If this seasons Sandro is what we can expect from him going forward, good riddance. He's regressed into a typical Brazilian full back that is piss poor defensively and all about the offence. I don't know if it's personal problems or he just wants to move but either way even though I loathe how easily we sell players, he's a left back that's defensively a liability right now and can go if he can't motivate himself to do what he did last season.

I would say we won't sign Sergej as I think now. As Luca says though, its January and we have no clue how things will evolve.
Who would have thought that we would sign Pjanic and Higuain that summer?

We'll see how it goes. It concerns me how pessimistic some of our fanbase is over this team

Tbf unless we make a big sale it's very likely we have another Summer of buying players we all think are back up options only for us to cheapskate every major player we bid for, and we'll end up getting Can, Spinazzola, Caldara, Cristante and calling it a day.
We were uncomfortable spending anything over 40M a few years ago unless we made a big sale. If the bar for World class young players has moved well past the 100M mark, we're not going to be getting any ready made star players without sales in the next decade

This is more realistic than pessimistic
We don't make big signings without big sales
We'll be committing €46M for Costa for our summer window already

Re: - | Transfer Talk | Rumors | News | -
A few years ago we were still repairing our Calciopoli damage
This is what I mean, why so pessimistic? We spent a combined 86M on Bernardeschi and Douglas Costa this passed summer despite already having a team one game away from the treble. This investment didn't come at the expense of an existing attacking player like Dybala, like it would have in the past and yet we still invested heavily. A few years ago if we made these signings, you guys would be wetting your pants with excitement- were not that far removed from having Giaccherini and Pepe as vital players, I can still vividly remember those days.
So, what if Can, Spinazzola, Caldara and Cristante are our only signings and we retain Dybala and Sandro while moving Lichtsteiner, Khedira and not exercising the option on Howedes, is this really so bad? I just don't get it. We've been as good as anyone on the market, all while not tarnishing our results.
Spending 150M on players like Dembele and Coutinho is not going to be our thing, nor should it be. There's quality all over the market, Juve is great and finding those discards or getting their first as shown with 99% of our signings. Of course there's always room for improvement, but so long as were investing and getting results, I don't see the issue- seems like I'm more or less alone, which I'm good with

^I don't think anyone is arguing that. I thought we were just talking about if we will sign a Sergej type or not.
I love our team. If just Can and the Atalanta boys come it will still be great.

The reason why I say I dont think we'll get him is because if EPL/PSG money gets involved then Tare will certainly not prioritize selling him to us. The only way is if Sergej chooses us and pushes for it, like Bernardeschi.
The biggest chance we have imo is the fact that he says he is happy and wants to stay in Serie A. Cairo might have done us a solid when he signed Vanja. Sergej hangs out in Torino to visit him and said how its important to be in Serie A cause of being with his brother.

Turns out we also need a 2nd keeper
The Milinkovic-Savic brotherhood seems far more likeable than Milang's Donnarummas.

Re: - | Transfer Talk | Rumors | News | -
Our team is fully complete. All we need is a good CM and a RB (might even adapt Cuadrado to play there)
Can is not any WC midfielder but I think with his charasteristics he'll fit better in Serie A.He'll be a improvement over current Khedira anyway.
We should have bought Sergej last year but it's pointless spending anything more than 60m on him.
He can go whenever he or Lotito likes, there are other CM options that will do good here after recieving some Juve treatment.
So basically all we need to spend is around 40m on a good midfielder (and sell Khedira & Sturaro)
Sandro money can fund for his replacement (Wendell,Guerreiro,Grimaldo,Ghoulam) and leave us with some money to buy a RB too.
